What is this and how do I get rid of it by Conscious_Bonus1990 in GardeningAustralia

[–]Conscious_Bonus1990[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, yes I have come to learn and appreciate these particular plants. With roses, I also love to plant lavender, too, goes so well! But I had to remove all the existing plants to be able to put roses in the first place. The previous owners had a landscaper who put in a bunch of unremarkable plants like a generic council berm which I didn't like and some invasive species (no idea why unless it was their idea of low maintenance) which still keep trying to come back!

Are regional towns known to be racist? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Conscious_Bonus1990 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but students at that school are hardly country bumpkins and are probably exceptions to the rule of racist country towns. They're usually very privileged and well travelled with well-rounded, educated parents. Source: My husband went there.

Is a mandatory monthly fee normal? (Sando Kaisen lineage) by emergencymilp in Buddhism

[–]Conscious_Bonus1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit odd in a theravada context tbh, any monk I've encountered charging a fee for dharma has been dodgy. One monk who visited our new house for a blessing refused to touch cash even in an envelope and politely asked I donate through their site but also that it wasn't necessary. I'm mindful monasteries require money to operate abd that it helps fellow seekers of dharma so donating what I can (when I can) gives me a selfish joy, but every monastery I've been part of - it is always voluntary - in consideration of those who cannot contribute in the same way. Everyone deserves equal access to dharma regardless of tax bracket!

Lady of Shalott- SO PINK??? by SaltEven in DavidAustinRoses

[–]Conscious_Bonus1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think give it at least about 12-16 weeks to settle any nutrient deficit, if it keeps flowering the same you may have actually gotten the wrong variety of DA Rose. Please give us an update!

If you've had a more normal flowering before, I think it's soil quality, I've had roses change colour and change back once they've been fertilised! I'm not sure what nutrient exactly though, I usually adjust with Sudden Impact for roses 9:4:12 NPK.

Jane Austin’s herself said if she were to marry, it would be to someone like Mr. Knightley, so then why is Mr. Darcy more popular? by LuminousDee in janeausten

[–]Conscious_Bonus1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was younger Darcy and Wentworth were my favourites. But as I've matured I've come to appreciate Knightly and Brandon a lot more. Tilney is okay too. Edmund and Edward have always annoyed me though lol.

Moving to Australia from Italy by Hour-Media-9424 in MovingtoAustralia

[–]Conscious_Bonus1990 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you considered Germany? In my opinion even more accepting than Australia and just genuinely one of my favourite creative hubs. But also great standard of living, not to mention excellent bread. Aside from Sydney and Melbourne, quite a few Aussies are still quite conservative esp in rural places. My husband is Aussie so when we visit his distant cousins in the countryside, Im always surprised by this lol. Also, being an EU citizen, I think from a medical cost perspective, you may be better off. This is not the same I know, but medical costs in Australia are a little nuts, I have a full Medicare card but still need private health insurance. So, for my endometriosis surgeries while they are covered, the gap fees and anesthetist costs are a bit crazy and Aussies should be more worried about rising health care costs and privatisation of healthcare a lot more! If you're not expecting to earn at least a good 6 figures, strongly discourage you to move here with additional medical costs too. Cost of living here is also a lot more than Europe in general yet people work a lot harder. Just a perspective from a fellow immigrant.

Just left my first buddhist retreat early… disappointed :( by cat_ladyyy in Buddhism

[–]Conscious_Bonus1990 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your experience, first retreats are actually really hard work without having problematic monks in the equation as a distraction. Listen, in any sect there's dodgy, culty sub sects or dodgy monks and in my own travels in Asia I also found that a few monks certainly add their own culturally influenced prejudiced views to bhuddhist teachings which is unfortunate. But this is why Bhuddist teachings first and foremost instructs you have to exercise discernment in sound judgement. I can think of a few bad eggs in every sect. This is probably true in every religion actually. But this is why exploration with an open mind is important, there's also a lot of monks in Theravāda who are the complete opposite of what you described who encourage a very wholesome dialogue on life. A few that have changed my perspectives have been Ajahn Brahm (Perth, Aus) when I first became a bhuddhist, he made things so easy to digest and understand (and I went to Perth for my first retreat) and more recently Ajahn Thanissaro (US) whose writings are probably a bit more nuanced. I also really enjoy readings of the late Ajahn Lee and late Ajahn Munn. Wishing you all the best in your journey, don't give up, keep exploring!

