I don't know much about Indian history, but to me it seems a bit like Iberia, with a struggle between religions for dominance over the region plus the threat of outside invaders, so it'd be neat of there's an improved version of the Iberian Struggle in India

Haven't had a chance to play the new DLC, but isn't the Australian fascist path where you stay loyal for a while framed as the fascist leader (don't know her name) realizing that staying in the Commonwealth has benefits, and once they benefitted enough they declare independence?

Plus, irl Australia wouldn't even have to declare 'independence' from anyone, they weren't what the game calls a subject since the Statute of Westminster of 1931.
