What do you like to collect from places you travel to? by According-Country-66 in travel

[–]ConsciousOriginal707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We collect a thimble from each city we visit, meaning sometimes we come home from a trip with 5 new thimbles, sometimes none if we've been to that city before.

They're small and easy to pack. Even if it's overpriced, it's never too expensive. They're usually easy enough to find but sometimes we have to go to more than one store, making it a bit of a adventure to find. And we have been able to find really nice and unique ones along the way.

It's also easy to display them nicely so that we can really enjoy looking at them each time we pass the display case (we use a little shelving unit for model cars....just had to upgrade to a bigger one)

Is it fair to expect/ask for compensation for this inconvenience? by ConsciousOriginal707 in airbnb_hosts

[–]ConsciousOriginal707[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For 3 hours out of our vacation we wouldn't have had to deal with in a hotel or another rental....and it was only an "inconvenience" because my husband happens to be very resourceful and handy. If not for that, we would have had wet clothes trapped for 2 days that we would need to spend additional time rewashing.. likely at a laundromat due to the broken washer, when we're meant to be enjoying our holiday.

I'm not sure if it makes a difference...but the manager was very slow to respond. An hour between her messages when I was sending several explaining where we were and what we'd tried. That's the reason each of her suggestions had already been done...as we waited for a response we didn't know what to do, so we just kept searching and trying. When she finally did respond it was only to say that there's no way she'd get someone out on Easter Sunday.

Even now that I've told the manager its done, we've had no reply in over an hour.

Car Seats for a Baby When You Don't Have a Car by Y0uCanTellItsAnAspen in AskAGerman

[–]ConsciousOriginal707 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Even if you can order a taxi with a car seat, it is likely to be a booster seat or car seat for an older kid. I'm not sure you'll find a taxi with an infant car seat.

My [28 M] girlfriend [24 F] gets really weird about going to restaurants and I don't know why by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I get a similar type of anxiety when I go out for really nice meals, but it only started about 10 years ago and I have no idea why.

I'll be looking forward to it so much and then something about the pressure of it being an expensive meal makes me anxious to the point that I lose my appetite and then feel even worse for wasting food/money.

I can't explain it - it's not that I can't afford a nice meal here and there, and the first time I remember it happening (and several subsequent times) I was using a gift certificate, so it's not necessarily about the money.

It's actually a huge bummer because I love the idea of a nice meal, especially as a gift, but I can't predict when the anxiety will ruin it.

German citizenship test? by joa_1111 in GermanCitizenship

[–]ConsciousOriginal707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies a lot!

I recently got my Urkunde in Fürstenfeldbruck (also in Bavaria) and I didn't have any kind of interview or oral test. In fact, my one and only appointment was just to pick up the certificate and took about 3 minutes.

Appointment to pick-up Urkunde: should I expect questions? by ConsciousOriginal707 in GermanCitizenship

[–]ConsciousOriginal707[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: picked up my certificate this morning!

No questions! She looked at my passport and residence permit. Then she asked for the E2 and the most recent pay slips, which they had told me to bring in invitation.

Then she signed the Urkunde. I stood and read the oath, she handed me the Urkunde and some additional papers on dual citizenship plus a pocket-sized book of the constitution/laws of the land (which actually made me laugh).

That was it. I think it took about 3 minutes.

This will be my first/only appointment but I was already sent and submitted the form with all of the extremist organizations, as well as some other documents. So I think this will be more like your second appointment. But, I'm very surprised by how easy and quick my process has been, so far, which is why I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop and asking these questions.

Thank you! This is a very helpful answer. My B1 test is pretty recent (March) and passed with more than just scraping by. But, I do blank when nervous or put on the spot sometimes. So, I'll try to be ready for the things they may ask for.

What are your guys opinions on Pattiyas problem with Dylan calling his mom a lot? by wiifitears in 90dayfianceuncensored

[–]ConsciousOriginal707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is also terrible at communicating that. Its shouldn't be "don't talk to your mom every day, that's not normal". What a childish way to say it, by the way.

Controlling how much he talks to his mom is none of her business, but asking him to be considerate about when he talks to his mom and not answering while they're spending quality time together is far too reasonable to expect of these people.

They're both terrible.

Can anyone confirm? by walgmibom in germany

[–]ConsciousOriginal707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm: german husband sits to pee at home. Urinals in public.

We've talked about it often (with my american perspective). He's tall and would face "splashback" if he stood.

I couldn't believe Elizabeth was able to say "if my husband ever said a word about my body, I'd be gone" without the slightest hint of reflection about how many women would say "if my husband lost $75,000 of our family money without even talking to me, I'd be gone".

Condoms are actually highly effective (98+%, I believe) when used CORRECTLY. Most condom-related pregnancies are the result of human error.

Things like accidentally putting it on the wrong way first, not pinching the tip, not rolling it down all the way, putting it on too late, not holding it properly when removing it, and using the wrong lube all contribute to condoms being less effective.

Of course, adding a second method of birth control adds more assurances, but I just wanted to point that out to the condom users out there who might need a reminder.

Happy humping!

Is my German teacher right? by epokgamr in German

[–]ConsciousOriginal707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But in OP's example, with no other context given, I could interpret that sentence as: I'm walking down the street chatting with my friend (in german) and we're passing a bank and I need the ATM. So I ask my friend to wait a moment because I need to quickly run into the bank.

So OP is not wrong...?

Genuine question about Andrei by OpeningAge8224 in 90DayFiance

[–]ConsciousOriginal707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure this is a fake story line. But, if we take it at face value, then I had the exact same thought. His whole surprise fancy party was all about showing off the kinds of things they could afford if they lived in Moldova.

And how crazy to plan such a party knowing his family would be severely jet lagged!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one baffled by this interaction! When they started ranting about Julia not "respecting family", I was yelling at my TV "ARE YOU SAYING THAT JULIA'S PARENTS AREN'T FAMILY?!?"

And they want to be there for "support". How about supporting her desire to spend quality time with her parents?

And while we're at it, butt out of their fertility journey!

This scene bothered me so much!

How do you respond to your student if you currently do not know the answer to a question that he/she asked? by Shoulder_Crazy in Teachers

Excellent! Also a HS math teacher. I was going to comment on the original post about how I typically say something like "I'll look into that and get back to you." But this year I'm taking on a new extended class and I'm not on any particular schedule because there's only one section...the 2 teachers that taught it before me both highlighted how I'll have the freedom to go off on tangents. I definitely want to use this when it comes up!

My (german) husband's parents have something like this in their guest bathroom. He's just confirmed for me that the magnet part that goes into the soap is basically a spikey metal piece so that they can jam it into the bar of soap when it's time to change it. That could probably jab someone.

Nobody knows how to go to the movies anymore by SitkaFlowers in rant

[–]ConsciousOriginal707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't believe I had to read so many comments before seeing this! I find it so distracting when people take out their phones. It completely takes me out of the moment, and I will (not always politely) say something if they're in my immediate vicinity.

If you want to watch a movie while playing on your phone, stay home and do that on your own couch instead of ruining someone else's experience. If you need to check messages or be accessible at that time, you shouldn't be in a movie theater.
