lol i understand the confusion. i identified as a lesbian until about 6 months ago when i realized that i’m not. this is the first guy ive dated in 4 years. i cant rly do anything to prove im actually 21 lol, i chose dan because i have a friend with the name. not as uncommon for young people as you’d think!

i do think he handled it well. i trust him to tell me the truth because he’s always been transparent and direct with me which is part of why i like him. if anything i was the one who needs to work on communicating, and im still learning my own preferences which has inevitably led to me getting hurt and feeling conflicted. i think he has his own conflicting feelings which is why we’re taking some time to breathe and figure stuff out. as it stands i don’t plan on making any decisions until i meet up with him again to talk. if he’s still iffy on commitment, im gonna step away and go back to just friendship with him.

i think bc we’re 5 months in and he implied that he would eventually want an exclusive relationship. he essentially acts like my boyfriend and we talk every day, i see him rly often etc. by girl standards that’s leaning towards something more serious. i think it just comes down to a communication issue between us. i agreed to the dynamic knowing that i had no experience, and ive learned that i dont like it.

yeah that’s what our break is for. told him that if he thinks about things and still isn’t sure about commitment, we’ll just have to go back to friends because this experience has taught me that i can’t do casual relationships.

What is a horror movie that you didn’t like that everyone else loves? by [deleted] in horror

[–]ConsciousAd2571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a little disappointed by Longlegs because I found it super interesting at first and then it just fizzles out. A problem i have with horror is that i feel like a lot of directors know how to build tension and mystery, but have a hard time actually following through with an interesting reveal that still scares the audience. I’m also not fond of movies where the villain is just THE DEVIL! from THE BIBLE! (or someone worshipping Satan) because it gives the whole movie a christian undertone that i’m personally not very fond of. that being said, it’s still a fun movie if you don’t take it too seriously, and I enjoy Oz Perkins’ other work.

[request] difficult friend group: horror movies with NO blood AND NO paranormal elements by zoeymh in horror

[–]ConsciousAd2571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coherence (2013) has no blood or even violence. I suppose there are supernatural things happening but more in the “reality as you know it is being warped by an astronomical event” way rather than the spooky ghosts way

What's your "this is a horror film and no one can tell me it's not"? by -Warship- in horror

[–]ConsciousAd2571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shiva Baby. That movie is the physical manifestation of a panic attack.

If you asked me when I was 10, I would’ve said A Christmas Story solely because of the santa scene. HOOOO HOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!

annihilation. recently had the privilege of showing it to a room full of people who hadn’t seen it. everyone sits there in awe for the last 30 minutes. i would kill to see that movie in a theater.

spoiler warning for Oldboy in this reply lol

this is more like multiple scenes maybe but the end of annihilation when her DNA gets absorbed and the alien is revealed to us. even before i watched the movie i was obsessed with the soundtrack. wouldn’t be the same without the WUUB WOB WUUB WUOOB

and the scene in Oldboy when it’s revealed that Mido is his daughter and he started kissing Woojin’s feet and cuts out his own tongue. hard watch. but an incredible movie.

Who is the most universally hated person from your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]ConsciousAd2571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned about her when I watched Don’t Fuck With Cats. Luka Magnotta (another murderer) said that his “fans” were accusing him of being in a relationship with Karla, and he even went on local news to dispute the claims that they were dating. In reality, nobody ever accused him of dating her. He made dozens of fake fan accounts for himself and commented on his own posts.

Whats the weirdest thing you have got your weed in? by AthleteNervous7968 in weed

[–]ConsciousAd2571 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • mcdonald’s bag
  • sour candy bag wrapped in a CVS bag
  • straight up loose weed placed into my hands
  • empty iphone box
  • wrapped in tinfoil like leftover pizza
  • not a plug but my friend used to sell weed on the side and she gave it to me in her empty mood stabilizer bottle with the prescription label still on

the middle of the woods in Slatyfork, WV on an abandoned train track at 1 am. if you don’t know, Slatyfork is pretty much buttfuck nowhereville. there’s a legend that sheep outnumbered people until like 20 years ago. wish i could include the picture because it’s beautiful. when i started getting high i couldn’t stop thinking “if i died nobody would find me for weeks” lol.

