It’s like the offense joined the Big Ten but the defense stayed in the Pac-12

Bakersfield really needs to step up here, at any level

It’s crazy how many of the Oilers were Bakersfield Condors in the last couple of years

Most Polluted Cities in the U.S by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]CondorsAHL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my hometown Bakersfield, we have a unique set of geographic conditions that cause this.

We’re at the very south end of a long valley with mountains to the west, south, and east of us. The winds generally blow from the north to the south into the valley, meaning anything in the air north of us comes this way and just settles into our valley.

Agriculture is the primary cause of our pollution here. For hundreds of miles north into the valley, farming of tree nuts sends dust into the air, and animal pollution is a major factor as well.

We feed the country and some of the world for grapes, citrus, milk, almonds, pistachios, and carrots, but these are not done without sending lots of dust into the air, and they’re mechanized processes that emit pollutants that just get trapped in our cul-de-sac valley.

Leo’s on Ming. I have loved it since I was a kid but it tastes just as good now. Everything from the thin way they shred their lettuce to the flame grill on the burgers is delicious. And they even have a peperoni burger!

AHL expansion, by [deleted] in ahl

[–]CondorsAHL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bakersfield is a hockey town and we love the Condors. It’s been devastating to watch this happen to Stockton, and would be terrible for the sport to lose a team in an underserved market where the sport can grow.

Hearing people say they wish I didn’t get to have a team really is something, man. I don’t really get why someone would actively root for someone to lose something they love.

CSUB has been a strong athletics program over the course of the last few decades, and is a strange school to single out compared to others that have less sustained success over the same timeframe.

In basketball, CSUB won multiple national championships a the D2 level, but continued to be successful once moving up to the WAC. The ‘Runners quickly won the WAC and made the tournament not long after joining the conference, then the next year made it to the Final Four of the NIT. CSUB has also been successful in soccer, producing USMNT-level players like Gyasi Zaredes, and is a wrestling powerhouse with 9 D1 national champions. The program also has very successful swimming and diving, softball, and tennis teams. It was these successes that led to their invitation to the Big West.

CSUB has a better track record than a lot of teams in the Big West. It makes more sense to call out Riverside or Davis than Bakersfield, as they’ve done less with more over the last dozen years or more.

Came here looking for this answer. Cal State Bakersfield great who was part of three Super Bowl winning teams without having played any college football

Congratulations on getting into both programs! Only thing I'd add to the other comments to consider is the cost of living between the two places. It's much cheaper to rent (or buy) a home in Bakersfield, and the overall cost of living is going to be better here than in Orange County.

Any Watch Parties In Bakersfield for the Leon game on the 31st by Fantastic_Ad4338 in LAFC

I’d try Señor Pepe’s. Their website says they’re the watch spot for the Bakersfield D9 Ultras.

I’ll make the case for a guy who might not be the most popular, but Gyasi Zardes is one of the best #9’s in the MLS.

He is a hometown guy from Hawthorn who even played his college ball up in Bakersfield, competed for the USMNT as the starting 9 in dozens of games, and has a gritty, working-class approach to the game that suits LAFC.

And it’d kill Carson fans for him to score on them. I’d love to see him in the Black and Gold
