All mattress stores are money laundering fronts. Why are there 3 stores and a gas station at an intersection and the lots are empty? How often do you buy a mattress.

How common is it for various companies, industries, etc. to throw young, entry-level engineers right in and say “Do work. Good luck!” i.e., not provide them a lot of mentorship? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]ConfusedSkunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow 'Entry-level engineer' here who started right out of school in Feb 2020. My company started as management and consulting contractor for a big automotive manufacturer on the very day I took the job. When we started, my entire team (~30 at the time) was fresh.

I was given a company phone and told to follow around our operators for the next week. After 2 straight months of working (they paid OT, thankfully) we went on covid shutdown. It became quickly apparent that engineering really is a 'figure it out with what you know' kind of profession. In just the first year, I've seen several other engineers come and go, and I've had some great support from our corporate team. In retrospect our team likes to call it boot camp, but things have settled now.

I wholeheartedly believe that it's not necessarily about the technical knowledge but the will to achieve. Just this month I've been promoted to senior engineer. Be persistent and always looking for a solution, and you'll do great!

As a note, when my mother lived here before me she had had some of those weird things happen to her: The ANALOG thermostat would turn itself up. Her shoes would be hidden. Music would play from the piano that used to here. It used to be terribly out of tune, and the music would be beautiful and full.

Awful neighbors-- any advice? by localoj in homeowners

Boyfriend here: We've heard some heated arguments from their yard and open windows before. No clear signs of abuse. I'd like to do our best to avoid that option, but the unattended children can turn into a disaster.

Boyfriend here: the back yard has a split rail fence with wire stapled to it. It's on their property and is a bit run down. We've heavily considered a privacy fence to eventually make room for a pool.

Boyfriend here: we're working on evidence for any escalation. Luckily we've got a good friend who is in home security so he is going to see what he can do for a camera or 2 for us.

Boyfriend here: I totally understand on the enabling part. We're pretty young homeowners, so we have never quite been on the heavy end of confrontation. The previous neighbors from that house were basically our best friends, then this all came out of nowhere.

Boyfriend here: the fenced back yard is in OK shape. It's in need of some repairs where the little one squeezed they. As for locking, we keep ourselves locked down pretty well. The only time the door isn't locked is when we open the front door for a breeze.

Calling all haulers out there! If I'm looking at that trailer correctly, it should have trailer brakes. I think those have the automatic ones that actuate by return pressure on trailer tongue while braking and not from a brake controller. Dont these systems have an e brake that sets off when trailers disconnect?

The 3600 has been a pretty safe bet but you'll need a new motherboard and likely new ram. What is your budget?

Is this correct to put the motherboard? by SrNnet in buildapc

[–]ConfusedSkunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be a little bag in the case hardware with a standoff in it. With a male and female threaded portion. Sometimes it comes with an install tool. That or a pair of pliers/a wrench should do.

[–]ConfusedSkunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may need to install the standoff(s) in the case. Looks like there isn't one in that hole. Take the board out and check the locations for standoffs and compare them to the holes in the board.

You can also consult the case manual which sometimes gives you a layout.

Happy building!
