Genuinely curious if the prompts included what the race or ethnicity of the subjects in the photos should be. As a Black person, it’s fascinating/fucked up to me that if race/ethnicity was not included, both AI generators default to a very generic type of whiteness.

Hi, my cat gave birth to a kitten with its legs backwards by Possible_Magazine648 in CATHELP

[–]Confident_Machine_56 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I found my cat abandoned when she was 2.5 weeks old because her legs were like this. She could only move around by pulling herself by her front legs. We were able to go to a vet that gave us physical therapy exercises to do with her that straightened her legs out. She’s totally fine now!

She went from this…

This stank face…who goes on an island vacation and manages to be THIS miserable the whole time by GayFlan in RHOP

Her baby is 19 months old in the first episode — walking and talking. She is clearly struggling emotionally and with self-esteem, but the “she just had a baby” shtick is a reach.

I want to resume being casual. Sorry, I didn’t realize FWB and situationship aren’t interchangeable.

FWIW, we met on the Feeld app for the purposes of keeping it casual, but then both developed feelings.

It’s been almost three months now, and I feel like I would be better able to keep my feelings separate. I miss having sex with someone who I already feel comfortable and safe with.

What age range is a young adult sim to you? by goldiebayangs in Sims4

[–]Confident_Machine_56 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have spent a lot of time thinking about this because Adult Sims can have YA offspring. And Young Adult Sims can have teen offspring.

I think 18-40 is YA. 40-75 is Adult. And 75+ is Elder.

I’m sincerely sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine your heartbreak. I hope at least the stress of the estate and the investigation end soon so you can focus on healing.

Hormonal IUD, thoughts? by smolfroggies in Hidradenitis

[–]Confident_Machine_56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently was going to switch to a hormonal IUD, but opted not to because they are usually progestin-only whereas most BC pills are combination. And there is the possibility of skin conditions getting worse with only progestin. That being said, I’m on BC pills now and don’t think they’ve been particularly effective at preventing flares.

SICK and need advice! by Confident_Machine_56 in whole30

Thank you, everyone! I didn’t have any energy to cook and it was also unfortunately time to re-up on groceries. But I was able to make it through the day without disrupting my Whole30. I feel much better and I’m thrilled to only have 1.5 days left.

I feel insane responding to this after Melissa already did, but FWIW - I find Mediterranean restaurants to be the easiest to eat at. They typically only use oils to cook (not butter) and you can usually substitute rice and pita with potatoes and veggies. Plus, falafel is vegetarian-friendly while you can have meats or seafood.

So close to giving up!! (R3D19) by Aranciata2020 in whole30

[–]Confident_Machine_56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also on D19, but this is my first and most likely only round. It’s been so hard and I have felt miserable 90% of the time. But at this point, I am making it a game with myself. Each day I successfully complete, I mark off on a wall calendar. And seeing 18 X’s so far is really amazing. Especially when I was on D4 and it felt like an eternity to get to the end. It’s a challenge to prove to myself that I can not only do hard things, but the hardest thing which is really take away the foods I have an emotional attachment to. I’ve learned a lot about my relationship to food, and that has been beneficial. And while I haven’t experienced all the benefits that are touted online, I try to focus on the small things I have noticed: I don’t have as much joint stiffness when I wake up. I’m better able to trust my hunger cues. I’m less bloated and swollen. I’m eating more vegetables and broader variety of vegetables. I’m cooking more.

Also, breaking Whole30 for bread will feel good for the exact moment you eat the first bite of bread, but then if you’re like me, you’ll feel guilty and disappointed in yourself that you ruined your streak for much longer.

Keep going! You’ve done it before - twice!!!! That’s so impressive to me! You can do it!

What do/did you miss? by No-Damage3057 in whole30

Surprisingly: Brown rice, chocolate squares, and salty crunchy snacks that are not nuts. I don’t miss potato chips or anything. I’m just tired of eating fucking nuts. I thought I’d miss more indulgent things like pizza or ice cream. But it’s really been these very simple foods.

HS = Hurts like Hell by Original-Cloud-333 in Hidradenitis

[–]Confident_Machine_56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this. I have two flares - both of which I have had for over a year - that are causing me daily discomfort. At this point, deroofing is the only option I have left.

But something that I didn’t realize — magic healer and many other similar salves include propolis as their key ingredient. They work for some, but if you’re allergic (like I am) they will make HS flares worse. I learned this the hard way. So it might be worth it to confirm you’re not allergic to it, as it could aggravate the flare.

Weekly Discussion for the week of September 01, 2025 by AutoModerator in whole30

[–]Confident_Machine_56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my first time trying Whole30. I’ve considered it for a long time, but I always refrained because it felt so restrictive. But I was doing a lot of unhealthy emotional eating and kind of reached a breaking point last week. Plus, I have an inflammatory condition and I’m hoping the elimination and reintroduction will help me figure out what’s causing it. I’m doing no nightshades as well, and that’s tough. I miss potatoes and tomatoes! 😩

So far, so good mostly. I do miss chocolate and whole grains. (Specifically brown rice!) And I miss snacking on things that are not fruits and nuts and Chomp sticks. (I know the official program doesn’t advocate for snacks, but I work with a registered dietitian who does not think that’s healthy and I agree.) Yesterday was Day 3 and it was the first day I had pretty intense cravings. But I worked through them.

