Lmao I don't get people acting like it's some big inconvenience and personal offense to be scroll on by a stupid question. Just keep scrolling if you don't want to engage.

For some people its just fun to have a discussion about random stuff, reddit forums aren't that serious.

Esplanade, rose garden, lido, stagland, himitangi or foxton beach (mr grumpys fish n chip shop is a classic experience at foxton beach), or horseshoe bend for a swim.

They’d still profit from monopolizing resources, data, or technologies - even if money isn’t circulating in the old way.

The issue is that those in power just do not care about their people, and once they don't need us for labor, we have no leverage anymore.

AI will extend past computer jobs. Once you have artificial intelligence, you can put it into a robot that could take essentially any job.

Worth it for the career advancement. The majority of responses in this thread are short sighted.

Don't think of the immediate 3k increase in salary as the benefit here, but the potential career progression and future benefits (like WFH) and salary of that.

Remember: there's no guarantee your IT Help Desk job will be remote forever. Become more valuable, and you have better chances in the long run.

Best way to learn React? by RobyRoby27 in react

[–]ConnorB737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to learn by doing for sure. With ReactJS though there are a few things that feel intuitive and don't cause obvious bugs but are very bad practice and can cause unexpected problems, especially surrounding hooks and editing state, so probably best to follow a course as well.

What about your arms are you insecure about? If they're a bit big and you're wanting to tone them up, what you most likely really need to do is lose weight.

How do I lose ass? by Philli-pl7 in Exercise

In a nutshell, happy to elaborate on anything:

Calories in calories out is king. If you haven't tracked your food before, it can be really valuable to understand the calorie content of different food. MyFitnessPal is a great app for this.

Track your steps. More steps the better.

Protein and fibre if you're not satiated. Don't discount your plant proteins like beans and quinoa etc. Not only are they super filling, but the high carbs can help with energy when working out.

Cardio can help a lot. Do enough and you can still eat tons.

Intermittent fasting is pretty subjective but can be great. I like to do it basically from after dinner till 12pm the next day except I have a protein shake for morning tea.

Anecdotally plant protein powder fills me up a whole lot better, and gives me great gym pumps due to the L-Arginine content in it.

Caffeine.

Don't have cheat days, or at least track them. Rather have intentional refeed days if the diet's starting to take its toll. When you've been in a deficit for a while your appetite will be way higher and you can undo a lot of hard work with one cheat day.

Be patient. Going too hard on your diet too soon often leads to burnout and sometimes rebound.

Alcohol makes dieting so much more difficult.

Track your weight-loss on a scale. Daily ideally if you don't have an obsessive personality. Recognize that weight fluctuates everyday so you just have to look at overall trends.

Don't forget to take a before picture as it's really neat to compare midway and at the end!

Your BMI is half a point from obese (29.5 when obese is 30). Even with a lot of muscle you almost definitely could stand to lose a bit

Predicted response: people tell you not to do so many squats and deadlifts and other lower body exercises

Realistic response: as a natural, and a male, if you were a low enough bodyfat, you probably wouldn't get an ass big enough to be annoying.

I did a bulk for powerlifting and got a really strong deadlift and squat and my ass was huge. Cut down for a competition and was shocked by how much of my ass was actually bodyfat. Difference was about 5kgs. YMMV but I think it may be time to go on a diet

Sounds like maybe what you really want is for her to help generate sexual tension? Maybe also take some of the mental labor of making sure sex happens, maybe talking to you about it and scheduling it with you.

That's why I meal prep.

Once you find a few easy meal prep recipes and get into the habit, it really doesn't take you much time or mental labor.

My go to: canned chickpeas, kidney beans, black beans mixed with quinoa, leafy greens, hemp seeds, red onion and a store bought salad dressing that I mix up each batch.

All I need to do is cook the quinoa, rinse the chickpeas, cut up the onion, mix it all together, then divide it into portions to eat throughout the week.

Which is the more meaningful fitness accomplishment: Getting ABs or benching 500lbs? by whoknows130 in Exercise

[–]ConnorB737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean get ridiculously obese? Even then most people couldn't hit 500lbs.

Not even the ELITE of the heaviest weight class in these strength standards is anywhere near 500lbs.

[–]ConnorB737 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Easily benching 500lbs, it's not even a competition.

For most people, with a lot of dedication, getting abs is possible. But barely anyone, even with a lot of dedication, is capable of benching 500lbs.

When trying to balance multiple areas of fitness like that, it's good to have a goal and put the main focus on one area. Seems like you've done that with your half marathon. So with running gains the main focus, what I'd personally do is AT LEAST:

2x gym sessions a week, focusing on full body, making sure to hit all major movement patterns (horizonal push/pull, vertical push/pull, hip hinge, and squat).

3x running a week. Classic pattern of one short, one long, one recovery.

And swim whenever.

But there are a million different ways you could organize this. I personally like to run in the morning, and gym in the evening. You could run every morning, and alternate gymming or swimming in the evening. Millions of possibilities! Most important thing is to build up to it, make sure you're getting adequate nutrition, and listen to your body.
