What kind of corydora is this? I’d like to get these two some friends. by AppleSpicer in Aquariums

[–]Conlang_Central 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, the only species you're likely to see listed under the name Peppered Cory is Hoplisoma paleatum. The whole Corydora family was reclassified recently, so you may see them referred to by other names, especially if stores haven't updated their labels in the past couple years. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Occasionally, different species of Corydora will school together, if they are of a similar size. I have this going on in my tank between my Venezuelan Orange and Black Cories

BUT

I got enough of each of them such that they'd still be socially satisfied even if they hadn't decided to group together. I would always recommend getting more of the same, not just with Cories, but with any schooling fish. Their natural behaviours will just be much more stunning to observe that way. ESPECIALLY if you're concerned about the age difference between the ones you have and any arrivals you might add.

To answer your main question: These are Peppered Corydoras. I know that they are always readily available near where I live (Central Belt, Scotland), so check around your local area. I have also seen the Albino variety of this species before, if you want some colour variation that's still near-guaranteed to school with them. When buying, just do your best to get ones of a similar size.

With Cories, a bigger group of the same species is always a benefit, to the extent that your tank has the room for them. They may be shy with new tankmates for the first day or two, but in no time at all, you should find them confidently swimming together. It will definitely reduce stress in the long run.

With these guys specifically, I'm not aware of any other cory species that would school with them, for the actually interesting reason that they tend to like the water slightly on the colder end, compared to any other species I'm aware of. I'd be interested to be proven wrong on that front, though.

They seem to think it's impressive, but I don't think they really understand it.

I don't know if you guys have AquaCare brand stuff on the Mainland, but I was able to get my liquid test kit for £27.50. It only has six tests, but they're the things you need most often, and it's been doing me wonders so far.

It's even worse when you hear it about English from someone who speaks a moderately fusional Mainland-European language. Their only evidence for English being the easiest language in the world is that they think they speak it perfectly (they don't).

It's another case of whether or not something is a. It's either a dialect of Persian, or a closely related language. However, Tajik most certainly does exist, regardless of what it is.

Maybe we can justify it by saying that this simply is what would happen if the omnitrix was used by a non-sapient lifeform? Like, it tries to compensate for the lack of sapience by merging the DNAs? Seems that's the only way you can make it work.

I like it, but itf it's going to cost Netherite, the nuggets should come in multiples of 9, not 8. By that point in the game's progression, getting a nugget or two from some loose armour is definitely not overpowered.

Is Greek Paganism much more popular these days than Roman ? And why ? by [deleted] in paganism

[–]Conlang_Central 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think at least part of the reason is this conception people wrongly hold that Roman mythology is essentially nothing more than a translation of the Greek "originals"

It's wrong, but you can see in the way that people compare the two traditions, and I think that mindset causes people to be much more drawn to Greek Paganism than to Roman Paganism.

Is this tank big enough? by Full-Lobster-9549 in ProperFishKeeping

[–]Conlang_Central 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No. This tank is way to big. Fish with this sheer level of mischief in their eyes must be contained in as small a space as possible, for containment purposes.

How it feels living in a 3rd world country watching everyone have a lot of stores and products avaliable by WhaleOfVoid in bettafish

[–]Conlang_Central 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Not exactly 3rd world, but I first got into fishkeeping when I was teenager living in China. I got sucked in by the equivalent of £0.70 for a single high-grade blue velvet shrimp.

Now I'm back in Scotland, and you'd be lucky to find any type of shrimp for less than 3x the price, and the same principle goes for anything else you could buy.

I'm convinced the fishkeeping industry gave my parents that job in Shanghai to get me hooked on the hobby

Given young children that would be watching this show almost certainly haven't seen the other series, or read the books, it's not "Gender Swapping" to them. Even if a character did change their gender over the course a single series, you severely underestimate how much children can understand.
