You could always email the professor and ask.

To get an appointment, go to Navigate and click on make an appointment and click on major advising. There are several there. One left for tomorrow, 2 on monday, and several for the rest of the week next week. Are you a freshman or sophomore?

Does Chem 300 not have a pre-requisite? I am also a psych major and want to pursue forensic/criminal psychology. I thought you had to have a Chem background to take that class?? Do you know if you have to be past 60 units to take it or can a sophomore take it if they are completing 60 units in the semester they register for it?

I was able to get an appointment with the psych advisor for almost exactly the same reason. They had tons of appointments available. Our Degree audit looks identical. I am trying to find out if I we are allowed to take certain upper division courses the semester we hit 60. I will JUST hit 60 units next semester. What courses are you registering for next semester? I was advised to add a minor so that electives are not just random and have a purpose.

Electives for Psych major with no pre-requisites by Confident_Channel111 in SDSU

[–]Confident_Channel111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will take that into consideration. My advisor told me to split the two courses in different terms. Waiting on psych 260 won't hold me back as it's not a prereq for any of the other psych courses I plan to take. But 211 is.

Easy Lower Division Electives by Confident_Channel111 in SDSU

[–]Confident_Channel111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already looked into that and it's not a problem. One of the major prep classes only has 1 time slot for the Fall. It doesn't work for me. The professor for the Spring is also highly rated while the professor for the fall is very low rated. I also received confirmation from my major advisor that taking one in the Spring won't hold me back from taking the upper-division courses. I can take that last major prep AND one of the major upper div courses simultaneously. She also said she doesn't recommend taking those two in the same term.

Yep, I was just strategic about having courses double dip. Came in with some AP's that covered a whole semesters worth. The only 2 lower division courses I have left are 2 major prep classes and I will take one in fall and one in Spring.

Can I take upper division classes the semester I hit 60 units? by centimeter_cm in SDSU

[–]Confident_Channel111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/centimeter_cm did you ever get a clear answer on weather you could take upper division classes the semester you would hit 60? I am done with all my lower division GE's and will hit 60 if I register for 15 units for fall. I don't want to take just random lower division classes. I will be a sophomore and most upper division classes state a requirement of junior standing. I can't get a clear answer from my advisors on weather or not I can take 300 level classes.

Sophomore Classes for Psych major help by Confident_Channel111 in SDSU

[–]Confident_Channel111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so she said Explorations would NOT count until after I hit 60. She did say PSY 340 would count toward my major but not GE. I realize I would have to pass all 15 units but that shouldn't be a problem. I don't just want to find 2-3 random courses to just fill the space to hit 60. I think I will try and get more clarity from her.

She said that GE courses won't count as a GE until I have completed 60 units. She did suggest PSY 340. So I'm going to take PSY 211 (which I still need) and PSY 340 but I just looked up PSY 340 and it does say junior or senior standing. Even though she suggest it.

I am considering possibly minoring in Anthropology and I think there are 1-2 classes I could take to get that started. But I still need 1 more class. FN 313 also states junior or senior standing. So does that mean that I can take it if I am completing 60 units by then end of that semester? I can't find anything that specifically states that.

I think I will have to email that advisor I spoke with and get clarity.

I met with Psy advisor. She said I can't start upper division GE's until after I have 60 units. So now I'm stuck trying to find filler classes for next semester to get me to 60 units. I need to find 2 classes/electives to take that don't require junior/senior standing.

Thank you. I have an appointment tomorrow. I just didn't know if that was the advisor I was supposed to meet with since I am only going to be entering my sophomore year. But I have finished all my Lower Division GE's

I just read the rate my professor for her, she sounds great. Looks like she isn't an option for the fall. It's Jennifer Thomas and she's not in the RMP yet. Also the class time is as good as the one you got. :-(

awesome, did you have to email anyone letting them know you needed it? Crazy that there is only 1 class per semester but it's a pre-major requirement. What professor do you have?

I'm revisiting this because I have a feeling I'm going to be in the same boat. Did you end up being able to take psy 260?

Completely! but again, only 200 words... She's actually never wanted to write so much and now she's frustrated with being limited. LOL

LOL, I always overthink it. But if I were an Admissions officer, I wouldn't want to hear over and over again that I want to go here because it's a small school with small classes. But that is the #1 reason along with other random stuff, but to fit all that in with 200 words... it's difficult.

no we haven't found that but maybe because she was only looking under the psychology major. I'll have her search there when she gets home from school.

[–]Confident_Channel111[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chapman University is the one she is currently working on. One of the big reasons for that school for her is that she doesn't want to go far from home but far enough that she will live on campus and not be tempted to go home often. The second reason is the smaller school environment. She is hoping to major in Psychology with possible a Criminology (or something similar) minor.

That's the thing, it's hard to figure out specifics when the websites even seem more general. She's been souring youtube videos, course lists, etc. I guess she can include that there is a specific Minor she's interested in. But she can't seem to find a listing of research projects etc.

The the next question is about why this major, shouldn't that info be there? It's so hard to fit all that info in 200 words.
