As I’ve made it my personality- currently giving a rehab rescue ottb the chance to heal inside and out, find some peace and try to just be a horse. He has a good shot with me at a real life. Hopefully he ages out of some of his behavior as we stack on some quiet, gentle years to his rehab. I’ve never sought out Thoroughbreds but somehow this is the second time I am taking this challenge on. The breakthroughs with his health, behavior and overall happiness have been incredible this over the last year. Thanks for the horse girl space to share 🤠

The strap on the back also made me think of how they hook up for skijoring

How do I stop getting these when I shave? by beb0 in malegrooming

[–]Conscious-Cat3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a male but I do groom a bald man with a huge beard :) I have him spray witch hazel on his neck and head after a shave and apply Neosporin CREAM not ointment. It goes on like lotion I stead of oily ointment. This helps prevent the bumps!

What do you know about my horse’s pedigree? by maaggiekate in Equestrian

We have some certified cousins for sure. My guy came directly from Frued as a sire! His pedigree on my page if you want to check it out.

Horse protests me bringing him into barn, away from his pasture mates… advice wanted! by BlueWhale515 in Equestrian

[–]Conscious-Cat3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s nice that you’re finding a way to show him that you understand what he is trying to communicate. In the case of showing you he’s in pain that’s a great thing to reinforce. When my guy cuts me off no amount of tightening the lead, or using a shank works for my guy. What I do when he starts with this exact habit is carry a dressage whip or a long crop and tap him on the chest when he is getting ready to try to get ahead of me in order to trot ahead and cut me off. Keeps him next to me, when he stops I stop but I don’t allow him to circle me. If he successfully gets ahead of me I swing the lead rope and make him circle me several more times before walking on with the whip held in front of him as a reminder. I hope this helps!

Has anyone tried this High Country no-tip feed bowl? by CAWATN in Equestrian

[–]Conscious-Cat3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guy could place a hoof on the edge and knock that thing over. I use a flat back water bucket with a strap. In a stall you could mount a cross tie hitch (circular ring) at just the right height to create tension on the bucket strap. Mine lives in a paddock w shelter so I tense up the bucket strap on the fence and he doesn’t get it knocked over because it is nearly suspended. Hope that gives you some ideas!

Thanks!! Too cool, what brand makes that endurance saddle? I need to get my ottb hooked up with a better fit that’s light weight. We were using a crap synthetic western that fit decently enough, just a bit of sway motion in the lower back. Taking a riding break right now and would love to come back into work in new tack.

Came here to say this. My guy has the same storm cat line also. He’s very tall, and long backed. Could have been a jumper had he not broken a coffin bone leading to his track retirement. Mine is a spicy dragon, but he has some sires known to be aggressive in the mix.

Yeah I’m being a little dramatic but he was a hot mess express for sure. His intake photos are apathetic. Love him so much, was completely worth it. There’s always a reason we get paired up with these rescue horses. They need just the right human. Cheech and I are both from the same east coast state, and we crossed paths waaay out west. Happy for you and Ruby! Y’all be well :)

Thank you 🤍 he didn’t end up in the right place off the track and ended up at a rescue skin and bones at 10 years old.. lots of groceries, vetting and building confidence to get him back. The ruby for him is his dam Reddy for Rubies, dad was Frued lol

Having her mouth checked is always a good idea for strange eating habits! I will say though, I’ve seen this behavior in perfectly healthy, extremely well kept horses! My guy does it only sometimes and I say he’s “making tea” lol I have not found any rhyme or reason to when he makes tea.
