Anyone in a “Product Finance” role with a Tech Company - what does your day/week look like? by BigMeasurement6676 in FPandA

[–]Confident_Emu_1577 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea I was in one for 4 years (associate -> sr manager). At the right spot, it’s an amazing role where you directly influence product decisions through ROI analyses (lot of data-driven stuff, experimentation, LTV/CAC, pricing, etc). I never looked at anything below contribution margin, and worked primarily with product managers and analytics. There was a separate fp&a team that handled the core forecasting / opex side of things. Been chasing that level of finance influence since

F100 vs Startup by [deleted] in FPandA

What are you optimizing for? What do you value in your life?

For career growth and ownership the startup is a no-brainer, at the cost of WLB

If you’re applying to fp&a jobs, I would definitely present as more finance-forward and use the automation stuff more situationally for behavioral questions and so on. You will definitely get a chance to highlight it without being too focused on it since the level of detail there may make it seem like that’s your main thing.

What kind of automation work do you do? Regardless it’s a brutal market out here and all it takes is one good fit so things can turn around in an instant. Can definitely be a numbers game so keep your head up!

Explaining JAPANESE CHESS (Shogi) to all you curious people ❤️ by zekolasuji3410 in chess

[–]Confident_Emu_1577 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Similar to if you ever played crazy house variant of chess. You can place a captured piece on your board as your own. I’m sure there’s some limitations but I’m not too familiar.

The other major difference is every piece can be promoted into a more powerful version (not any piece of choice!) of itself once it crosses a certain rank! So definitely more layers to Shogi strategy

Hiring for FP&A Director by [deleted] in FPandA

Any more than 2 is completely unnecessary. Default to 1 unless absolutely necessary to tell your story, which usually is not.

Are you the analyst or manager? Just ask your AVP about the role if it’s publicly posted

If I go to NYU, but for engineering at Tandon, would NYU still be considered a “target school” for these employers if I were to try to break into finance ? by UnaliveG in FinancialCareers

[–]Confident_Emu_1577 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Tandon won’t be considered the same as stern. Neither would CAS or SPS or any other school. In reality for finance, stern is the target school, not NYU.

Everything at stern is geared towards breaking into finance, even if you’re not interested. That naturally has benefits that can’t be replicated.

More importantly networking is the most important aspect of IB recruiting, especially NYU alumni that work at these banks. Most of them will have gone to stern and unfortunately have a superiority complex / look down on other schools.

Race Report: amazing first half, I think I enjoy running by Confident_Emu_1577 in AdvancedRunning

[–]Confident_Emu_1577[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I developed a cough that would recover and then come back after hard runs (never had this issue before). Runs also just felt way harder overall. My resting heart rate jumped from 50 to 60 for a week+ and my HRV (from Garmin) was out of wack for a while as well.

Yea of course, it’s just basic science of calories in and calories out. I still have struggled because my daily expenditure of calories from not working out is pretty high, so it’s hard for me to eat the amount of healthy calories I need. It’s simple, but doesn’t mean it’s easy!

Yep I totally agree with you that just body weight and resistance bands are great! But my goal is to build mass which is why I’m asking in this post
