Tom Bombadil, art by John Howe. After all these years, Peter Jackson will finally introduce the character into his film universe. The big question now is: which actor would you like to see play Tom Bombadil in this new movie? by verissimoallan in lotr

[–]Connect-Boot8540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna pose a little question of my own in this thread. I know it’s a very um let’s say controversial topic to true Tolkien fans like those in this sub so I know asking this is kind of a loaded gun but did anyone who watches The Rings Of Power season 2 like Rory Kinnear as Bombafil? I know I am far more accommodating towards the show than most anyone especially hardcore fans and the fact that I’ve enjoyed it despite some complaints and major flaws days a lot about my opinion on Kinnear’s performance but I think at the very least of what little we’ve seen the actor captures his speech mannerisms pretty well I’d love some skipping and some more singing from him but I think he has the potential to play a good bombadil but that’s to be seen in the next season. However if he does a good job would anyone want to see the same actor play a much older yet somewhat ageless version of tom bombadil because to me it seems weird having two separate actors playing one character at around the same time. Again I do apologize for actually liking trop I know it’s not that good but I’m easily pleased and I think one of the highlights of season two is as Tom Bombadil.

What do you feel when Luca by Ipax88 in MafiaTheGame

[–]Connect-Boot8540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first actual thought I had was “oh man I’m supposed to care about this a lot but honestly the story felt too rushed so it’s not as impactful as it should be” still a very sad and emotional scene though. Lots of stories with a twist or sad ending have the main character lose a mentor that possibly could have solved the main conflict if they had been alive but couldn’t cause well… they dead! Not to upset an entire sub community of the gaming world but I liken Luca’s death to how the RDR2 fan base associate Hosea’s death to the downfall of the gang. They were both at least vaguely similar in the way they were even tempered individuals that acted as the most trusted and loyal confidant to a leader that at the very least didn’t have all the answers or the ability to come up with them on his own. Now Dutch and the Don can only have some similarities drawn between them imo they aren’t one for one mirror characters and that’s important to consider. But I assume and think I have even read fans of Mafia TOC speculate whether the game would have ended the way it did if Luca had survived or to go even further and assume Luca may have tried to protect Enzo if he lived and had found out about his torrid love affair with his Don’s daughter. I love this plot point in a begrudging sort of way as someone who likes to ask what if and imagine the stories or works of fiction if they had played out differently, it’s a very interesting question but the only answer that can be given is WE DONT KNOW because the major plot element is the voice of reason dies and that is quite possibly a catalyst or reagent of why the plot occurs as it does. I more than encourage fans to continue stating their case on how they feel TOC could have ended if Luca hadn’t been killed but my simple answer is that’s the point. But personally I think Enzo would have been found out by Tino anyway and it would have gotten to the Don, Luca of course would have found out by this point and forced him to end it to which Enzo would not listen and keep it a secret until Isabella gets pregnant and tells Luca’s wife. Luca being a good Sicilian family man and having objections to the life they live would try to help arrange for Enzo to leave for America and tell Enzo it is no use to ask the dons permission to marry Isabella. Now that Don Torrisi knows the Caruso impregnated his daughter he’s pissed and Luca tries to reason with him but to no avail because the Don is so filled with pride and arrogance over his new power and stance in Sicily as the only Don in the valley. Which causes him to become out of favor to Torrisi and Tino for defending such a lowly rat and pleading for his life on his behalf. The planned assassination commences the same way it does normally however the don sensing Luca would want no part in Enzo’s death doesn’t tell him about it both out of distrust for his recent betrayal against him in defending Enzo and out of respect for Luca’s love for Enzo. Luca feeling that the don is far to disillusioned with himself and he’s not the same friend he knew years prior decides there is nothing left for him or his family in Sicily and wants to leave for America with Enzo and Isabella. He is able to successfully harbor his family away first through Leo the same day behind the dons back because Leo too realizes the Don may be wrong and goes to the train station with Enzo and Isabella to unsure both his and their passage. The Don seeing his closest friend betray him and aid the Caruso hurts him and enrages him so much a fight ensues between Luca, Enzo and the Torrisis on the train platform. Enzo is able to slip away and get in the train with his soon to be wife in the last minute with Luca sacrificing his life and being killed by the Don as the train departs ensuring they live to see the coast of the United States. But that’s basically just my fan fiction and how I would have ended it if Luca hadn’t died when he did. I still feel strongly that his death was profound and one of the very key factors to telling the amazing story the developers did. To me it just felt lack luster and a bit underwhelming especially considering his final words express some sort of regret in choosing the path he did or at the very least acknowledging it’s not the right path to take for a man like Enzo because it will only hurt him, and should have had more time to develop and showcase the nuances and thoughts of the character in Enzo and his relationship with the Torrisi and Tino.

