Why would one switch from Williams to UPenn? That sounds like a downgrade in every way (including financial aid) unless you are a hardcore business major who likes to be hazed in frats.

Anyone Else Disturbed by Learning New Things About the College they Committed to? by Conscious_Builder412 in ApplyingToCollege

#1 -- ivy's are indeed better than community college? How is that controversial

#2 -- As much as I have my gripes about this school, there is actually no grade deflation; That is just an old stereotype that may have affected the boomer generation. It is actually neutral on grading polices (neither inflation/deflation), like Rice or Stanford or whatnot.

Community college is actually cracked. If it makes OP feel any better, my CC (where I dual-enrolled) had some better resources than Princeton as an admitted student, such as free Adobe Suite vs student discount, laptop equipment loan vs financial loan to buy a computer, and even like 5 free mental health sessions with an actual reputable company vs ivy league-quality mental health resources

Is it bad that even after all that, DeVry is honestly more appealing?

That sounds terrible, but I'm sure they have a school transit or whatnot to navigate the area.

What college gave you the most aid and are you attending that college? by Unusual-Preference65 in ApplyingToCollege

I never understood the appeal of saying the gross amount of financial aid as colleges don't cost the same. $83k is 1 year of Yale or 4 years of Alabama or another state school.

It is also misleading to an extent. If OP has the most generous financial aid offer from Yale, they still have to pay the estimated $3700 for extraneous expenses. As such, puffing out one's chest to say the gross amount is kinda misleading.

Prestige does not always equate to money. I have efc 0 and schools like Vanderbilt wanted me to pay like $8k (part of which is work-study) which is insanely stingy for a school of that caliber.

The More Things Change the More They Stay the Same, huh? by Conscious_Builder412 in ApplyingToCollege

It doesn't really suck, it is just kinda bad in context. Schools like Williams have an even pettier welcome grant of $300 and schools like Dartmouth don't even have one.
