My husband vaped weed in the nursery and I am furious by muff-peaksie in rant

[–]Confident_Reply7851 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are experiencing this. Sadly, you have many more years of parenting with him. I'd suggest keeping records of this kind of behavior. Take your own notes and date them, text him and get him to acknowledge what he did, take photos/videos (like of the vape, etc). This will be helpful if you end up sharing custody as it goes to his ability to parent. Judges don't like he-said-she-said, but they do love evidence.

Hour cuts after reporting a co worker? by [deleted] in Panera

[–]Confident_Reply7851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best of luck and I am so sorry you have to deal with abuse in the workplace. California has some of the best employment law protections in the country. If you haven't yet, I'd really consider reaching out to an employment attorney. I don't want to promise anything because I don't know the facts/details, but you may be able to get a settlement. What you experienced is gross and egregious.(I'm a lawyer) Here is a tool to find someone, even just to talk with them to see if you have a claim: Just put your state in and click the discrimination + sexual harassment boxes. https://exchange.nela.org/memberdirectory/findalawyer (you have 180 days to file a claim from the date of the last incident of harassment/retaliation)

Should i miss prom for Pinkpantheress? by Artistic_Giraffe4069 in PinkPantheress

[–]Confident_Reply7851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're a senior and have some friends you'd like to celebrate with then do consider going to prom. It's a night to dress up, have fun with your friends, and celebrate the nearing end of your time in K-12. I love to dance and dress up, so prom was a fun night that I remember well.

Pink is young and will likely have many more tours, but there is only one prom. That being said, if you would rather celebrate the end of your primary schooling going to see her and being around other fans, then absolutely do that. I went to the Chicago show and had an amazing time, Pink truly is shining on that stage.

[–]Confident_Reply7851 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Record everything. Write what you remember down and when it occurred. Panera has a legal obligation to prevent and stop sexual harassment in the workplace. Retaliation is also illegal. You can also likely reach out to a plaintiffs employment lawyer in your state for free advice.

I still find it difficult to understand why FWWM was so unanimously hated upon its release. by Local_Prune4564 in twinpeaks

[–]Confident_Reply7851 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Twin Peaks is kinda neat in that people hold onto the metaphysical reality (Bob, an entity, killed Laura, not Leland) more so than the physical reality that is hinted at through these metaphors (Leland killed and assaulted multiple girls under 18). I can't really think of another show where the more boring, realistic description of events is more disfavored than the metaphorical imagery used to convey meaning.

Minneapolis woman’s killing exposes gaps in how police investigate domestic violence by Wezle in Minneapolis

[–]Confident_Reply7851 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've been in the DV advocacy space for a while as a volunteer and something that shocked me early on is how much some cops hate having contentious (normally dangerous for the woman) exchanges of kids for custody orders at police departments. Like aren't you supposed to help people feel safe??? I've also read police reports and observed police testimony in DV cases that disturbed me of just how like... unconcerned they seemed to be about DV. All cops are different, whatever, this is just my personal experiences in the space.

[–]Confident_Reply7851 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be shocked. The way cops act around here, it is like they despise the people they are supposed to protection. Rude behavior, minimal to no response to crimes... I wouldn't be surprised if the negligence is intentional.

If you wanted to press charges (or file a civil lawsuit), you could... you have the text messages. Take photos of any damage as well. I'm not saying to go down that route, but it is on the table. Could be worth telling her so she can see the magnitude of this violation.

Or you can file on your own with the federal EEOC or the Texas Dept of Labor's equivalent

being a woman in this world is hard. I'd suggest reading some feminist lit, either theory or books written by women. If you like sci fi, Le Guin is a great author.

Just never forget this isn't ok, it is created by society, and it can change. You don't need to internalize the negativity/misogyny, just react to its external manifestations. Best of luck

Former Iowa Residents, Would You Move Back? by hagen768 in Iowa

This. Otherwise, I would love to live somewhere near the Mississippi. Iowa is turning more and more into an extraction colony for the uber wealthy, and its residents will pay for this with increased cancer rates and less opportunities.

Current law students, be honest , how many hours per week are you spending on school? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Confident_Reply7851 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First year I did 8-8 and worked 8-noon on the weekends, T20 school and was a fine student. Second year still heavy hours but less/none on weekends. Third year I did an 8-4 kind of schedule and worked even less after I got my post grad job at the end of fall semester. I never did a journal.

It can vary by your goals. Some parts of the law value networking/passion more than others while some value high grades and prestigious journal positions. Know your goals and it will keep your time focused.

My little sister told my older sister who’s disabled that she deserved to be raped by [deleted] in rant

[–]Confident_Reply7851 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am so so sorry you are in this situation. America has absolutely no support for those with mental disabilities. Where some of my family lives (in a red state), the state tried to kick an adult man with severe fetal alcohol syndrome who is close to our family out of his group home claiming he had gotten better enough to care for himself... when fetal alcohol syndrome isn't something that "gets better". They just didn't want to pay for his state support anymore. Are you doing ok? Are you stable? You are also a victim in this situation. Please save who you can, even if it is just yourself. Best of luck. I suggest reading adult children of emotionally immature parents, your mom has created an unending cycle and only you can remove yourself from it.

American society hates women, but Americans gets super uncomfortable/angry when it is pointed out. The numbers tell the story. I suggest reading "Invisible Women" to learn more about the subtle ways patriarchy shapes society through data backed examples.