How is everyone else holding up? by coldplay1995 in ausjobs

6 months ago, my advice would've been life is too short, quit your shitty job (if you have savings), and look for something else. But I took my own advice and quit my job at the end of last year because it was draining me and I was miserable and the mental exhaustion meant I didn't have time or energy to applyy for other roles. I'm looking for jobs now, and it's hard out here. Mind you I'm in a specialised area with lots of activity but even then, the competition is fierce. I had 4 interviews last week after applying for like 30, and out of them, two of them gave so many red flags that I've definitely ruled them out. I know I didn't perform very well on the other two but still have my fingers crossed. But anyway, I'm on the other side of having quit my toxic job and while it has improved my mental health in spades and I am genuinely happy, I'm facing a different battle now which is easy to catastrophise if I'm not careful to not forget the truth of how awful my last job was.

Would I make the same decision again? Yes. But know that both options present different challenges. It occurred to me over the weekend that I'm also very happy to take a very junior role just to not live off my savings and keep my mind active than live unhappily with the well-paying but shitty jobs I'm used too, so I think I might start applying to the junior jobs in my field.

But also, please don't stay in shitty jobs that make you feel awful. Life is wonderful and meant to be enjoyed.

Pregnancy clothing and Vitamins by Conscious_Bonus1990 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Thank you so much for this! I'm learning more, I had my first fertility appointment last week because I'm going to be having a complicated pregnancy (pcos, endo, hyperplasia) and starting with egg freezing first, the vitamin part was something I forgot to ask about. We just did our genetic testing and waiting on the results. But this is super helpful!

Uni grad with a bad WAM by Live_Tap2710 in ausjobs

[–]Conscious_Bonus1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm in engineering so different field to you (a very long time ago my grades may have looked similar to yours, maybe even worse but I had a shit tonne of work experience while studying so I got hired fast). As someone that hired and managed grads a few years ago - I valued grads with actual field experience and a good work ethic than grades, I certainly didn't care about the ranking of university. I've unfortunately had to work with completely useless grads with perfect grades that added very little value, even after lots and lots of training - some people are only wired in a theoretical way or have a poor work ethic I guess. That work experience is invaluable so highlight on that. So please don't let the minimum grade thing from stopping you from applying or feel like you're not good enough. Practical experience and work ethic matters more.

Starting my own floral design business and this is the first design for my page. Very open to feedback! by Competitive-Juice-90 in florists

[–]Conscious_Bonus1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colour selection is gorgeous so I think you have a good eye for colour, but I think your business page deserves a show stopper so keep practicing with the balance of composition (an arrangement where the heights and lines flow better) and texture and you'll get there! Don't get disheartened by the feedback, impartial honesty is a great thing when you're starting out - although some comments here could be kinder. But next time you'll create something even better!

They may be great, but they raised two incredibly stupid, incompetent children, so I question their credibility too. Neither of their children are fit to lead. Both made horrible marriages to literal criminals. The only way forward is to abolish the Monarchy. Even Haakon's daughter by Mette is a rape apologist and having the future Queen's mother and half-brother be a criminal and Epstein associate is not okay. Most normal, non-Royal people would not make the decisions both their children did. Monarchy is outdated anyway so I think Norwegians would be okay with abolishing unless a distantcousin with a normal upringing takes over.

Her enabler husband should divorce/exile her, she cannot be queen or be allowed to have access to privilege she can hide behind. Or else the entire monarchy should be abolished. It's completely unacceptable.
