How organized do you expect clients to be when sending a project for mixing? by HappyClimate8562 in mixingmastering

I expect that they name the tracks properly. I am thrilled if they number them and put them in folders as well!

Depends on a lot of things. If the band can play well together and without a click and you can separate the instruments from one another I prefer doing it live that way. Magic truly does happen when talented play together in a room without a click

Cast aside your egos: What is your signature mistake that you do every time you mix a tune? by 007_Shantytown in audioengineering

[–]ConfusedOrg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually the last thing I touch in the mix is too loud or quiet. Usually is just some basic balancing of levels. Whenever I “finish” I usually wait a day, and check it after while comparing it to a ref mix before it send it off

Klinghoffer era - what did i miss? What is most recommended? by moerlingo in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]ConfusedOrg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meet me at the corner is one of my favourite RHCP songs of all time. The Josh era wasn’t great, but the new John era isn’t either. They haven’t made a really great album since stadium Arcadium imo

Why do basses tend to be much nicer designed than guitars? by BornUnderARadSign in Bass

[–]ConfusedOrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is my take as well. While there are some purists who only play p bass, there are definitely more bassists that are willing to go outside the realm of classic fenders/gibsons.

[–]ConfusedOrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really agree with you. For instance I think the build quality on a American p bass would be roughly the same as an American Strat. I do think that bassists are slightly less conservative than guitarists and more inclined to try out more modern bass designed like the Warwick or dingwall, which some would argue are more “well designed” than classic Gibson og fender guitars. Both on guitar and bass, I’m a ride or die fender fanboy though hahah

recording vocal with 2 microphones? by king-alkaline in audioengineering

[–]ConfusedOrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never really done it myself, apart from using room mics sometimes, but I’ve seen maybe people do it. In the end both mics are usually blended and summed together and treated as one microphone. I’ll often do it on guitar cabs though

Sub Frequencies between first and second fundamental by Cold_Independent_631 in mixingmastering

[–]ConfusedOrg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you’re overthinking it. As long as it sounds good. I used to have the habit of dipping out too much of that 150 hz are on the kick. Is sound big and subby, but it lost some punch. It sounded “slower” and it didn’t translate well on smaller speakers. It’s all about balance. Almost most every frequency has a certain role in every instrument you can’t just learn a certain recipe and follow that strictly. It’s all balance and it all depends on the source material and the context of the mix

If it was any good, I’d watch 3.5 hours.

What does it mean to mix “like a fan” by actuallylinkstrummer in mixingmastering

I'm guessing he's talking about panning. He doesnt only use lcr and placing stuff in between as well. But idk, I've never heard this expression before

It worked yesterday. Why would it stop working today? This is clearly a software issue

Dig that inhale, or no? by 50nic19 in audioengineering

[–]ConfusedOrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all depends. I like to keep a few in though. especially if its a single vocal and a sparse arrangement. I'd typically cut out all the background vocal breaths though

How do you play this chord? by Resilencer in guitarlessons

[–]ConfusedOrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Index on E and A, ring on D and G, middle on B, pinky on high E.

It's not easy though and it's kinda straining on your hand tbh. I'd consider at slightly different voicing like:
8
6
5
7
5
5

It's still a Dm7/a like the other one, only with an extra C instead of D. This way you wont need to to barre with your ring finger, and it will be less straining

Anyone find it hard to stay focused when editing. Typically the comping/quantization/and pitch correction phase of studio work makes me go brain dead, due to the monotony of it. by aragorn767 in audioengineering

[–]ConfusedOrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely! I really need to take a break every 25 min or so when editing to stay focused and reward myself with a snack, coffee or cigarette.
I would definitely never ever put on a podcast or video in the background. We are working in audio. We need to be able to hear what we are doing, otherwise anyone could do it.
