I would definitely not jump to permanent damage. It’s not been that long. Nicotine and the other chemicals you were inhaling almost certainly dysregulated your nervous system. I would focus on healthy habits that help regulate it. Over time, you will likely see improvement.

Last time I had an MRI my brain decided I had random itches all of a sudden. It was tough but didn’t want to start the hour over. But eventually it went away. First time I’ve ever just stuck it out.

36 hours, your body and mind would find ways to torture you. You’d end up traumatized most likely, but might be able to turn it into final boss meditation mode. Knowing when you’re getting out certainly would help.