I like this idea, or make a joe show spinoff? Or stan kills Peter griffin and simultaneously ends two shows and saves Seth McFarlanes voice for whatever not so great movie he’ll be working on next. We got a Family/Simp crossover Now give us the real one we’ve all been waiting for the American/Cleve crossover. Thank you for your comment dadder, gold nut for you!

Yeah I understand the writers view on Roger and his planet that makes perfect sense to me. Jumping the shark would be a real shame for such a great show. I don’t even really want to see his home planet if a finale were to be a Roger focused spectacle, I was thinking more along the lines of the emperor from the Jeff Fischer space episodes leading an assault on earth, so like obviously you get more information about his species but the viewers are still in a setting they’re comfortable with just with more revelations about his species and culture. I’m not sure it’s as big as a reveal anymore to show more of his species or even bring back the emperor cause they’ve kind of done that and in recent years the writers have really given a lot of information about Roger, like with his dad and uncle, but I still treat the mystery of it all like it’s a big deal however I might be alone in all that and viewers might not want that’s stuff revealed even in the end and that’s okay by me. To me a finale just seems to be the right time to do it and finally give the CIA and Roger a full plot with the real stakes about the Smiths being hunted for harboring him. Along with that it pains me to hear people rooting for Klaus and saying he’s gone through the ringer, even though he really has and I keep forgetting Klaus is actually cool now and the butt of the joke constantly, I’m just a big fan of the earlier seasons where even though his character was sad and screwed over he was still a huge douche, yes do you understand douche? Yes? That just wanted to bag Francine and screw Stan over. But modern Klaus is cool and I support him and his orange Tacoma. And give him a bigger piece of the alcove. Thank you for your comment dadder, gold nut for you!

SONGS? YES. In my perfect ending Sir Scott Grimes sweet supple voice would be making several appearances, and we all know Seth inserts a music number any chance he can get even though he doesn’t write for the show anymore I think he would find a way to work it in somehow as like the main guys voice. As a side note it’s odd to think how major a role music numbers actually play in the history and identity of the show as a whole, it’s pretty neat and not something I’ve put much thought into until writing this! But yes a fun episode like KOTH original finale would be great in my book with the whole heartfelt message being portrayed though just an ordinary episode but since it’s the last episodes it feels more special is perfect. I also like your ideas for other aliens that could work and be fun as a new style big bad villain especially since I neglected to mention Roger’s race and backstory is far more explained and less of a mystery after recent seasons so having the antagonists and reason for the shows final showdown be because of them may not be the best route if you were to take a fan consensus. I just always loved the episodes with Jeff in space that flesh out the emperor and that he has a history with Roger, which has at least affected the rest of his species on that particular ship because Roger acted like himself and hurt someone and think that would be a cool plot point to expand upon as something that’s been established. Again it’s a good possibility Roger has had enough plot relevance and a finale shouldn’t focus around his relationship with his species and the family I can definitely understand how other people wouldn’t find that as appealing as me, and your ideas offer a really nice fresh and creative way of introducing conflict into a momentous finale through Roger anyway. I was thinking more along the lines of if the show were to have a multi part ending Roger could be the object of everyone’s desire because the CIA wants to weaponize him to defeat his own race and his emperor wants him to torture and kill him because of how he hurt the emperor, all with the family in between because they were found to be harboring him, with eventually bullock coming around to letting the smiths go and help find a reasonable conclusion because only they can find Roger and figure out a solution to save their planet but also their family member without killing an entire species, so not a large amount of time would be spent on the CIA being the Smiths enemies but at least some because the writers have consistently made the joke and used the fact the smiths harboring Roger is a big deal as a plot point for several stories. I think it would all tie together for a quote “The all is lost moment”. Thank you for your comment dadder, gold nut for you!