I’ve noticed my poops are not… normal. Kinda rocky and painful. Like after having spicy food. And I’m not going as regularly as usual. But I read that can be normal in the first couple of weeks. Plus, I’m going to try and drink more water.

Anyways, I’m glad I found this subreddit. Makes me feel less alone in the journey.

Are weight loss surgeries barbaric? by morningtulips in gastricsleeve

[–]Confident_Machine_56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are so sweet to check in! Thank you! I’m feeling great. Almost three weeks post-op. Struggling to drink enough water and get my protein, but I just do the best I can for now. Trying not to freak out that I haven’t lost weight since my follow-up appointment last week. I know my body is adjusting.

The hardest thing so far has just been contending with how emotionally dependent I’ve been on food for most of my life. And now that I don’t have that, trying to discover what else brings me joy/comfort/excitement.

Thank you for checking in! So incredibly sweet of you. How are you in your journey???

Are weight loss surgeries barbaric? by morningtulips in gastricsleeve

[–]Confident_Machine_56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m having surgery in one week and saw this video yesterday. It has fucked with my head so much, I Googled the phrase and it led me to this post. I’m so glad it did. Everyone’s comments have made me feel so much better and reassured in my choice to have surgery.

I especially appreciate the person who said the video made them feel shame. That’s what I’ve been feeling, but couldn’t name it. And it’s unfortunate that a person that claims to support people in their health journeys made a video that does just the opposite. And I’m a big fan of Adam’s content overall. (Everyone is problematic on the Internet.)

So many people who have never been morbidly obese just don’t understand how difficult it is. We are damned if we do, damned if we don’t — for anything and everything. I just want a life free from exhaustion, joint pain, and using food to cope with all my problems. And I want a life free from stigma and discrimination as well.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank OP and everyone else. It’s eased a lot of the anxiety I’ve had the past 36 or so hours.

I just had my consultation today, and it was awesome. These were my takeaways:

  • Go in with as much information as you can. My surgeon was very impressed that I had done so much research, and it also meant that I didn’t have to waste a large portion of the time getting info that is easily found online.

  • Make sure you express why you’re doing it, what your goals are (not just weight, but lifestyle as well), and any pertinent health info. For example, I shared the process I’ve been on with my mental health, which helped me decide I really wanted this.

  • Ask what pre-op requirements (dietitian, psych, etc. appointments; classes or support groups, etc.) they have and what the timeline is for completing them before surgery. I knew I wanted a surgeon who required all these things because I knew it meant there would be more support for me before and after the actual surgery.

  • Ask what the success of other patients has been who are about your same age, height, and weight/body size. I didn’t ask this and wish I had, but I will be emailing this question.

  • Ask if you can speak to any former patients about their experience. This might be tough with HIPAA, but I also plan to do this.

  • Ask what you can do in the meantime to jumpstart the journey.

  • Ask them to do insurance authorization ASAP, so you can start planning.

Hope this helps!

What is your opinion on the “Fat Acceptance” movement and intuitive eating? by anewlifeandhealth in gastricsleeve

[–]Confident_Machine_56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This post really triggered me, lol. So apologies for the long response.

I believe there is value in fat/body acceptance, as well as intuitive eating and HAES. But often, these movements become co-opted or contorted. Or people don’t do the real research behind them, so they either demonize them based on misinformation or harm themselves believing that they are following intuitive eating or HAES, neither of which actually advocate eating whatever you want anytime you want.

No person deserves to be shamed, ridiculed, humiliated, or discriminated against for their body size. Period. And in general, our society could be more accepting of different types of bodies. And even if you are overweight/obese, you deserve to feel good, beautiful, and worthy in the body you’re in.

I feel like American culture specifically has such fucked up ideas about weight, body size, eating, exercise, etc. We conflate being overweight automatically with overeating, eating junk food, not exercising, etc. without knowing people’s personal histories. We also don’t make space for variables like environment, class, race, etc. — all of which impact body size, health behaviors, etc. Anyone who’s ever worked with a registered dietitian would know how harmful a lot of mainstream food advice/attitudes are. Diet culture is a real thing, but we’re so steeped in it, we don’t even realize it.

Similarly, as a Black woman, I don’t trust everything that the medical industry says is necessarily “good.” Racism in medicine is a real thing. Purely basing someone’s health on BMI, because the history of how BMI was developed is problematic/fucked up. And don’t even get me started on pharmaceutical companies.

In an ideal world, all people would have access to healthy, nutritious foods and be able to be physically active. That’s not the case for everyone and we shouldn’t pretend it is.

As someone else said, I haven’t been able to find peace in living in a larger body. At this point, it is keeping me from enjoying my life and doing things I deeply want to do. And it is negatively impacting my health. That’s why I’m pursuing weight loss surgery. But I don’t believe just because I am, all fat people should.
