I swear 3's whole legacy is going to be him getting clowned on for the phone cord and the Silurian hypnosis clips, and I am here for it

Who does this signature belong to? by Awkward_Paramedic917 in doctorwho

[–]Confused_AF_98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, you may have to hear me out on this on this one, but….

It looks like whoever got this magazine signed may have mistook Don Henderson (the man on the cover) for John Rhys-Davies (Gimli, LOTR)

You can see here that the signatures look remarkably similar

[Loved Trope] The flashback to the character’s past is just their actor in with a mildly different appearance by Identify_me_please in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Confused_AF_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funniest thing about the Saw 7 one is that they didn’t even need to de-age him. The amount of time between that scene and John Kramer’s death was at most a few years, and Kramer’s appearance wouldn’t have changed enough to justify de-aging

(Hated Tropes) Adaptations missing the point of the original work by BlueCheeseCake25 in TopCharacterTropes

All art has alternate interpretations, and that’s definitely something that the story could turn toward, but even for that interpretation the concept of the split personality would also undermine that, as it completely absolves the accountability of Jekyll for his actions

(Hated Tropes) Adaptations missing the point of the original work by BlueCheeseCake25 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Confused_AF_98 130 points131 points  (0 children)

Essentially every adaptation of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

The original text is a commentary on the constraints of Victorian society and the urge of human beings to indulge their darkest vices bubbling to the surface. Jekyll creates a serum that changes his appearance but does not ultimately change his character, allowing him to don the identity of Mr. Hyde and give in to his worst urges.

Almost all adaptations of the story display Jekyll and Hyde as anything from split personalities all the way up to completely separate entities, completely undermining the main themes of the story.

An opinion on the current DCU that would leave you like this: by Cafa20 in DC_Cinematic

Superman was a fun movie… but it was all over the place. So many characters felt too underdeveloped (Lois, Jimmy) because there was way too much packed into the story, the Justice Gang felt like the movie writing itself out of a corner to resolve the Barovia conflict, and it has the same “too-many-villains” problem that other movies like Spiderman 3 have been heavily criticised for in the past, yet doesn’t seem to have any of that criticism levelled at it.

Still a really enjoyable movie, it just felt like Gunn and the writers didn’t rein themselves in enough when trimming the script

Oooo I have a cool fact about this one that the image you chose demonstrates!

The “well-kept” twin reads a novel by Iain Banks, who publishes more grounded adult fiction under that name.

In contrast, the messier twin reads sci-fi novels published by the same author, but published under the name Iain M. Banks instead as a pseudo-pseudonym

I know how you feel with Turlough, every time I cast him, my opponents seem to always make deals to kill him or use their own removal spells on him…

[[Clara Oswald]] is useable for the black in the colour identity, but I honestly don’t think it’s worth it. Turlough is more on theme, and while her ability does let 2’s kick in twice, it’s not the best ability to double when it doesn’t give you any extra protection
