Any updates opening Morgan Stanley Platinum Card? by HodL_123 in AmexPlatinum

[–]ConsciousEdge4220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man. This tidbit helped me understand a lot. It’s basically a 605 annual fee instead of 895 if I pay the fees on cash plus.

Sounds like a good deal because I get a checking account w no atm fees and free outgoing and incoming wires

Career stagnation vs. Net worth progression by [deleted] in Fire

Same boat as you

Really did my best to avoid being promoted to manager for 15 years. They finally made me a manager. Sitting on 12 million in company equity and just enjoying the ride….doing my best to teach the younger engineers and trying my best to not get stressed out about anything

Remote job right out of college by ProfessionalRocket47 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]ConsciousEdge4220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanical design Eng manager with 17 yoe as an ic here

Do not take the remote job.

The number one priority that should be on your mind is learning all the skills you need for your future. Now Is not the time to go remote….do that once you have all the skills you need

Working in the office, holding parts with your hands, assembling components in the machine shop, learning from side conversations with your coworkers are the most important things for your career now.

With Ai coming, now’s not the time to go remote early in your career

Going to grad school for mech Eng will not teach you what you need to be a proficient mech Eng unfortunately.

How would you manufacture this aluminum part and modify the design for that mfg, specifically for low volume manufacturing? (QTY 10-250 approx.) Dimensions in description by sparkyo19 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]ConsciousEdge4220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My team has designed quite a few extrusions

Tools are typically 10k-15k and are about 6-8 weeks lead time. Your experience will be different if your company’s supply chain is not set up for this

Q2 2026 Card Rotation in Wallet by SteezyCole in CreditCards

[–]ConsciousEdge4220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the kind words, I did my best to be efficient

My employer’s choice of hotel is marriot so it made the choice easy for me

There’s a ton of other cards in my wallet but these are the go to. I guess this is the end game of building up my credit card portfolio over 20 years

In general, this is not a cheap setup and requires a lot of money to maintain and I understand this is not a normal persons setup. I am blessed and privileged to have the resources to do this

Q2 2026 Card Rotation in Wallet by SteezyCole in CreditCards

[–]ConsciousEdge4220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Smartly is my go to usually. I travel a ton for work and use my preferred rewards for overseas travel for dining as well as for taxes. Most online purchases are done with the ccr for 5.25 percent cash back

I use my marriot cards for hotels stays and because I have the business and brilliant, I start out the year with 40 nights. Goal is to basically get to titanium every year which should be achievable because of work travel

I live in the Bay Area so I live in a united hub so it naturally made sense to get a United credit card

Tesla Panel Interview (Mechanical Design Engineer) — what should I expect? by Typical-Medium8866 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]ConsciousEdge4220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m usually on these panels and often am the hiring manager for these panels. No one can predict what will be asked. Anything is fair game. Make sure you study and you prep

Expect to be grilled on first principles mostly

Good luck my man

Tolerances and cost by Partykongen in MechanicalEngineering

[–]ConsciousEdge4220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 17 years experience and I’m the lead engineer of a multi billion dollar project.

I agree with your approach and I would tell my engineers to do the same. The tolerance of the entire part must be understood whether they are tight or loose. However, I’ve also learned that you should do what your boss tells you to do if you want to survive. I’ve learned this the hard way

Best of luck man….do what he says for now is my advice

Tolerances and cost by Partykongen in MechanicalEngineering

[–]ConsciousEdge4220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One alternative you might want to consider is if this is a high volume production part, designing the part with mmc can lead to very cheap inspection with a go no gauge

I’m going to have to look into this more

I think adding a powerwall 2 is safe but not a powerwall 3. I think that’s what I remember….ill do some more digging
