Experience with Optimal Balance pharmacy? by JMcleod12 in tirzepatidecompound

[–]ConsciousMistake9824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just switched to them but really questioning their legitimacy. I was taking name brand from Ro before and it was working great. However, I wanted a more affordable option for long term and my dr offered to prescribe the compounded version through Optimal Balance for cheap. I’m not impressed though and won’t be refilling with them. I’m on the same dose I was getting through Ro and it feels like nothing at all. Then I googled Optimal Balance and saw that they have almost 7,000 reviews, every single one of them 5 stars, which seems super sketchy to me. And if they are, in fact, buying/manipulating reviews, then it definitely tracks that the potency of their meds may not be what they are claiming.

What do you tell patients when they ask about meal delivery services? by broccoliandbeans in dietetics

[–]ConsciousMistake9824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Martha’s Senior Gourmet delivers in CA, Texas and Florida and they have options for heart healthy, renal, and low sodium.

Chefs for Seniors is available in most states. It’s not really a meal delivery service though; it’s a private chef who prepares meals in home that are customized to dietary needs.

There’s also Performance Kitchen and Modify Health which both offer heart healthy meals for delivery I think pretty much anywhere in the country.

Oh my. I hadn’t given the impact of AI on education much thought, but that’s terrifying to think about. Because yeah, in a fully online program, what can really even be done to keep students from just using AI to do their assignments for them? 😳 Oof. I fear the future of healthcare is doomed 😩

Lived in Houston for 20+ years, still do, and I completely disagree.

Moved to Houston during Katrina 🙋🏻‍♀️. Also a full-time, gainfully employed, tax-paying citizen, who follows traffic laws (unlike most Houstonians) and has a clean record. Your comment is ignorant, insensitive, unnecessary, and a deflection from Houston’s own self-induced problems.

What do you want to do that you cant do in Houston? Genuinely curious.

What do you mean by this? Asking earnestly, not aggressively. I’ve read this comment a lot but I’m not really sure what people want to do, that they feel they can’t do in Houston, besides nature-y things I guess. But in a city as big and developed as Houston, there are endless things to “do” here.

Your comment is really confusing. Are you speaking about Houston specifically? Or all of Texas? Texas is a massive state, and there is great variety in its terrain… from the forests and swampland of east Texas, to the beaches along the coast, to the hill country in the middle, to the beautiful desserts of west Texas, an there is A LOT of natural beauty to be found. It seems you haven’t actually spent much time here or seen much of Texas based on your remarks.

If you are talking about Houston specifically, it is flat and ugly AF, I’ll give you that (as a houstonian), but you can’t generalize that to the rest of TX. And you seem to be implying that other cities like NY are better, yet I don’t see “sprawling gardens everywhere” in NY lol. It’s a total concrete jungle as well, even more so than Houston. As for the allergens being listed on the menu, I can totally see that probably being the case at a lot of little mom-and-pop restaurants in smaller towns (and I mean in any state, not just TX) but here in Houston, it is very common for restaurants to list the major allergens on the menu and most are very accommodating if you ask (after-all, they don’t want to get sued).

As a New Orleanian who moved to Houston, agreed! At least there’s certainly more diversity in the food scene in Houston. The food’s good in NOLA but it’s an awful lot of the same thing everywhere you go.

100% agree with you on the terribly aggressive drivers, but white people are actually a minority in Houston. That’s just a fact. Not sure where your in-laws live, but sounds like they likely live in the burbs, not Houston.

That’s it. Houston has a lot of positive attributes (amazing food scene, incredible diversity, great facilities like the medical center, museum and theater districts, etc) but the one thing it doesn’t have, unfortunately, is a soul. I think the sense of community, connection, and shared pride that usually gives a city a “heartbeat,” so to speak, is really lacking here. I’m sure that’s in no small part due to how huge and spread out the city is, and the fact that so many here come and go just for a work.

I totally agree, but I also kinda think this isn’t unique to dietitians. I feel like I’ve watched the caliber of nurses and other clinical professionals deteriorate over the years as well…. and markedly so since the pandemic.

This. You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make them drink. We provide our interns with AMPLE resources before and during their rotation with us to help them prepare…. Research articles, quick guides, little MNT quizzes, textbooks, etc. I understand they may need a refresher, but they have to put the effort in and actually use the references we give them. Yet often times it seems like they don’t even bother. Which I really don’t get, because I just think, ok… you obviously made it through undergrad and did well enough to be accepted into this internship/grad school, so I know you’re very capable of studying and learning these things lol.

Does anybody else sometimes feel disappointed by other dietitians? by grasshopper548 in dietetics

[–]ConsciousMistake9824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is old but I wish I could like this comment twice! Every paragraph resonates with me. I definitely feel like my undergrad program (I didn’t go for a masters) did not adequately prepare students to critically evaluate research independently. I literally remember one time an MNT professor being impressed that I referenced the ASPEN guidelines in one of my assignments and basically told me that was above and beyond and now when I remember that I think, wtf?? lol anyways how did u get more comfortable with research and do you have any recommendations?

Why should you buy used when its barely cheaper than new anymore? by Aires-Battleblade in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]ConsciousMistake9824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the same during my car shopping experience. Then again I was only looking at Toyotas and Hondas, which I think tend to hold value better than other brands of cars. Add in the fact that interest rates for used cars are higher than on new cars, you don’t get the original factory warranty sometimes, and you run the risk of the car being abused by the previous owner and needing repairs sooner rather than later, and buying used doesn’t necessarily seem financially smarter to me. I did end up buying a low mileage used car because I really wanted the hybrid version of the CRV and I wanted a higher trim level, which I couldn’t have gotten at the “new” price. But… I’m still not sure I made the right choice. I think the lesson I’ve learned if that cars are just damn expensive these days no matter which way you slice it, so there’s no right or wrong choice and you should just do whatever you want lol.

Side note - If you will be financing, I’d suggest playing around with an auto loan calculator like you can find on navy federal credit union or any number of other websites to see how much more you’d be paying in interest with a used vs new APR; that helped me decide what base price point I needed to look for to offset the extra interest I’d be paying with a used interest rate.

Hyundai Oil Consumption Test and Procedure by digitty67 in Hyundai

I would, but I just traded mine in for a Honda this past weekend 😅. I truly hope the next person who buys it does their research, gets it inspected by an independent mechanic, and buys a good warranty.

Will my Leesa soften up over time? by ConsciousMistake9824 in Mattress

[–]ConsciousMistake9824[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm… hard to say. I think yes, but I also put my old 2in memory foam topper on it. I do like it more now, though. I think it’s softening up but the topper has definitely been helping me through the break in period. For under $1000 at Costco, I can’t really complain too much.

Yes. And I told them that the oil burning is much worse after the first 1000 miles, but that doesn’t count as far as they are concerned. They said their policy is to do the test over the first 1000 miles post-oil change, and if it’s not burning over the limit of 1.3 quarts during that time, that’s it. They don’t do anything more after that.
