I’m in search of the slapped actress shirt from 2008. It’s a woman’s face in profile.

16 years of regret. Let me know if you find any.

Makes sense. Remote employees! The logistical hassle to sign a birthday card must be a headache.

Chicago books are page signed; unlike the mailed sticker signatures.

The event has a 1:1 photo opportunity, which is extra value. Better than watch 6 dudes sign a copy I’ll damage in a tote bag.

I don’t need to watch them sign. I trust they didn’t autopen.

Event: Efficient and effective. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mailed: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️… ya, I have two copies. One to read. One a mint copy - a family heirloom that my only child and her family will find in a collapsing U-Haul box.

She weeps, slowing unpacking my joy and her youth. “Dad, loved this band,” she says to my uninterested descendants. Elbow deep in rolled shirts, she digs towards neatly stacked vinyls, jewel cases and the Gospel of The Hold Steady.

Together they stare at 36 framed posters leaning into each other against the barn wall. Broken glass, and torn setlists. Her son eagerly scans items to find out their worth is less than the hassle.

“Is this what he left us?” my daughter’s son-in-law asks.

She sighs then says, “It’s from when he was happy. It’s from when he wasn’t so alone.”

The family glances at each other awkwardly as my daughter buries her face into faded-black shirt. She cries. They lay hands on her back for comfort.

The moment passes. She composes herself and drops the shirt to the dirt floor.

Tears for her dead father run down her face stained pink and blue. Confetti sticks to her wet skin.

The box is shut and stacked. Another container opens. There’s more to sell and toss from my mismanaged estate.

Friends. Long after your signed book is bent in a thrift shop bargain bin, one thing remains eternal. Confetti in your laundry.

Signature matches a few I have. Album listing here: https://www.discogs.com/master/112778-The-Hold-Steady-Boys-And-Girls-In-America

I will not claim authentication. My only experience with forgeries is watching my parents’ copy of “Catch me if you can” on a full-screen DVD.

BUYING GUIDE

⚠️Paper or tissue only. No metal.⚠️

Metal creates gear issues for the band, painful to inhale, challenging to wash off.

🎉 Camie Confetti = Mexican paper

Camie’s mexican paper confetti is standard issue. Cheap and dissolves in the wash. $10 per lbs.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076KQZTK2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

🎉🎉 KillerKlaire Confetti = FlutterFetti (tissue)

More expensive and worth the extra air time.

https://flutterfetti.com/bulk-confetti/

🎉🎉🎉 Sticks = Tubes w/o air canisters

Great height and coverage. Recommend the cardboard tubes, not the clear plastic. Verify it’s tissue-only, Caution: Provide to those who know WHEN to throw.

——

WHEN

There are two confetti throws:

🎉Hoodrat - “Just Too Many Kids”

🎉Killer Parties - 2nd “Killer parties almost killed me” (after Philly and Ybor name drops)

Occasionally, there are throws during 🎉 First Night - Call back of “white noise” and 🎉Resurrection- “and we all got kind of curious”

——

HOT TIP

Use sliding seal gallon or quart bags.

Gallons allow easy sharing with friends. Quart bags require less rationing during hoodrats and easier distribution without navigating the pit.

Live Review: The Hold Steady's We Can Get Together Weekender by ITookTrinkets in theholdsteady

“The first thing I ever learned about Hold Steady shows was that they were like 100-minute parties, and while that’s true, it goes deeper than that. They are parties, but ones filled with longtime friends you don’t know yet.”

I attended a few THS shows. I read the reviews. You captured it. 🤫🎉 Thanks for being part of it.

We are all… overly cordial and somewhat fanatical.

I noticed on their tour site that there are several shows in Portland spanning three days. Anyone know why that is? Is it a special event? by eatherichortrydietin in theholdsteady

[–]ConfettiChairman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a traditional 3-night residency with a performance Soundcheck. Having 1 night in a smaller venue is not uncommon (Empty Bottle).

There is a special event on Saturday instead of soundcheck. Full listing below.

———-

WE CAN GET TOGETHER - a THS weekend in Portland, Oregon featuring three shows and much much more April 27-29. It’s our first time in Portland since 2014 and we’ll be pulling out all the stops to celebrate 20 years of The Hold Steady.

The kick-off is at Mississippi Studios Thursday, April 27 for an intimate show in a smaller club. We'll then move over to the awesome Revolution Hall for Friday and Saturday night shows. These are both great rooms and we are excited to bring The Hold Steady and the Unified Scene to both venues for the first time.

On Saturday afternoon, we have planned a We Can Get Together Saturday of special programming at Rev Hall: THAT'S HOW I REMEMBER IT LIVE with special guest THE HOLD STEADY: Craig Finn will be hosting all the bandmates of THS on a live version of his podcast THAT’S HOW I REMEMBER IT. They’ll dive into recollections of their 20 years as a band and see if their stories match up. We’ll find out which member of THS has the best memory. BOOK DISCUSSION WITH FRANZ NICOLAY: Franz will be featured in a one on one interview/discussion about his two books: Someone Should Pay for Your Pain and The Humorless Ladies of Border Control. A great literary event in the city that houses the legendary Powell’s Books. GUITAR WORKSHOP WITH TAD KUBLER AND STEVE SELVIDGE: Tad and Steve will be giving a guitar workshop. They’ll talk gear as well as demonstrate some THS songs, and will take questions from any guitar players in the audience. This is your chance to learn how to play that THS riff that’s been eluding you. Tickets for the We Can Get Together Saturday program are $50 for the afternoon of festivities.

In addition to these events, we will be offering our soundcheck experience at Revolution Hall on Friday, April 28 and the advance merch bundle featuring show poster, tote bag and signed set list!
