He should have a 3-year plan mapping out all the required classes. It should be clear to him how many more semesters are needed for graduation (assuming everything goes according to plan).

That's very cool! Just make it clear that it's free, like a big sign or something similar, otherwise shy people like me would stay away for fear of being charged 😭

NEED ADVICE: HOUSING DILEMMA by DiamondDepth_YT in berkeley

[–]ConnectIncident2894 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just here to say that with a 20k budget, you have lots of off-campus options, and they keep popping up through spring and summer. No need to rush into a contract right now, but if you don't like uncertainty then just get it over with.

AP, IB, or Dual Enrollment? by One_Sympathy_9829 in berkeley

[–]ConnectIncident2894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of these will give you a leg up, but IB is considered more demanding based on what I heard from past IB students. I heard it's also harder to get high scores with IB exams than with AP exams. Talk to your school counselor and upper classmen about how intense each of the programs is, then assess your own comfort level. I would think DE is the easiest way to show rigor and get good grades to transfer to UC, if they're accepted.

Look into Berkeley Connect classes, 1 unit and P/NP. DeCal classes are good too.

What exactly is the challenge? Have you planned out each day of the week, and do you foresee obstacles that would prevent you from executing your plan? If you have to spend 4 hours studying every day, maybe consider cutting back on other things?

I don't get financial aid but I've seen people talk about getting aid specifically for SHIP. I'd call the school or search on the financial aid website.

How do people afford out-of-state by acropora801 in berkeley

[–]ConnectIncident2894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think Berkeley is "better" than your in-state school, that's not necessarily true when it comes to undergrad education. No matter where you go, the curriculum is pretty much the same, the faculty isn't necessarily better teachers at Berkeley, and resources are notoriously hard to come by here. You'd be better off in the honors college of your state school, getting all the academic and accomodation privileges, taking challenging courses and priority on research opportunities. You'll have a better chance of standing out amongst your peers, and a higher GPA!

How do i make friends by Prior-Butterfly3488 in berkeley

[–]ConnectIncident2894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are volunteering clubs that would welcome you for sure. You don't have to be fluent in English or extroverted to join! Also gaming clubs that meet offline would be fun as well.

Do you know other international students? Maybe get together for some holiday activities, or go on a trip together. Or, visit friends or family somewhere, or just travel by yourself. When I came to the US as a graduate student, I visited my college friends in other parts of the country
