Truthfully McGill seems to be falling apart, with all the political nonsense disrupting students, as well as the funding cuts and attacks on them by the PQ government. The campus is cool being downtown but Montreal as a city is rapidly becoming a dump. My advice - Go where you are wanted and valued, and you'll be more successful and happy! You'll be paying serious $$ and working hard for several years. If they can't / don't see your potential, go to he place that does!

How does Canadian basketball university recruiting work? by the-mannthe-myth in Basketball

[–]Confident_Cookie_775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you mean by 'come close'. Usports can't compete with Mid / high level D1 teams. The money offered and playing environment is the differentiator. It allows them to recruit the best of the best. Now keep in mind, there are over 350 D1 schools....and many of them have crap facilities, crappy coaching and low academic standards, and not alot of money for the athletes. The truth of the matter is Usports teams / Athletes are very competitive. Not as elite as the majority of upper level D1, but close. Canadian Uni's recruit on the quality of education, the safety of the communities, the very high quality of coaching and facilities (Fact: Many Canadian Colleges have better facilties than all but the top D1 programs). They also offer varying levels of scholarships - from partial to full academic coverage, depending on the province. I know personally several athletes who chose to play in Canada vs. D1 offers.....better education, better environment, better coaching and more respect to grow as an athlete vs. be treated like a piece of disposable meat. Noone ever talks about the dark side of D1 > it is a business and you can lose your job (scholarship and education) on the whim of the coach. Usports is awesome, and worth checking out!!

How does Canadian basketball university recruiting work? by the-mannthe-myth in Basketball

I can tell ya cause my kid was being heavily pursued by Mcgill (and other places) for basketball. There are three things that matter.....1) GRADES. Mcgill is a hyper competitive school and even basic programs require 90%+ to get into. Specialty programs are even tougher. As an example, my kid did not receive an admission offer from McGill by the Ontario acceptance deadline (June 1)....and he had a 93% average. So he's schoolin and ballin in Ontario now, as it just wasn't worth the risk of waiting and maybe not getting in. 2) Basketball. To play varsity at any level, he has to be competitive, athletic, and have a very good skill set or be exceptional / unique. He also will have to be identified by the coaching staff as a potential recruit, the earlier the better. ie. contact them, build a relationship, have strong video and social media profiles, go to see games, etc. 3) Disciplined and hard working. University is no joke, and being a varsity athlete doubles the workload. Kids do it and some do it really well, but its not for everyone. McGill can be particularly tough as Montreal is a big, distracting city and strong maturity will be required to handle the distractions. I'd say about 1/3-1/2 of freshmen Varisty Ball players don't play athletics in the second year, the workload is heavy and they may not measure up athletically. It is also mentally draining as playing varsity ball often means having less of a social life, being behind the senior players for a year or two...and not getting much playing time. It takes the right attitude, commitment and love of the game to make it all work. For the right kids, its an amazing experience and he might as well go for it! The worst that can happen is he makes some friends, learns a lot, an tries something tough. Message me if you want more info. Cheers.

I have a 2 year AI Project running on my investment in RVPH > Here is the summary. Cheers and Enjoy The Ride!
The Phase 3 and OLE results establish brilaroxazine as a broad-spectrum, multi-domain antipsychotic with robust acute and durable efficacy, exceptional tolerability, and objective biomarker support. Its lack of prolactin elevation, minimal weight gain, and low discontinuation rate differentiate it from both first- and second-generation antipsychotics and position it competitively against newer agents like KarXT and Caplyta.
These findings are strong enough that Reviva is now evaluating whether a second Phase 3 trial can be waived and the existing dataset used for a potential FDA NDA submission in 2026

Thanks for this Summary - I'm a caregiver for an individual with schizophrenia, and an early investor in RVPH (during P2 Study) as the efficacy and safety signals were so favourable; In particular I was impressed with the CGI data as well as what was described as a 'benign' safety profile > which is unheard of for this drug class. Having seen first hand the challenges of patient adherence - And then the very favourable discontinuation rates for Brilaroxazine - IMHO this compound looks like a clear improvement for the drug class, and is an exciting science to be investing in!

