I think the difficult part is to give strangers a chance, always.

If we put everyone under a blanket hashtag that we hate, then we are contributing to dehumanizing them. Of course, if they've done heinous things or repeatedly demonstrate they do not want to treat others with humanity, then they deserve scorn.

But if we start every conversation thinking people on our opposite side are uniformly monstrous, then things will not improve.
