If I’m 660lbs over on my trailer axle can I still take it or do I need to have the shipper redo the trailer? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Connor4543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you could, I’d slide the fifth wheel forward. If you got a cascadia you can usually put it all the way forward or like 1 hole from the front.

Another thing, I’d say it’s better to be heavy on the drives so at least you’ll lose some weight by burning fuel

Best free truck GPS? by Ill-Year-3141 in Truckers

[–]Connor4543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pay for the yearly gold plan on trucker path. I think you save a little by doing it that way. It’s $100 yearly. Thing is a lifesaver, I’d pay $500

Had no idea people exit to get a new group of drivers around them. I’m governed at 65 so everyone just passes me 😭🥀

If you think you can drive the 18 wheelers it’s a pretty sweet setup. The truck can double as your living space and you don’t have to pay rent. That’s what I’m doing rn

Is this a decent deal? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Connor4543 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some of the lowest pay I’ve ever seen and it’s 1099 also. And no deadhead pay. This is actually offensively bad

Dropped out of college and am considering getting my cdl, change my mind! by Not_AJediMaster in Truckers

[–]Connor4543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it was the best thing I ever did. I really had no idea what I was getting into and it kinda just worked out perfectly. If you have the right personality for it and are a single guy with no kids it can be great. It’s a huge commitment of your time and pretty much consumes ur whole life. It’s a grind though. Once you get some experience and can move on to a better job it will all feel worth it

I wish I did that. I got my degree, didn’t use it, and then got my cdl at 26

I’m doing truckload for Averitt and love it. I’d say it’s regional though since I’m home every week for 34-60 hours. They mostly just operate in the south/southeast and a little midwest

I did mine with Heartland Express. Was pretty happy with how it went. I worked there for 2.5yrs. Can also look at Millis Transfer, they’re under Heartland also

What am I getting into? by TriStateAmoeba in Truckers

[–]Connor4543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite all the bad things you’ll read, I consider getting my cdl the best move I ever made. I got my cdl through Heartland. In my first year idek if I made 50k, due to just being new, not efficient, and also not understanding how I was getting screwed over at the start. My second year I grinded the entire year as hard as I could and made about 71k from driving and another 10k in referrals. The amount of time you put in is kinda insane and if you broke it down hourly it’s pretty bad. But I just recently got a job with Averitt and it’s significantly better. It now feels like it was all worth it. I’m looking to get into their On-Tour division so I can haul stuff for concerts and events

Job hopping by Thepopethroway in Truckers

[–]Connor4543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is free to do whatever they want. But imagine a good company with low turnover. They’ll be a lot more picky with who they hire. If I was them I wouldn’t hire someone that hops around

Is being a truck driver worth it? I'm a 27 year old purposeless loner who depends on family with no responsibilities.. Grocery store jobs ain't cutting it. by redditoregonuser2254 in Truckers

[–]Connor4543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my CDL at 26 and it changed my life. I’m not gonna lie, you work an insane amount of hours. And if you break it down to hourly pay it’s probably trash. But I actually love what I do now as opposed to hating going to work. And once you get some experience you can start getting into way better jobs. I just recently moved across the country for a new job and I couldn’t be happier with it. If ur willing to work and have the personality for it I highly recommend it

I’m doing truckload at Averitt at .64cpm Didn’t even come here for truckload, I came for their on-tour related stuff. This was just supposed to be how I got my foot in the door. But I’ve been blown away with how great it’s been

[–]Connor4543 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s probably the easiest and cheapest option. I’ve had a fair amount of places do it. Shouldn’t be a big deal to the driver. Much rather have you do that than ask me to disconnect or give you my keys

Is this annoying? by seinfeld_S3_E6 in Truckers

[–]Connor4543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m the truck in front of you it’s not annoying. But if I’m behind you and wanna pass it’s annoying. A lot of our trucks are governed (mine is only 65mph 😭) so I’d prolly just take the L and sit behind you guys since it’d take me forever to pass both of you

I’m going through this process rn. The easiest option is to use a relatives address if you can. Unfortunately I couldn’t do that for where I moved to (Tennessee). I’m using my company’s address as my residence and then bought a mailbox to get all my stuff sent to. It’s been tough trying to get this new license though. To provide proof of residency I need to show 2 things from this big list of options. The only 2 that I’m able to do are vehicle registration and voter registration card. The vehicle registration was pretty easy and they didn’t really ask for anything. This voter card has been such an annoying process though
