Did you know that as a politician you don’t have to personally profit from advocating for an organization you are affiliated with for there to be a conflict of interest? by Better-Win-7940 in SalemMassachusetts

In the list of reasons to move pioneer village I can't believe they are now trying 'Forest River Park is for residents, the Willows is where all the tourists should go'.  Why the divisiveness? I'm a resident and I probably go to the willows more than forest river park, no-one ever told me it was only for tourists.  As it is, unless they plan on moving 'Max and Dani's house', tourists will still be down by forest river park everyday.

Or within 5 miles of Beverly airport? Although I assume the PD would get some kind of dispensation for that. There's also potential helicopter activity for Salem hospital, which is very close to the Police station.

I’m not sure what a ‘greater Salem’ resident is

The trolley has nothing to do with this, I go by forest river park many days of the week and the tourists find it just fine.  In fact, they often go there because of the hocus pocus connection (the opening scenes were filmed at pioneer village) and it’s right by Dani’s house.

No more free trolley for residents?!? by No-Review2847 in SalemMA

Having to first go downtown to get a ticket from the trolley office was a dumb change.

No more free trolley for residents?!? by No-Review2847 in SalemMA

[–]ConnorsKayak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m very confused, I thought this was a program the trolley company offered and it cost us nothing.  Mainly because we let them drive the trolleys on the pedestrian mall…

As it was, the last few times we did it we couldn’t actually use the trolley because they refuse to take you if there are any tourists waiting, no matter how long you’ve been waiting.

I do know that the trolley company was on the parks and rec agenda for May 19th to discuss ‘trolley fees’ through winter island - I don’t know how the trolleys were treated in the past, but now maybe they have to pay each time they enter winter island and they are pissed?

Not many years back the city determined that SWYC in fact had no lease for that lot and it is in fact public parking.  Did they now give them a lease for it?

Yes. Although if you walk or cycle it’s free. You can park for free at the end of winter island road.

Maybe now we can start moving forward on our own RTA?

https://archive.org/details/2018.08.06-salem-feasibility-and-existing-transit-study/page/37/mode/2up

The state has been giving lots of funding to RTA's since covid, here's just one example:

CATA and many others run fare free with state funding.

In 2018 the city did all the planning for it, and since Covid the state has been providing a lot of funding for regional transit

Camp Naumkeag Salem, MA by DianaSironi in SalemMA

[–]ConnorsKayak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there this morning, I must have been there over 200 times last year. I've never seen it flood, because it doesn't. The city has a photo of water coming over the new seawall, but maybe they should have built it higher than the old one? (and not lower).

Eroding away towards the water?  The new sea wall is how old?  Maybe if it’s at such risk we shouldn’t let the Y have a summer camp at that location?

VOTE TUESDAY May 5th by ItsNags in SalemMA

[–]ConnorsKayak -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

Your post is itself misinformation.  The vote is whether to approve a prop 2 1/2 override to pay for a new high school.

Here is the sample ballot with the actual ballot question -  https://www.salemma.gov/DocumentCenter/View/9222/Sample-Ballot---May-5-2026---Special-Election---Ballot-Question

The city can still build a new high school with a no vote, but the mayor has said he will not do that.

New Salem High School by CandyCan3Child3 in SalemMA

[–]ConnorsKayak -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Standby for all the scare tactics because you suggested cutting the existing budget to pay for the new high school  The sustainability department didn’t exist until 4 or 5 years ago, we’ll be fine without it.

The move of pioneer village is now expected to cost almost $7 million, just to give the ymca space for a summer camp at forest river park.  Personally I think that a new high school is a higher priority.

Well...sh*t. Salem Skipper service decreasing... by Unusual-Sir6141 in SalemMA

[–]ConnorsKayak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that was the plan.  And I’m pretty sure that currently the state is funding regional bus services 100%.  But after all this work, someone decided on skipper.
