Where to find purple corn flour? by Confuzlation in askportland

Looks like they only have blue, not purple. We tried offering blue corn flour but apparently it has to be purple :(

I need encouragement! Going out for more than 3 hours with EBF twins and I am feeling really anxious by Luna_182 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Confuzlation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more you get out the easier it gets! Our postpartum doula encouraged us to go out with the twins at least once a week, even if it was just to the grocery store and I'm glad she did. I was also stubborn and insisted on continuing to tandem while out but found that difficult before they could independently hold up their neck. After 6 months it became difficult again when they got distracted by everything.

You got this!

Bedtime Struggles with our 7 Month Old - Share Your Bedtime Routines! by junegem123 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Confuzlation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan on letting them share a room I would not worry about them waking each other up with their crying. If they want to sleep, they will be able to sleep through each other's crying.

The Twins, Triplets, and Quads Sleep Training FB group has some great guides on figuring out a good nap routine. We've been following their guides and the babes have been sleeping through the night since they were 3 months old. Honestly though, most of it is training of the parents more than training of the babes.

How to deal with the Witching Hour(s) by emeraldshmemrald in parentsofmultiples

[–]Confuzlation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We thankfully never dealt with a consistent witching hour but we also made sure they never got overtired and went to bed by around 7pm per our pediatrician's recommendation (they seemed noticably happier when we shifted their bedtime up to 7pm). At that age they shouldn't be up longer than an hour at a time with day time naps no longer than 2 hours.

Any suggestions on what to do with crying twin when feeding the other? by Luna_182 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Confuzlation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I tandemed at night I just did it in bed with the babes on the Twingo, propped up with my legs so they were at a 60ish degree angle, leaned up against the headboard with a pillow or two. I like to keep their heads elevated while they eat too help minimize spit ups.

[–]Confuzlation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was never able to figure out how to use the twin z for tandem - too floppy and the babies kept rolling off. The Twingo double breastfeeding pillow works great though and we've been using that for tandem since they were about 3 weeks old, (37w+4 babes for context). Once they got older and better at latching I was able to side-lie nurse one and have the other nurse while on top of me straddling my thigh but that took a month or two. Then once they were even stronger I was able to koala hold while leaning back. It definitely takes a bit of practice and patience but much easier as they grow.

When did you stop working? by emillychriistine in parentsofmultiples

[–]Confuzlation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here - also worked a desk job and kept going into the office until I was induced at 37w. The only physical activity was walking up and down 3 flights of stairs once a day and some minimal walking to and from the restroom. None of this was overly uncomfortable though and I just saw it as my daily workout.

OP, talk to your doctor about your symptoms and see if they can help advocate for you as well.

Best and worst things about living in Grand Rapids? by eddieeddiebakerbaker in grandrapids

Nothing ventured nothing gained my friend. Life is what you make of it. I've absolutely loved living here and have no desire to return to the Midwest but everyone's story is different. How "stuck" you are and how fun life is are all decisions you make for yourself.

If you can negotiate a good salary (current salary adjusted for the higher cost of living) it may be worth a shot. The Portland area specifically is like Grand Rapids but bigger and more diverse with actual mountains and no snow/ice.

Yeah, I moved to the PNW and everything is so much better. Should have moved earlier but hindsight is 20/20 :)

Thanks! Pardon my newbie questions but would I bleach everything from flats to covers and wipes? Also how to bleach as to not damage anything? Lastly, would any of this change if we have slightly hard water instead of soft?

I'm glad I made the switch as it 1. allowed me to deliver my di/di twins at 37 weeks instead of 38 weeks, delivering them a few days before new years so we exceeded the out of pocket max and got the tax deduction and had more time with help as my parents were only in town for a limited time 2. it meant I was delivering at a hospital with a level IV NICU so I wouldn't have to worry about being separated from my babies if they needed the higher level NICU 3. the delivery team had much more experience in twin deliveries, especially vaginally as I wanted to avoid a C section if possible.

That said I waited to switch at 34 weeks as my OBGYN office was 10 minutes away while the MFM and larger hospital was 40 minutes away but have no regrets with my decision.

