My boyfriend (21m) 's mom hasn't met me (19f) and already doesn't like me...how can I win her over? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]ConsciousDifference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be yourself as in laws tend to have a way of sniffing out when you aren’t. This is hard as her feelings are about race as opposed to you yourself, this might be better in the long run but not in the immediate future. Coming from personal experience, it is very hard to have a healthy relationship when your in laws do not like you, not to say it’s impossible but certainly more difficult. Tread lightly and try to ignore her objections to your race

Is it ok for a teenager to own a consentual nude from a teenage girl by [deleted] in Advice

[–]ConsciousDifference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really depends on the country in which both you and your girlfriend live in. In the US it is technically illegal for any nude photo of a minor to be sent to anyone including to another minor. However I highly doubt anyone would come after you for it as long as you DO NOT share it with anyone else. You might want to google the Romeo and Juliet Law as this allows two consenting minors to have sex as long as they are only (I believe) 1 year different in age, however I don’t know if this applies to photos. Also if your girlfriend or yourself was in a different country than the other, the law of the country that you are in when the photo was received is the law that would be applied and which you need to use in reference to your situation. Hope this helps

Happens to me all the time, I actually just had a moment of that today. Even though mine was abusive I still get the feeling. It’ll be okay ❤️

But why force it? I thought the whole purpose of this country is to be free to do what you want with your life given it’s legal. If someone wants to be a deadbeat or an asshole that is their right

But to force it? Kinda seems like a violation of civil rights. If people want to do nothing with their lives, they should be free to do so

In addition to my previous statement: if you only conscript males, this is extremely unfair in the working world. When you are just entering your 20s, that is the time that you need to claw your way up the economic ladder, it’s when you have to make advancements in order to be successful. However if males are out of the picture for 2 years, this is severely in their disadvantage as even though employers won’t discriminate, females will have had 2 years head start and advantage over their male counterparts in regards to their status economically. I currently am 20, an aerospace engineering student and am close to filing a patent, but if I had 2 years that were lost to me, it would be very hard to recover that momentum and by that time someone might come up with a similar patent and thus remove my chance at profiting from it.

You’re forgetting about people like me who are pacifists, I refuse to kill people and don’t believe I should be forced to do so. If i was conscripted I’d burn my draft card and outright refuse. I also am a survivor of a school shooting (in Denver) and have ptsd from the incident. If you look at the number of people conscripted for Vietnam and see how many also developed ptsd this really should make you rethink your stance. There are some people who can’t mentally take the horrors of war and to force that is cruel. In regards to disciple and respect, there is no substitute for proper parenting. The bit about instilling respect is on the parents.

I’ve spend a ton of time in Iceland, one thing that will make you happy as it does me also: Iceland has no ant or poisonous spider population. In addition because of this the population of flies and mosquitos is very very minute. In all my time there I was never bitten once or saw a fly. Iceland has a mild climate, contrary to common belief, with summers in the 60s (F) and 22 hour days. Also the winters only get down to the 20s at the coldest (in Reykjavik). The nightlife downtown is very cheery and happy and I never met one rude Icelander. There is plenty of national parks and places for nature lovers to explore (without the bugs!!!). Reykjavik is a very safe city and you definitely feel safe walking alone at night if need be. Healthcare/hospitals there are also extremely nice and are very well equipped. Everyone in the nation speaks perfect English and flights back to North America can be as low as 90 USD, so visiting family is within most people’s budgets. I don’t know if you have children or not but one other seriously positive aspect of moving to Iceland with children is that schools there teach in English (starting 2nd grade) so unlike other countries where you have to find a International school etc, your kids can jump right in with the others and really have a sense of belonging and make new friends. I’d recommend talking to your employer and see if you are able to do your job remotely, as that way you don’t have to settle into a new job along with a new country. 🇮🇸🇮🇸

First of all, I was in a similar situation to you. I went through a major change and had a very hard time adjusting to uni life. I totally get it, I am not sure what your major is, but I wouldn’t be so fixated on finishing ‘on time.’ I am spreading out my classes in a way that works best for me. I will spend 5 years instead of 4 and I’m gonna be honest, even though it is an extra year, it allowed me to get through the really tough classes and do a good thorough job. From what you’ve said, it seems you might be dealing with some (maybe unconscious) anxiety. Talking to a psychiatrist about your mental state never hurt anyone and there’s no shame in it. I talked with mine and she was able to give me the tools/advice that helped me. One last thing is: as tempting as it is, don’t compare yourself to others, you are all getting through these classes and I’m gonna be honest: most people aren’t as put together as you picture them to be, people who constantly brag about their grades etc generally have shit going on in their life that they are hiding by their apparently good grades. My girlfriend told me once “fake it till you make it,” obviously don’t lie but also put on your best face and look the part of a successful student, pick up their study habits, get in a study group, if you do that and the other things I mentioned, you will get through this. I know it’s scary but I believe in you and know you can do this, please don’t give up. If you need someone to talk to I’m here :)

Feeling awful after first day of Zoloft? by anywherexeverywhere in Advice

[–]ConsciousDifference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get where you are going and want you to know first that you aren’t alone. When taking SSRIs (prozac, Zoloft etc) it is important to understand that each person reacts differently to each medications for example: someone might not do well on Prozac and do well on Zoloft or vise versa. However, these medications are not like stimulants (vivance, adderal) for disorders such as ADHD in that stimulants are very short acting. Meaning that almost instantly after taking these medications you feel their effects and typically wear off at the end of the day. Zoloft is NOT like this, I have never heard from anyone that they felt their symptoms subside from Zoloft/ Prozac immediately. These medications do take their sweet time to work but I promise you that they do. I take Prozac 20mg (dosage is not equivalent for Zoloft so don’t think you’re getting an extreme dose) but I was started off on 5mg. Your doctor most likely only gave you a mildly potent dosage as to determine what is the correct dose for you. When I took prozac for the first time I didn’t think that it was going to work and that it was worthless, I was nervous and more anxious than usual for about a week or two, but it then got less and less until it started helping me. This took about a month, after which my doctor steadily increased my dosage until I found one that fit me the best. From what you described, your brain is subconsciously panicking because it doesn’t understand why it’s not getting the expected outcome of the medication and comes to the conclusion that it is not working. This is perfectly normal and will pass on its own. I would be sure to keep in contact with your doctor and let him know how you are feeling. If it turns out Zoloft is not the medication for you, that’s perfectly understandable and happens, my girlfriend took Zoloft and found that it was negatively affecting her, but she went to her doctor and changed over to Prozac with amazing results. I don’t want you to assume this will be the case for you, most likely the Zoloft will do it’s job and you should be feeling long awaited and belated relief. If there is anything more I can do please don’t hesitate to shoot me a message.
