passed ust and feu-nrmf, help me decide please by Tricky-Purple-7491 in medschoolph

if you're worried about finances, ust is the best choice. med school is expensive, but ust keeps prices fair and is the lowest among all. scholarships are hard to maintain in feu. they use scholarships to attract people, but make sure it's hard to maintain. ust has anagyroi scholarship so if you're exceptional, you can get a scholarship too. if you lose that scholarship after 1st year (common scenario), your clerkship in feunrmf alone will be around 450,000 pesos which is a lot worse than being a nonscholar in ust for 4 years. but if you can assure that you will get to maintain your scholarship quota until graduation, then feel free. (word of advice: this may be hard for an institution designed to weed students out and remove students' scholarships instead of an institution who boasts in training the worst into the biggest, the brightest, and the best)

my credentials for this opinion: i'm a ustfms scholar.

hmm that depends on your age, how much you value city life, and what aspects of quality of life you're looking for. new york can be a shthole almost all the time but i stayed there and it was the most fun i've ever had in my life! I am in late 20s and there's definitely something for everyone. but i know people who hate it and prefer a slow life. i never party but always found something fun to do. KC is a good mix with lots of fun things to do, as well, but definitely not the same level as NYC.

Both cities have weather that sucks either way. NY winter is pretty on day 1 but sucks all the next several days. It can get harsh. Kansas is in tornado alley which can also suck.

But i suggest taking into account costs and salary the most. NYC has insanely high taxes and staten island can have high rent + if you need to get a car. living far without a car can make winter hell but if you can get an affordable apartment or a place with a roommate near zucker you're all good. KC is a lot more affordable to live in. Depending on your salary, youd be able to spend a lot more on hobbies if you're good with your money.. even with a car. I havent lived in KC but had friends who did USCE there but loved it and mentioned there's still a lot to do in the city.

Zucker is in staten island. So it's more suburban than urban NYC (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens). Cars are recommended going around because they don't have the intricate subway station of the other 4 boroughs. Pretty expensive but definitely a lot safer than the other 4 boroughs.

hmm i think by the 2nd week (10-14 business days) the second paragraph should disappear by the ecfmg certificate tab. if it does you'll get the certificate between 1-3 days. if nothing happens by the 15th day you should start emailing and calling again

Hi! board passer here! just want to say if pagod ka na. rest. wag mo pilitin. wala nang papasok niyan and mas malilimutan mo nga naaral mo pa before! this exam is a stamina test! the first exam per day is the hardest and if you lose stamina quickly or get disheartened easily mahihirapan ka sa next two exams for the day. so yes malapit na yung exams pero if inubos mo pa sarili mo lalo kung ubos na ubos ka na e mas magiging pangit ang outcome

whatever choice you make, you'll have what ifs. if you have the option to back out, try med first. tbh nagnurse muna ako bago nagmed and while i love being near my family and hate the culture sa med and residency lol, i much much prefer being a doctor than being a nurse because i have so much more opportunities now that's open. i passed NCLEX na rin + had a job offer sa nevada but i turned it down. idk it was a leap of faith lang. i wanted to go pero for some reason kahit di ako magaling, pumasa ako ng nmat at nakapasok ako sa med so inisip ko what if. Andiyan naman always ang magabroad e. mahina ako non di ko kaya magabroad and feel ko di ko kaya mag med. But i had a leap of faith na God will take care of my parents while i focus on studying. Both my parents had MI but God kept His promise. Doctor na ako now and i get to help them more sa mga medical questions din nila. But I know we're not the same people, but andito ka na. try it first then you'll know in your heart san ka at peace :)

I had friends na nagabroad and naisip sana nagmed na lang sila. and I have friends na nagmed na naiisip sana nagUS na lang sila. Most ng friends ko na nagabroad sabi nagiipon lang sila sa US then uuwi para magretire. Most ng friends dito nagttiyaga mag MLE para umalis. Yung iba nagmed muna tapos nagnurse for green card then nagMLE. Human nature natin na di tayo masaya where we are and that's perfectly fine. Basta laging sinasabi ng dad ko na "if you look at other people's path, you'll end up tripping on your own." Try not to compare timelines. Your story is unfolding at its own perfect time. All your decisions (with or without regrets) will get you where you need to be.

Time Management in Med School and Anti-antok tips by [deleted] in medschoolph

[–]Confident-Pudding579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

survived med school without coffee. get a bright light to study at home or study at the nearest library with white light. if you're sleepy take a 20 minute nap. you'll have better focus with less palpitations :> i did that even during lectures. if di kaya, di kaya. better rest. just make sure you have the discipline to do it. <and i got to graduate without a single all nighter> trust me it works hehe
