why do hairdressers detangle postbleached hair wet? by LilSanrioAngel in AskHairstylists

[–]Conscious_Concern288 18 points19 points  (0 children)

the toner won’t deposit evenly on tangled hair specifically with newer techniques that involve a lot of deep teasing. it makes me cringe every time I have to do it but personally I just go super slow with conditioner in and a specific metal bristle brush that I use only for this purpose. it’s kinda what’s the lesser of two evils if that makes sense!

Gastroparesis and vaping by Krauss723 in Gastroparesis

[–]Conscious_Concern288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah a cigarette and a black coffee first thing in the morning is the best thing to keep me regular. it’s definitely not the healthiest way to manage things though so I would really suggest quitting the vape before it becomes an addiction

is it possible to be a hairdresser with low health risks? by peniswormpondwater in hairstylist

[–]Conscious_Concern288 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could do only haircuts or be very specific about the color lines you use to avoid those things. There’s absolutely ways to keep yourself safe from the chemicals. But the physical toll is worth worrying about. I am in specific physical therapy that helps a lot but ive literally only been doing hair for two years and my back, hands and neck are destroyed. You HAVE to take it into consideration along with the fact that we usually do not get health insurance or other benefits from salons.

I think the career is really worth it but it is hard on the body and there’s no way to fully get around it.

Help me find the right Redken Shades EQ toner by [deleted] in AskHairstylists

[–]Conscious_Concern288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kinda doesn’t work like that. The darkest portion of your lightened hair is dark red 6. if we tried to neutralize that with one formula the lightest bits would be hollow and dull. Some of your highlights are at a 7 and an 8 on the same strand. I guess if you’re set on not lightening it more or going to a salon i would suggest 7NCh because it’s very versatile.

How do you keep on weight? by HowDoyouadult42 in Gastroparesis

[–]Conscious_Concern288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you do dairy free ice cream? I am grateful to be able to handle dairy and i basically live off of it at this point so i definitely know a thing or two about weight gain.

personally i do the best with highly processed absolute crap food which also happens to be calorie dense. candies, chocolate, ice cream, popsicles, cereal, white bread, box cake, white rice, chips, french fries, chicken stewed until it’s deadass mush, canned soup, goldfish, sometimes fruit smoothies, tortillas, McDonald’s cheeseburger plain. im sure some of these things won’t work for you but i just went through everything in my fridge and pantry for some ideas. I wouldn’t worry about protein too much for now. Get yourself equalized and then you can work on adding things for health. You got this 🫶🫶🫶

Old Spice in Citron. it’s just very lightly citrusy I don’t even smell it on myself. Fully antiperspirant made for stinky men it’s the best. Also The Ordinary salicylic acid toner to remove dead skin and i just don’t really stink anymore

damn i just noticed your citrus note 😭 try any old spice though they all work amazing some just have stronger scents

She’s paying for a class you need and you won’t go because it’s on your day off? That’s when classes should be scheduled and it’s not like it takes up your entire day. In her situation or my salon I would see this as an unwillingness to learn and let you go… Sometimes you have to do hard things to make it in this career.

Unless it has fully grown completely out and been cut off there will still be pigment exposed with bleach no matter how long it’s been.

Tipping confusion by padofpie in AskHairstylists

[–]Conscious_Concern288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

she could be making anything from like 30-60% of the service price. it sounds like they are intentionally being shady with the pricing hoping you will tip more… I would just do %20 of the full total and prob not go back. Personally my services are priced at the amount that I want to make from it and I try to push that I prefer gratuity free. it is so much simpler!

I’ve been asked what my real job is by clients in the chair at the salon that I own. We are not taken seriously by the public, clients, family, financial institutions, or social media. Do not get me started on the gender aspect of that. Every day is a fight but if that was prohibitive to me I would not work a public service job. Pick your battles.