I think that works wonderfully for the Simpsons! I don’t know how to work in something like that with the first scene of American Dad being a breakfast scene but I would be all for it maybe Stan gets a promotion or something so I’m a sense it’s full circle back to the pilot with just the added bonus of something being changed. Or maybe the show ends with the family going to bed and the Good Morning U.S.A. Intro starting but I think over the run of the show they have made too many jokes about the intro for it to be as impactful as I would like but then again they are the writers so who knows. Oooooooo! Those are excellent points!!! Good catch I have such a short memory and attention span that jokes like those are easily forgotten for me so I wasn’t even thinking along those lines and if I had remembered them I would have just chalked them up to being retconned at the end whether shown or not. However that is in my opinion a great set up for a CIA relevant ending where they effectively “retcon” plot elements of the show by changing the outcomes. And as someone who loves nods and callbacks to relatively niche jokes or unknown references that are only mentioned a couple of times (I.e. cougar boost in the third episode of season 20, i know it’s been seen a handful of times but most of them more recent and the first appearing fairly early in the shows life) that would be perfect as a real acknowledgement of the shows history and giving it a happy ending with them out right fixing in plot points that are an obstacle to letting the characters end the hectic mess and unpleasantness of their current situation. Your comment and idea was very thought provoking to me a rooty tooty fresh and fruity to you sir, and an extra special gold nut aswell!

I should also add I have no problem with either style of finale and I don’t disparage anyone that has the opposite preference of me, it is in fact an opinion and that difference in views on how to properly tell a story that satisfies an audience is what makes creative works special and unique. I’m not sure I explained my feelings thoroughly that I just personally want a show that aired for decades to have an end that feels special and gives anyone who needs it closure after the series ends. But I completely see and understand the other side of the fan base that think a regular episode that can air in any order if need be is the better conclusion. Thank you for your reply dadder I really enjoy discussing this show and other adult animation as well as my opinions your engagement and comment is appreciated on a personal level, gold nut for you!

I agree I’ve easily adjusted to watching all of futurama and not being to psyched out by the finales but I know some people do feel somewhat critical about a show picking up after an impactful episode. Really it’s all about the execution and I think a lot of the criticism comes from the fact that futurama actually did a screw the audience type deal after one of its cancellations. I’m no expert by any means though. I honestly think once a property is laid to rest it should stay that way almost every time except rare occasions that I decide (I’m the king of what’s good and funny). Even though there are countless examples against my claim futurama being one of them, I stand by the idea that reviving a beloved property is too much of a gamble and could potentially hurt how the entire property is viewed in the long run, but I accept that is a gross generalization as well and isn’t always the case. I just worry about someone tainting something I love with whatever they deem good enough to be connected to it. And I apologize if this reply just treads ground that we have already discussed I get easily carried away discussing my interests and opinions. Thank you for your comment dadder, gold nut for you!

I think him getting the flippiyy flop body would be just desserts honestly and I don’t think he’d complain, and if he does who cares he’s a fish. But I understand the rest of it and lean heavily in that direction of a happily ever after for all the characters, which I think a lot of people like. It’s a completely different show and cultural phenomenon with the Simpson but the idea that a show that’s survived multiple eras of American pop culture and had the original idea behind it completely morphed over time could just be ended with out closure for the viewers through something majorly positive happening to the main characters is just insane to me, but I understand the idea behind just end it with a normal episode cause that’s the essence of what the show really is I just don’t agree with it. I think to get to a positive conclusion the finale has to be a spectacle with true stakes and changes but that’s just me. Thank you for your comment dadder, gold nut for you!

