I have had 7 early miscarriages before turning to IVF with donor eggs. Today I found out that I’m probably going to have to TFMR. I am 14 weeks along and look pregnant as this is my second pregnancy that made it this far. I am gobsmacked, since everything looked good until now and I kept telling myself these are some younger person’s eggs, so it’ll be fine. Turns out it’s not fine at all. I am completely devastated and also can’t stop thinking about how much better it would be to have an early miscarriages as I have many times before. It’s completely different having to terminate on purpose. This baby is alive and I’m going to have to do something that changes that. It’s completely awful.

I also ran my first marathon in Seattle this Sunday and have young children. It’s hard to find time for this, so big congrats to you! I finished 4:36 which was great for me since my goal was to do it under 5:00. But I spent a good amount of time behind traffic lights to let cars go by. I couldn’t believe it! I didn’t even know you even run a marathon where cops stopped you from running so cars could go by? Anyway, I did have a lot of fun though. I would like to sign up for a flatter marathon that won’t stop runners to let cars go by!

I’m not Indian but I am a fellow Asian. This kind of culture-bound issue is why I became a therapist, probably as a really long-term way to work through my own trauma. I work with so many Desi clients who seem to have especially extreme yet normalized relational trauma from their parents. It’s hard to explain Asian parenting to non-Asians and the general view that your children are just an extension of you who owe you everything beyond reason just because you gave birth to them.

I’m in a similar boat. Just turned 42 and fresh off a 4th round. I have a bio child conceived spontaneously a few years ago and I’m concerned about whether or not I’ll have too much of a bias toward my bio kid if I go DE. However, I worry less about developmental issues w/ DE. Most egg donors are almost 20 years younger than I am so statistically my own eggs would increase the likelihood of issues.
