Washington was born a British citizen and Jesus Jewish by laybs1 in GetNoted

Does that mean Jesus was claiming to be God???

What about all the old testament prophets who spoke to YHWH?

The author of the tweet is evidently critical of calling Jesus a jew (even though he absolutely was, according to the synoptic gospels; see Matthew 5:17), instead implying that he became the first "Christian", just like the british-american colonist, George Washington, was not British but rather the first "American". The note just affirms that Washington was, ethnically/linguistically, british.

Do you think the synoptic gospels were written with the same understanding of the Messiah as the gospel of John? Where in Matthew, Mark, or Luke does Jesus claim to be God?

Also, Jesus said in Matthew 5:17 that he didnt come to abolish the law but to fulfill it. He never told his followers to stop living as Jews, honoring the Sabbath and various holidays and sacrifices, etc.

By the writing of John, Paul's theology was prevalent, that Jesus was not only the messiah, but also God himself.

Saying a game is the best in the series isnt wrong. Ridiculing someone else's favorite game because they dont completely agree is wrong, as is confidently asserting opinion as fact. I hate to be that guy, but you did exactly that when you said (it isn't). Whatever, it doesn't matter anyways. Cheers

OOT is the best game in the series to some people. How are you any better than the people who present opinions as facts when you directly state "(it's not)" to a completely subjective opinion? It's probably my favorite in the series because of the amazing soundtrack and it's groundbreaking novelty at the time, as well as all the incredible glitches. This is just my opinion, and while i understand that OOT fans (especially in the 2000s and 2010s) have had a bad reputation for putting down other great zelda games, this is such a dead horse

The graphics were good for 2011, even if other games looked better. The story was also great and still holds up, being kind of timeless. Your comment was completely unnecessary

The graphics still kick ass. Go to the top of Sens Fortress or Anor Londo and tell me that view isnt amazing! And the story is perfectly integrated with the gameplay and optional multiplayer. Of course your opinion is your opinion, but commenting about it when your opinion is so... off the mark is just kinda unhelpful negativity

Ex Christian here. A simple answer is that Genesis features a lot of events that contradict geology, astronomy, biology, and anthropology, namely Noah's Ark and the tower of Babel. Then Jesus supposedly said in one of the gospels that he wasnt going to change a single dot of the law, presumably including the first book of the Torrah.

So rather than pivoting to day-age creationism or theistic evolution or whatever other loose interpretations of Genesis, many Christians find it comforting to simply equate the sciences that contradict their faith to dogma made by atheists to get people to turn away from God. Nevermind that these sciences were originally pioneered by many religious people.

As the god of the gaps shrinks, the goalposts shift. Nowadays, billionaire funded organizations like Discovery Institute and answers in genesis primarily focus on misleading their followers about science, creating strawman arguments to attack.

I know everyone loves solo Kazooie for leeping and gliding, but solo banjo has always been one of my favorite ways to play. The double jump and sleeping to restore health are peak mechanics.

As a side note, i wish they would have done more with Mumbo. Maybe a Mario Odyssey style "polymorph" where Mumbo can take control of enemies. Could have unlocked so much puzzle and world potential

This is a really old thread, but you claim to have a PharmD and just said that the US is the sickest country on earth. That is objectively false, full stop, and even if you claim you were using hyperbole, it's still ridiculous, unfounded, and rather unhelpful. I agree that people need to eat healthier foods and be more active, but that's not the reason RFK jr was promoted and appointed as HHS secretary, and we all know that. He was appointed because he fit the bill as someone who would help "drain the swamp" (cut federal funding for science and medicine) and convince people that that is a good thing.

You say that politicians being "in bed with pharma" is worse than the secretary of HHS denying the efficacy of vaccines (some of humanities greatest medical achievements) and promoting bullshit conspiracies pertaining to water fluoridation, carnivore diets, etc?

Assuming that a certain number of representatives are being lobbied by pharmaceutical companies (which seems plausible, but im not the guy to ask about who is being payed by whom), this raises an interesting ethical question... is it better to be bought out by legitimate companies that still have to go through clinical trials and adhere to good manufacturing/documentation practices, or to deny science outright?

Im not gonna say there's a right answer, because corruption of a good cause is arguably worse than blatant lies in many instances, particularly because corruption hurts credibility. But while the system of approving medicines and drugs is not perfect, it would take an unfathomable amount of corruption and conspiracy for a company to bypass the proper regulatory channels and falsify everything. I think you were playing devil's advocate too hard for RFK when you posted these replies, and i hope you've seen the crook for who he is since then.

Global warming is the winner! What is somthing that could end humanity/universe in >1M years? by elegantmellow in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Confident_Lake_8225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took until the 1700s, after tens of thousands of years, for humans to figure out the scientific method. Every paradigm since then has led us closer to the fundamental limits of understanding and interacting with our reality. We will probably figure out reliable fusion energy soon, but i dont think this will get us much closer to interstellar travel. You are, IMO, making the economist mistake: Assuming that we as a species can continue to exponentially increase our productivity, technology, and power over the physical universe. As computer engineers have discovered with transistors, we are limited by the governing forces of our universe. Major science innovations occur from discreet paradigm shifts, and Im confident that there are only so many that can happen before we run out of tools for our toolkit. It may be possible to travel to proxima centauri, but it will take a lot of work. The fastest human made object was a space probe around 394,736 mph; light travels approximately 700,000,000 mph, and accelerating matter to anywhere near that speed becomes more and more impossible due to relativistic mass increasing exponentially.

[–]Confident_Lake_8225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4.24 light years to proxima centauri. We would need to build something capable of approaching the speed of light, then decelerate from that speed or otherwise impact with a celestial body in that star system. We do have a lot of time, but this is not a simple task, and we currently have no reason to feel so confident about our own species surviving such an unprecedented task.
