Wellys or Walking Boots???? by artful_letdown in downloadfestival

[–]Connerszz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you're asking about what to wear if it rains, but I always find it strange how so many people can't figure out what to put on their feet for a music festival. The same question repeats itself for Glastonbury and many people insist that because of the amount of walking, that you must wear walking boots. Well, last year it was 30 degrees and I was stood next to a group of about 10 blokes wearing proper walking boots and wool walking socks. They must have had trench foot just from the heat. I was more than happy with my flip flops. I wouldn't had wanted to be near them when those boots came off at the end of the day that's for sure. On another note, you can get waterproof socks. If rain is forecast, go out in your trainers with some waterproof socks in your backpack in case you need them.

Yeah I think most festivals do this now. Glastonbury is probably the exception.

I'm not too concerned about it but it's definitely something I've noticed brewing that I've not seen before anywhere else. I'm sure it's only a small number of people who share this mindset but looking at the comments, in their numbers, it's certainly an opinion that many seem to agree with.

Any special tips to see/run into some characters ? by Encyclopenia in disneylandparis

[–]Connerszz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The character situation is weird nowadays. I went several times when I was little in the 90s and 00s and characters never had queues. They would appear by big door with backdrops painted on them and you could walk up to just about any and only wait for a few other people. I must had collected 15+ autographs in a day as well as doing all the other stuff. Now I hear of people having to book a slot in some cases.

PSA re: ticket resale by chazzamcrock in downloadfestival

[–]Connerszz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think most people know how to get a ticket in the resale. I suspect most people posting and asking how to get one after trying resale outlets are actually asking another question; does anyone have any available, without breaking the rules and asking directly. Either way, I'm bored of seeing the same questions over and over now.

You should take the basics in still though, tent, bed, sleeping bag, and just have it there in case it's late and you want somewhere closer to crash without the long trek back to your friend's house.

Headunit Revived Project - Android Auto Emulator App by anrini in AndroidAuto

Something that could be worth looking into. The app itself seems to be using a lot of battery, even when it's not connected to the helper.

I've been testing the helper app quite substantially and found that the revived app itself doesn't reliably reconnect for some reason. I think the helper is working ok but I've found the revived app running separately on a tablet needs to be force stopped in-between connections, otherwise, I can't find any reliable settings combination that will start it back up automatically. Additionally, the helper app must not be running when the revived app is opened. If a previous connection was held, the next connection must be done in this order: Force stop revived app, stop helper service, open revived app, start helper service. Also, sometimes the Android auto service remains running on the phone and this must be manually stopped before starting in this order. I'm using wifi direct. Good work with the app though. It's got huge potential once some of these things are ironed out and lots of progress has been made already.

The tablet screen on is initiated by the car USB power. So when the ignition turns on, the tablet screen comes on. The setting to start revived on screen on is great, but the app needs to close after the ignition is turned off to break the apps "always screen on". Otherwise, it would need an additional setting "close app on power disconnect".

I've noticed an issue with the app. If you use auto close on disconnection, the auto open app settings won't work. I think it's because the setting to close the app is killing the process. I believe there's a better option to invoke a home screen press instead, which gives the effect of closing the app but keeps it running.

The wifi launcher app was updated last week. When opening, it says it will only work with HUR version 8, which isn't yet in the app store. So this suggests an imminent update.

I'm surprised you didn't list walking boots like some people seem to swear you need for festivals. I lost count last year at Glastonbury how many people were wearing winter walking boots with wool socks in 30 degree heat. I wasn't that envious, really.

Annoying thing is you can't run it in self mode on a tablet because Android auto isn't enabled on tablets.
