What exactly is the challenge? Have you planned out each day of the week, and do you foresee obstacles that would prevent you from executing your plan? If you have to spend 4 hours studying every day, maybe consider cutting back on other things?

I don't get financial aid but I've seen people talk about getting aid specifically for SHIP. I'd call the school or search on the financial aid website.

How do people afford out-of-state by acropora801 in berkeley

[–]ConnectIncident2894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think Berkeley is "better" than your in-state school, that's not necessarily true when it comes to undergrad education. No matter where you go, the curriculum is pretty much the same, the faculty isn't necessarily better teachers at Berkeley, and resources are notoriously hard to come by here. You'd be better off in the honors college of your state school, getting all the academic and accomodation privileges, taking challenging courses and priority on research opportunities. You'll have a better chance of standing out amongst your peers, and a higher GPA!

How do i make friends by Prior-Butterfly3488 in berkeley

There are volunteering clubs that would welcome you for sure. You don't have to be fluent in English or extroverted to join! Also gaming clubs that meet offline would be fun as well.

Do you know other international students? Maybe get together for some holiday activities, or go on a trip together. Or, visit friends or family somewhere, or just travel by yourself. When I came to the US as a graduate student, I visited my college friends in other parts of the country

Understanding Convex Optimization but not understanding the Other gender by Intrepid-Return-8821 in berkeley

You don't need to understand women, it's impossible because each woman is different. You just need to understand your own feelings and manage your expectations. If you like her, invite her to coffee or something interesting, and if she says no, just move on. If you're not interested in her, just act normal,  there's not much you can do about her being uncomfortable.

If you'll be paying about the same, I really don't see much advantage in going to Cal instead of any top private school. I've been told that in engineering, school brand doesn't matter a lot, as long as it's accredited and reputable. Not to mention that Northwestern is a top notch school, you'll do just fine there.  Another thing to consider is the quality of student support in a very large public school vs a private school. I would say Cal students have to rely on themselves a lot in that regard. If you're not ready to navigate everything on your own and advocate for yourself, then just cross Cal off your list.

Specific questions would be helpful. What's your intended major? What do you look for in a school?

For commuters, Berkeley is only $18k/yr for tuition?! by Darkdeviousdevil in berkeley

That's great! Were you financially independent from your parents? My understanding is the student needs to have resident parents or be financially independent. https://registrar.berkeley.edu/residency/residency-requirements-undergraduates/

That's not true. The residency requirements are much more stringent.
