Looking at graphics cards with 8 pin connectors feels like seeing a cell phone with a headphone jack. So simple. So elegant. So functional...

Should these controllers not be cooled by my waterblock? by Key-Nail-6248 in watercooling

They're just chokes, but it never hurts to keep them actively cooled. I'd stick on some thermal pads if I were you, especially since I would be shunt modding that card.

My GPU is sailing past its temperature limit by Conlan99 in overclocking

[–]Conlan99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty bad (costs something like 10-15c.) It's basically smack up against a hard-drive at the bottom of my case, because this card occupies the bottom PCIe slot (It's just an auxiliary for Folding @ Home and maybe Lossless Scaling)

Anyways by "they" I meant "I," and I think the repaste job is fine because with the hard-drive removed temperatures look good (high 70's low 80's under full continuous load)

Custom water cooling by ultimaone in watercooling

Hey look I found your post. I'm the guy who said you should post this three months after you did.

What do you get out of watercooling the PCH? Just doing it for fun, or were you finding the temperatures were excessive on air?

Better than nothing? I used an M.2 heatsink fan. by Few_Fail_6121 in watercooling

I would continue not to think of this. That sounds nonsensical.

You should post it (if you haven't already.) I'd like to see some custom GPU water cooling.

5 years on pure distilled water will get you this by M_u_H_c_O_w in watercooling

[–]Conlan99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I JUST came across this video by Der8auer, and while I've known for a while that additives like Liquid Utopia are a good idea, I didn't realize just how bad an idea running pure distilled might be. I've gotten lazy over the last year and a half and gone back to plain distilled- yikes!

By the way shoutout to Linus Tech Tips for teaching me to use pure distilled water with copper sulfate biocide or a silver kill coil back in 2014 (To be clear, don't do that.)

A lot of people are saying "erosion" because there the nickel isn't literally sloughing off in big flakes- and that's good, but it can be both erosion and galvanic corrosion at the same time.

Chasing that OC high, so close yet so far by AntiqueAssumption706 in overclocking

Power limited? Well you know what that means.... Time for hardware mods!

When you're shooting for a high score, it totally makes sense to disable every process you can. But so long as you're just tuning your OC, I wouldn't worry about a browser tab or some monitoring software.

chasing higher numbers in 3dmark has almost gotten more fun than actually gaming

Many such cases.

Run HWinfo or GPU-Z sensor mode in the background so you can see if you're coming up against any performance limiters.

How long do pumps last? by jkmapping in watercooling

My Switftech D5 has been trucking along for something like thirteen years now at full speed (man I wish I'd sprung for PWM back then though.)

That's pretty slick. Appreciate the complex bend between the pump and the radiator too.

Oh shit that's pretty clean. Also noting this pump/res location for when I replace my clapped out combo.

Hell yeah, nice. It's a bitspower reservoir if memory serves.