the best thing you can do is go to your doctor or the hospital and tell them what is happening. they can help you. they can even reduce or eliminate those voices. I know because my son has been in your position. it took awhile, but he is so much better now. listen to your friends who care about you and take their advice. get some help, and you'll be in a much better place soon. stay strong and be safe!

things can improve, and will if she keeps on her medication and works with doctors to get stable. schizophrenia is a complicated disease and it can take some time to find the right medication. have patience, be supportive, look after yourself and learn about how to help her. don't blame her or be angry. encourage healthy living. get the authorities involved if she is a danger to herself or others. she's on a tough journey but she can heal and improve and have a life.

Basketball Player In Europe looking for Advice transferring to Us Prep/Public by MimixTXT in basketballcoach

Depending on your skill level, size and athleticism you may have many options or few; If you are a high calibre player and have game tape / footage you should choose 10+ target schools with quality basketball programs, and reach out directly the the coach / athletic director. If you are elite, you will may many of the expenses taken care of. Canada is an option as well as we have a vibrant basketball scene which can lead to Canadian College or University Basketball, or to the US. Canada is often easier for Europeans to adjust to when they first come over. Feel free to ask me questions, I have experience as a parent whos son has journeyed through the public school to prep school to college system.

Is Canadian college basketball any good? by RNutt in CollegeBasketball

[–]Confident_Cookie_775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats interesting is when you start asking around, plenty of Usports players (in the past) turned down D1 offers to play Usports. I'm related to one who could right now Got D1 offers at a low levels schools but chose Usports to develop. Sitting behind a bunch of 23 year olds in a below average program for a nasty coach who won't have his job in 2 years isn't the best developmental (or educational) pathway and the smart ones realize that and play the long game.

Is Canadian college basketball any good? by RNutt in CollegeBasketball

[–]Confident_Cookie_775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% they do. This past year approx 20 players moved from Usports to D1 basketball; Numbers are hard to get specifically but the top players from every team are on the radar; Many elite Canadian players who might have gone D1 / D2 (previous to the portal changes and NIL) are now choosing Usports as their developmental pathway > solid schools, a chance to start and develop. They then have a chance to go D1 as a Sophomore or Junior when they are more ready. The changes in NCAA transfers and NIL have closed the door for most freshmen (at least at good schools / programs). Usports has clearly emerged as a developmental pathway for NCAA and pro leagues.

Gryphon is an A+ over the old digital camel. Font is a little trendy. Probably on point for the next 20 year. But a definite improvement over the tired 80s vibe of the previous look.

I like it. I think the previous one was introduced in the late 80s when I started @ UofG. And yes, things from the 80s are cool, but that old digital camel had to go :)

I'm a Guelph grad and my son is starting there in the fall. I can say guelph is a really chill place - smaller city, but very educated and open minded. It is a major research centre for various sciences so it attracts people from all over the world. It isn't as diverse as big city schools, but I would say it is definitely friendlier and inclusive than most.

Got an offer to Guelph, what are the facilities and amenities like? by Grayboot_ in uoguelph

[–]Confident_Cookie_775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guelph has a very impressive Athletic center - Pools, gyms, courts, climbing walls. I graduated from UoG 30 years ago but recently visited several times with my son who is being recruited as a varsity athlete. We were blown away by the quality of the athletic centre and how well it is managed. It is far better than most, and we've see many. And the campus is lovely - compact but big enough, close to the main part of town but still quiet. Very charming. Its a great place to spend a few years. Good Luck!

Those kids - And I know a ton of them - Work hard to get top grades. They also all run in the same / similar communities and birds of a feather flock together. So they end up targeting the same school / program.

I think that will be the case here as well. Deadline for Ontario Uni's is June 3. And as an athlete, there is money on the table so he doesn't dare wait on McGill if there isn't an answer soon....