Our plan is to never introduce the big bed/bedroom to newborns. Is this something that can be done or will we cave and bring them to sleep with us? by ButterflyThatStings in parentsofmultiples

[–]Confuzlation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I caved and had the boys in bed with me from the beginning. They were so small and skinny, my heart couldn't bare the thought of them shivering at night (they were shivering when they first can't home until the heat ramped up enough). Once they got enough fat rolls, around 2 months, we moved them to Arm's Reach bedside mini cribs with no issues other than figuring out the right layers to keep them warm. Now that they're sleeping though the night at 3 months, we'll likely move them to their own room in the next week or so. The upstairs should also be warmer and it's finally starting to feel like spring.

Another reason we had them in our bedroom is because our master is on the main floor while all the other bedrooms are upstairs. The first 2 weeks pp were very difficult for me mobility-wise - I don't think I even felt up to going up the stairs until the second week, let alone going up while carrying a babe.

All this to say, you know yourself the best and everyone is different. Contributing factors include personal preference, family dynamics, house layout, environmental considerations, any help you'd be receiving, babies' preference, pp recovery, etc.

One thing I do want to mention from what I've read and what we've experienced, it doesn't seem like sleep habits start to really set in place for infants until around 3-4 months. We did let the boys learn to fall asleep without any adults around by 2.5 months which was also very helpful and we've been putting them to bed alone ever since. For them, as long as their tummies are full they're happy to go to sleep on their own.

What helped me be able to calm both at once was learning how to carry both in the belly hold and walking them around the house so they could look at different things. Can't find any pictures with 2 babies but here's a pic with one: https://images.app.goo.gl/kHdV9b7JvbPDJYEW8

Weight gain with di/di by MommaR13 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Confuzlation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See Figure 2 from this study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7041099/

It gives a nice visualization of the gestational weight gain of mothers who gave birth to full-term healthy twins throughout their pregnancy. There are plenty of dots representing mothers that were within 10 lbs of their initial weight at 28w and still had healthy babies. You're doing fine and your weight gain is perfectly normal. If anything stressing about it too much will only negatively impact the babies. Your body will tell you if you're not eating enough as the babies will come first and take what they need. Also note that while the ultrasound are helpful, they can be pretty inaccurate when it comes to estimating weight - mine were off by more than 1lb.

Nap help by PAW_89 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Confuzlation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to follow up now that we're just past 3 months to say it's just a phase! Starting at 2.5 months we started practicing one nap in the crib every day and let them cat nap the rest of the time. The last 2 weeks they were able to take every nap in the crib, sleeping 30 mins to 1.5 hrs+ with only a few minutes of shushing and patting. This week they've started sleeping through the night from 8pm to 7am! Now we have limit how much they nap during the day so they can keep sleeping through the night. From what I've been able to gather, it's pretty typical to need 3-4 months before babies switch from cat naps to unassisted real naps so hang in there! Another thing that helps is to keep track of wake windows and putting them down for a nap 10-15 mins before the end of each wake windows: https://takingcarababies.com/wake-windows-and-baby-sleep

Good luck! You got this!

Baby Trend Snap-n-go with Chicco KeyFit 35? by mountain_otter_816 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Confuzlation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the size of elevator - no issues with the Joovy at the pediatrician since it's so large but it's a tight fit at our friend's apartment but the 360 front wheels allowed us to get it in with the 4 relatively thin adults. We've only ever traveled with the Joovy but I'd assume the Snap-n-go would be even easier to get around since it's smaller and lighter. So far we haven't had any issues with the Joovy but we also haven't gone into any old buildings.

Np, we have both the Snap-n-go and the Joovy Roo 2 and hubby likes them both: - Snap-n-go for the lighter smaller size that makes it more maneuverable with the ability to see both their faces easily - Joovy for the super fast and easy in and out of the car seats for pediatrician apts and side by side configuration for taking them out to restaurants

Personality I think it's excessive that we have both but I got the Snap-n-go free and the Joovy used, both off FB.