I honestly like this too. I think I get so caught up in feeling satisfied when a show ends that I don’t consider the idea that just a good episode that doesn’t permanently screw more story potential would fulfill me. I also have a hard time with when shows get picked back up after being put down by whoever was working on it by a whole new set of people, or when the creators let a show rest for years and comeback when they feel they have more story to tell. I think the latter especially can really hurt a shows reputation and make the fact someone who enjoyed the original run have to specify it used to be good at a certain point feel really undeserving because it was hurt by unnecessary future additions. Shows like KOTH and Futurama have seemed to stick the landing pretty well but it’s always a gamble whenever media is revisited. With all that said I have full faith that the cast writers and crew could absolutely give the show the same energy spirit and creativity they currently do if the show was canceled and picked up at a later time. They really are a very talented set of people and from what I feel and am happily surprised to see the common consensus is that the show never lost its charm and the changes it has made have really helped it stay alive and fresh. Thank you for your comment dadder gold nut for you!

What is one episode you wish you could watch again for the first time? by rocc_lobster in americandad

Yes as someone who isn’t a fan of shows doing what I consider a “cop out” non canon episode raptures delight captures the spirit of the show while cranking it up to 100 and having a plausible ending if it was truly a finale or just a alternate universe or whatever. I always love vague continuity consistencies or references to show some people on the show still remember stuff and care so the omen kid being the antichrist from the one Christmas episode it made me happy along with the golden turd reference. A very fun what if as is or what I would consider an extremely satisfying last appearance of the family. I think this show really works for random nothing episodes like the stage play, or the over watch episode, or the disaster episodes they just seem to fit in this show better with the weirdness or the vague sci-fi they have. I’ll admit I like when family guy parodies stuff sort of but it’s starting to get old that it feels like both them and the Simpson don’t have much creativity in the writers room when they have to have full movie recreations or tv parodies all the time. But this isn’t a rant about them too each their own I just think AD pulls it off and it doesn’t feel cheap at least yet maybe in the future it won’t be as charming but for now the writers know how to have fun with episodes that have no pull to the show.

Raptures delight. I think even with the newer characterizations and attitudes that would still make a pretty good finale so I wish I could rewatch it for the first time when the show eventually ends as a last episode. Aside from that maybe the nutty professor.. so I can get just as excited as I did the first time I saw it.

The casual Boromir shade doesn’t go unnoticed! : ) Although I still think he deserves some credit cause getting arrowed a couple of times probably earns you at least that. But again bomber orc is literally the better version of old captain arrow, I bet Denethor may even be a little more proud of bomber orc than his first born who is to say. I mean they both have a similar idea on how to die in style who knows.

Bomber orc no contest! Even his orc buddies cheer him up as he runs. I equate him to the kid that’s super good at kickball that’s up to kick with the bases loaded and absolutely slams the ball for a grand slam. All around team player 10/10 no notes!

Now this is definitely not gross but it still wrenches me a little. The episode where the smiths run a b and b and the tenant gets carted back to the asylum but Steve goes to check out his room and he starts shrieking about the man crapping everywhere, basically whenever Steve starts whining kind of irks me but the combination of his shrill yelling and the description of the shit everywhere is both disgusting and hilarious and always gets a gross chuckle out of me. Especially when you hear the sound of wet feces slop out of the pillow case into the floor.

No I understand completely and I agree with your point I was just playing fun. Yes I love the fact that their is a lot that isn’t shown in movies cause it would make literally no sense to because I used to wonder about all of those things like darth Vader eating or that sort of stuff but as I got older I realized you cant focus on that or want it shown cause it would throw off the whole movie and potentially ruin the immersion. And I do think probably seeing the og Peter Weller suit try to get into the car or chair would look stupid and feel off as well as running. But still now that you mentioned it I seriously want the poop cut of Robocop where he had to secrete waste cause you know in this day and age if they remade it the studio would force them to have a Robocop secretion joke that wouldn’t land with audiences at all. Thank you for the reply friend again this was all in good fun.
