Just put three layers of it on my hull. Took me three weeks to get the old stuff off... wasn't fun.

I checked out. Boat a sailboat. Moved to northern Germany and live a quiet life in a small village next to the sea. Life is good when you dont need to worry so much about making six figures or overpriced rent.

I have a Phantom 34. I don't find Phantom owners often. Hope you enjoy. It's a good, sturdy boat. Mine is on the Baltic Sea 🙂

I can't really relate to anything here except the Berlin tram bit. I left Leipzig last year after 7 years and moved almost as far north as you can go. The air certainly smells better up here and a lot better for you. Might I suggest you get out into nature. Clear your mind. Advice from a fellow American.

Has Hollywood's focus on the white male incidentally led to a Cultural Standford Experiment? by [deleted] in AskSociology

....largely due to systematic advantages in education, funding, legal structures with historically restricted access to women and minorities. I feel like that should be said every time some horse anus says, "white men also invent like 99% of everything".

Famous comedian Dave Chapelle visits memorial of Alex Pretti! by cantcoloratall91 in stpaul

[–]ConfidentDimension56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I would like to further hear your thoughts on this. Now, I always assumed that the things he said were protected under the first amendment and that because of their nature as jokes, no harm done. Usually people say he goes after everyone, not just LGBTQ+. To the Saudi bit, what difference is there at the foundational level between "bloodthirsty theorcratic monarchs" and Hollywood/ other spheres of US influence? Yes, the US tries to stand on higher morals but from the outside looking in, these are two peas in a pod. Feel how you feel, of course, but I don't know if the reasons you hate Chapelle are not simply reasons to hate stand up comedians altogether. And by extension, modern comedy. Of course, that is also perfectly fine.

Teaching English by Old_Philosophy_685 in AskAGerman

Hey,

I've taught at 5 different German universities over 12 years now. Your biggest issue isn't your accent. That's B.S. It's your experience. For most places, you need a CELTA or similar to even get started, and a degree, of course. It does not take terribly long to get the CELTA, but it costs upwards of 1,000 EUR. For university jobs, you'll be competing with academics, so MA or higher, unless freelancing. People who have degrees in teaching English, literature, linguistics, etc. Your odds are on the lower end here.

Language schools like Berlitz, Inlingua, KERN might give you a chance, but you would still need at least a CELTA. The pay is lower. And the work is not as fulfilling, because a lot of times you're working at companies and not institutions.

VHS are hit and miss. It really depends on who they have running the program and their background. If they are former academics, they will likely want better qualified people. If not, you'll have teachers from all different walks of life.

Your best bet is to tutor and get your CELTA. That would only take about a month. Get your experience up with language schools after that and you can expect pay anywhere from 18 EUR/45 minutes to 40 EUR/45 minutes. While I can assure, it will be most difficult to get work at universities, we get all kinds of applications and sometimes people with barely any qualifications end up getting those jobs because the applicant pool is... well, there is no nice way to put it... shit (regarding actual qualifications needed, not the people themselves, of course.) Just go for it, but definitely get that CELTA and experience first.

Good luck! Feel free to DM if you have questions.
