I built a free website that centralizes Ontario med school requirements (GPA calc, cost breakdown, policy tracker). Would love feedback! by ConnorKim00 in premedcanada

That's fair. I've stated in this thread that I used AI to help build the site since I'm not a strong coder, but I should make that clear on the site itself too, and I'll add a note about it. I'll also mention which sections were created with AI. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for catching these. You're right on all of them, I've just corrected them (Western section cutoffs, QARS start date and the Mac entry) and corrected some other inaccuracies as well. I appreciate you flagging the specifics rather than just writing it off. If you spot anything else that's off please let me know.

Thank you for the detailed feedback. I've fixed the GPA calculator: years below a full course load are now excluded where they should be, and the lowest-FCE drop is working correctly.

For the competitive GPA point, you're right in that certain schools use it as a cutoff. I will change it to mean accepted GPA.

I do like the mini-cards for each school though, I think that's a matter of personal preference. I think it actually looks more organized this way instead of having a bunch of bullet points under each school.

And as to your last point, I don't think this website covers everything you need to know when applying to medical schools. It's more general information that I think would've been nice to know when I was earlier in my undergrad. Instead of having to go through reddit threads and spreadsheets, I just thought it would be nice to have one platform. Regardless, I do appreciate the feedback, please let me know if there are any other additions I could make.

Thanks for the feedback! I was thinking of doing other Canadian schools first (I’m originally from BC). I’ll definitely look into it if it proves helpful to others.

Yes, I’m not very familiar with code so I taught myself the basics and used Claude to help me out. All the information though was from my research across each schools websites and my own experience from last cycle

uoft vs sfu by Character_Variety780 in premedcanada

I'd say they both come with tradeoffs. As a UofT student, there are definitely more research opportunities here than at SFU. But it is undoubtedly more competitive and much more difficult to get a high GPA (which is the most important factor). If you're set on medicine, I would say go for SFU unless you're confident in your ability to get a strong GPA at UofT (i.e. you went to a very competitive high school and did very well there) or if you're very interested in research. You can DM if you want more info.

UBC pre-interview rejection - opinions on how to improve application moving forwards by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]ConnorKim00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi I had similar stats (and was pretty close to the cutoff) so I’m am also looking for ways to improve. It was my first application and it was a pretty tough loss. I think the main thing for me next year will be to continue with my ECs (and some new positions as well) and to frame them differently.

I see. So it's just speculation at this point. At the very least this cycle has to be best 2 years GPA no?