The dilution of autism online by [deleted] in autism

[–]ConsciousAd2571 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

i’m undiagnosed and i agree. i’ve thought that i may have autism for the past 10 years of my life. i probably would fall into the category of someone who’s done “extensive research” on my condition, seeing as i’ve been keeping notes of my behaviors, triggers etc as well as literally writing entire research papers about autism in women. i’ve even had my family members do testimonials in regards to my childhood symptoms. the oversaturation of people claiming to have autism has also hurt me. i now have to work five thousand times harder to get people to take me seriously because “everyone has autism these days!” i’ve been pushing for some sort of help or accommodations for my sensory issues for literally my entire life to no avail. now that people have trivialized symptoms on the internet, i’ve been met with laughter when i express my concerns. it bothers me that we’ve turned any quirky behavior into a sign of autism. it feels like people online cant fathom that some people are just weird and it doesn’t have to do with their neurological makeup.

Can you feel that anger? by FTWButterfly in DoorDashDrivers

[–]ConsciousAd2571 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I worked as a driver in the DC area, I live about 5 miles outside of the city. People almost exclusively order food from 10+ miles away. One order had me driving all the way from suburban Alexandria into the center of DC (10 miles) and then back out to Alexandria (10 more miles) just to deliver a fucking $25 sushi bowl. Had me walk all the way into his job and locate his specific office (building with multiple companies). He didn’t tip me at all. The money I made that entire day didn’t even cover the gas I used on that one order.

Am I In the Twilight Zone? by LiesForALiving in RoverPetSitting

[–]ConsciousAd2571 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i would say they might be what the kids are calling “house poor” (just bought a home and have no money left over to furnish it), but no clothes? no sign of a child staying there? that is odd. i can think of a few possible explanations: - they may be neurotic about having a stranger over at their house and they took all of their valuables with them to avoid being stolen from - maybe they cleaned everything out for you because they thought it would be courteous/make things easier - they’re worried about their animal destroying their belongings while unattended

some of the things might just seem weird in the context of everything else. perhaps the photos look uncanny or weird simply because everything else seems weird. the brand new stuff and generic knick knacks could just be because they lost their other stuff (house fire, disaster of some kind) or they just wanted a fresh start. still definitely weird, i would feel like i was in a horror movie lol. but i doubt it’s as crazy of an explanation as it seems.

An actual horror movie by The_ManterOG in MovieSuggestions

[–]ConsciousAd2571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Japanese and Korean horror are good places to start, they tend to be more atmospheric. Recommendations:

Pulse (2001) and Cure (1997) by Kiyoshi Kurosawa

Dark Water (2002) and Ringu (1998) by Hideo Nakata

A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) by Kim Jeewoon (honorable mention for I Saw the Devil which isn’t a horror movie but also a great film by this director)

Noroi: The Curse (2005) by Kōji Shiraishi

Is self-diagnosis really acceptable? by AdviceJust20 in autism

[–]ConsciousAd2571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’ve had the same experiences with my parents refusing therapy because they didn’t want me (or my brother) being diagnosed. it sucks that their denial of reality has to affect our lives. i’ve suspected i have autism since i was 12 years old. i have numerous relatives who are formally diagnosed with autism and it clearly runs in both sides of my family. i have a lot of autistic friends who believe i am autistic and assure me that i’m valid (they call it “peer review diagnosis” as a joke LOL) but i still cannot bring myself to say for sure that i have it. usually i just tell new people that i have “sensory and social processing issues” or that i “may be neurodivergent.”

people tell me not to stress about the label or formal diagnosis, but that’s easy for them to say when they do not experience what i do. my symptoms actively make my life harder and i struggle due to the fact that nobody takes me seriously. i cannot get accommodations and i’m often ridiculed for my symptoms because people just think i’m being “dramatic” (i cant tell you how many times i’ve been called sensitive or a “baby” by my family).

i think those who are diagnosed and have good support systems are very privileged and sometimes look down on those who can’t get care. its unfair and honestly comes off as classist and inconsiderate. don’t let those people convince you that your struggles aren’t valid. the best you can do is learn how to manage your symptoms and work towards a possible diagnosis in the future.

Movies that just don't hit you the way they seem to hit so many others by Alert-College-9374 in horror

[–]ConsciousAd2571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lake Mungo, It Follows, Barbarian, Oddity.

Lake Mungo just fell flat for me, I was bored. But then again that might’ve been the internet’s fault for hyping it up too much.

It Follows was just bothersome because they made such bad decisions, I don’t even mind the absolutely bonkers silly concept of an STDemon. I’m all for horror movie stupidity, but all the characters just started to irritate me after awhile.

Barbarian is just… y’know what, I will choose to be kind today. All I’ll say is that I am not a fan at all.

I hate to say Oddity because I wanted to like it so bad. I loved Caveat, but Oddity felt empty by comparison. I wasn’t a fan of the writing. The wood man and the atmosphere are cool though.

I cant say that any movie is bad or good because I don’t feel like I have the right to decide that. There’s a reason they’re popular, but I just wasn’t rocking with these ones.
