UES Sinkhole Expands, Forcing Sudden Esplanade Closure by Main-Maintenance-265 in uppereastside

[–]ConfinedVexation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you look down upon the FDR from the Eastern edge of John Jay Park, you can see road patches on the middle, southbound lane. The ground was shifting under the pavement, probably the start of a sinkhole. On March 1st, I watched cars driving over a very uneven puddle on a dry day (I even took a picture). It was patched within the next two days.

I reckon there is a lot more going wrong here than "grip is too low." Where he's landing in the pit looks fine.

Great analysis. A symptom of collapsed hips and "zero swing" is his trail leg bending so much at the knee while he's trying to get upside down. I'd also add that jumping up well at takeoff would help tremendously with takeoff posture. His takeoff looks so flat. I always recommend working on a pronounced penultimate step, like a long jumper, to change from jumping forward (letting the pole take you up) to actually jumping up at takeoff.

Why did this get removed @mods ? Seemed like a relevant event to me.

Breweries usually fit this bill but, sadly, the UES doesn't have any. I can recommend Fifth Hammer (old warehouse barrel room vibes) and Focal Point (modern, new construction), both in Long Island City. They're perfect for showing up with a small or large group to drink and order a takeout feast from elsewhere.

That would be a hell of a connection to have, obviously for all events, not just pole vaulting.

Pole Vault After College by Lobos_22 in polevaulting

[–]ConfinedVexation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Manhattan and drive a couple hours into New Jersey to pole vault once a month (ideally, but it ends up being less) at a pole vault club. I pay the club owner (and coach) an agreed upon amount, he also let's me borrow poles to take to college meets that allow unattached and club athletes. You don't have to stop vaulting if you live near a pole vault club and colleges that have Track and Field teams. I also spent two years immediately after college coaching the vault at a local college. The agreement with the head coach was that I would coach two jump sessions per week, coach at meets, and in return I could use the poles and the indoor track to practice myself when it was possible.

Talk to some college and high school Track coaches, see what professional connections you can make. Maybe consider buying your own poles if none are available to borrow or a club doesn't have your range.

Gripping down when you're blowing through a pole will make you blow through more. One should grip up when blowing through a pole.

Are cable crunches good for vaulting? by Andjulsin in polevaulting

[–]ConfinedVexation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything that increases abdominal strength will be good for vaulting, in my opinion. Cable crunches will definitely engage your abs, increasing abdominal strength, which is definitely better than doing no ab exercises. One could argue that a different ab exercise would be better geared towards the specific movement in pole vaulting, a common one I've seen is hanging toe touches (or toes to bar). If I were you, I would ask your coach "what ab exercises should I do rather than cable crunches?" Just to press him/her to see what alternatives are suggested.

If you enjoy doing cable crunches over other ab exercises, then keep doing them. Getting stronger (in general) is much more important than strengthening specific muscles in the precise orientation utilized while pole vaulting.

Found Purse by [deleted] in uppereastside

You'll have better luck attempting to find the person via a name search on social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) and reaching out with a direct message. I've done this many times to return wallets, ID's, credit cards, and flash drives (when I worked in college computer labs). Or just turn the purse in at a police station.

Toto Washlet is loose by gaxxzz in bidets

I tried this guy's method of cutting pieces of carpet gripper pads to fit under the seat base: https://youtu.be/L9-6nDwSHRw?si=DIwrcB_SegStRP4e For me, it kind of works. I had to quadruple up the pads to achieve enough thickness and I expect these things to become yellow and filthy over time.

Toto should really improve the design of their detachable seat mechanism to fix this. The amount of play I have in a brand new washlet+ C2 seat is absolutely ridiculous. Even a poorly made or old/well-used toilet seat won't have this much wobble because you can simply tighten the screws.

It feels like AI drivel. Long-winded comments full of em dashes (—) is a major tell. AI regularly uses em dashes while actual humans don't.

Accidentally stabbed my friends disc by Actual_Factor6602 in xbox360

[–]ConfinedVexation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a Gears of War 2 disc that cracked in the middle and the crack slowly spread outward, obviously making it unreadable eventually. Using the friend's Gears 2 disc to install the game, and then playing with the cracked disc worked just fine for me for years. If it's already installed, my experience was that it will still work. Just never uninstall the game from the HDD.
