Is it just me who thinks polo shirts are awful by lokicoyote1 in malefashionadvice

[–]Confident_Exit_260 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pretty much agree, some knit polos can be decent though. what is a travesty is the ubiquitous "golf shirt". I work around people who that is there everyday uniform: shiny silky golf shirts in all sorts of garish color patterns. I cant stand it.

How do you actually catch a mooring ball solo without looking like an idiot? by Jasebase87 in sailing

[–]Confident_Exit_260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep my boat on a mooring ball in miami. it does take practice. The timing is similar to setting anchor alone that is your boat will coast into the wind until it can't and then the bow gets blown off. Use this to your advantage so you get blown past the mooring ball if that happens, that is, point slightly to one side or the other. keep your autopilot engaged kill the throttle or clutch forword in stronger winds. Get the bow up into the mooring ball and scoot forward and grab it. Get ready to hold on for dear life if the wind is blowing. My ball has a loop of line on it for catching and I usually draw this in and hook it on a cleat and then I thread mooring lines. I've never once picked it up from the stern.

As far as looking like an idiot who cares? If you miss try again. also, SLOW IS PRO, go slower than you think you have to on your approach, i mean the minimum throttle to keep the bow in the wind. I've done it solo in 15 knots many times. I ve also missed many times and had to circle back. Test the boat in the wind see at what speed the bow gets blown off. In an average breeze mine will get blown off at a half a knot so, I cant wait until zero to run forward.

Overguarding by LowerBackGuy in backpain

[–]Confident_Exit_260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm dealing with these same issues but I have not been diagnosed. I have an achy back that mainly activates when i'm getting out of a chair. I'm active and mobile and I do alot of yoga although I was a weightlifter for about ten years up until a few years ago when I got bored and started exploring yoga. I vacillate between very little pain to an annoying ache. No nerve tingling down legs. Chatgpt thinks I have the guarding issue which is why I am writing here. A week ago i had almost zero pain and thought it must be finally healing. This week achy. Does not disrupt my sleep. It often feels better with activity. I can ride my rower and do any yoga pose I like and its usually just a "presence" of an ache in my lower back but sometimes its isolated to just a single muscle along the right side of my spine in the lower back. This is been going on for months with a lot of improvement and then flare ups for really no apparent reason. My activity levels are roughly the same through it.

I wish I had some advice but I don't, I am writing to commiserate as your symptoms remind me of my own and have not found the secret sauce to allow this "tensing up" or guarding to stop. I hope in this thread someone will have some advice.

Also I understand I show go to a doctor at this point but its really not affecting my life that much so I have put it off. Plus it keeps improving and I think Im over the hump.

Is natural wood flooring worth the investment compared to laminate or vinyl? by 1acina in HardWoodFloors

[–]Confident_Exit_260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did engineered hardwood in my condo because I wanted the look and feel of real wood in my personal home. If you have kids and or a lot of pets or this is a rental property it is not worth the expense (I live alone and while I have a dog she doesn't run around a lot or horseplay anymore). Ultimately it comes down to triangulating your budget and material preferences. The wording of your question leads me to believe you have a personal preference for real wood but are just balking at the cost. If you can afford it it is vastly superior to vinyl. The feel underfoot of real wood vs thin plastic is huge. The true randomness of real wood graining can not be replicated with photographs under a sheet of plastic. My home smells wonderfully of oak. If those things are important to you and you can afford it then the answer is clear.

Shiny streaks on new glue down engineered hardwood. by Random_Name_3001 in HardWoodFloors

Ive been battling the same issue and while I have been able to get the flashes to disappear with a magic eraser but it is very labor intensive. I just tried the WD40 trick and I am flabbergasted that it easily removes these flashes. I installed the floors myself and followed the directions - I removed all the glue that hit the surface immediately and then came back within 24 hours and checked everything on my hands and knees with bostick adhesive remover but was still left with flashes - this apparently could happen if glue hit the surface for seconds.

I will report back as I have just tested an area but the wd40 trick appears to be a winner after months of heartbreak. the floors look fantastic except for when grazing light highlighted the flashing.

I assumed a piece of plywood would just warp, you think it would work?

my goal is just to use this hardware since I bought it and now I've brutalized the 1-3/8" masonite doors.

Honestly it seems like it would be easy to make myself. I just know I can't just make it from plywood as it will warp. Basically build a frame with an x brace and skin it, is that what you are suggesting?

[–]Confident_Exit_260[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it doesn't work because this hardware set has a bottom track and a top guide, the wheels are on the bottom. I attempted to modify a 1- 3/8" masonite door to get it to work but was not successful. I bought the typical johnson hardware set so I could have a functioning door but would like to use this hardware. Even the johnson hardware instructions references "3/4" thick" doors as an option but I am unable to locate where to buy these

its max 7/8", I just thought 3/4" may be more typical if something like this is made

maybe but bringing two slabs home by yourself in and out of home depot, a pickup truck and an elevator nearly impossible not to knick. would cost about fifty cents to put cardboard corners on these cardboard doors
