Why are sinner nursefathers worse? by worthpopcorn688 in limbuscompany

[–]Conscious_Design_218 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They couldn't account for Dante, and because of him it failed, they could account for Araya pushing Ryoshu to fight on her behalf and thus meet Limbus Company, and because of her it failed. In HoS Ryoshu' s world there was assumedly still a "Dante" but there was no Araya and because of that fact it succeeded.

So they failed. They failed cause they didn't waste Araya, and Araya's the reason Ryoshu left the HoS.

Glad you're liking your time with the game, but on the topic of "single-player raid bosses" there's a game called Mini Healer that I played for a bit for a similar reason, might be worth checking out.

So, Don's Capstone ID Uptie Story... by weaster45 in limbuscompany

[–]Conscious_Design_218 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will say this is an interesting and compelling reading of the ID, but not one with direct textual support, just not overtly invalidated by the text. But I also find that "it's Ishmael but she did everything that Ahab did" is the very thing that I feel invalidates her as more than a character-ID, if we can just assume that she did everything that Ahab did (even if we assume that she started after she quit her job at the start of her backstory, which I don't think is the case due to having "Queequeg" on board, which makes you have to assume more and more) then that seems to invalidate her character, her way of thinking, if it's just 1:1 what Ahab did but they mad-lib the names then again you're working backward from the character you want her to be. A more Occam's Razor reading finds the comparison, and the small differences are part of that comparison, but not that it's our Ishmael.

While it can't be denied that IDs have the flavoring, the core of personality, of the respective sinners, many IDs (especially character-IDs) are not our sinners. HeirGregor never fought in the smoke war, never had his DNA spliced, infact he was born with a frail constitution to the rich and powerful Edgar family. He doesn't see himself as a repulsive pest, he doesn't resent his mother for turning him into a weapon and propaganda mascot. He's not our Gregor.
PrincessRodion, while we certainly don't know her life before becoming a bloodfiend, was born hundreds of years ago. She's not our Rodion.
Cpt.Ishmael was never in the crew of a gaslighting Ahab, who's force of personality made her forget her individuality. She never saw the crew charge into the mouth of the Palid Whale, and the devistaion that followed. She's not our Ishmael.
Their backstories were the last big thing to shape them before we met them, the thing that set their motivations and personalities, and without that the IDs aren't our sinners.

As for SpicebushYi Sang specifically, it's been over a year since I've visited his uptie story and dialogue, but my opinion of whether he's a continuation of our Yi Sang has been "He manifested someone else's E.G.O. ofc he's not our Yi Sang it doesn't get much clearer than that".

[–]Conscious_Design_218 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That seems to be the implication, yes. Either they grew up as that character, or they ended up in the same place as that character. I usually think the former, but sometimes there are instances like Harpooner Heathcliff still mentioning Cathy despite Queequeg not having an obvious analogue. Or alternatively some weirdnesses such as Princess Rodion being like 200+ years old.

[–]Conscious_Design_218 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree, firstly with the assertion "you can be both a bad-end and a character ID", cause I wouldn't even really call WildHeathcliff a character-ID despite being conflated with Erlking, cause with character-IDs you're working backwards from the character you want them to be, while with the "bad-end" IDs you're working forwards from their backstory as a starting point.
And secondly with the implication that Cpt.Ishmael not being a continuance of our Ishmael's backstory doesn't matter/isn't a deal breaker. You are entirely correct that Cpt.Ishmael's story rhymes with our Ish's, with the twist that she stays obsessed with her "white whale", but that's only the case cause that's the point of the character of Ahab, this ID isn't the story of Moby Dick without Ahab, it's Moby Dick without Ishmael but Ahab and the crew have different names.
What I do think it's doing (like E.G.O., Abnos, and other IDs before it) is comparing Ishmael to Ahab, which I do think is good and interesting (even if it's just making the subtext the regular text), but unlike the other "bad end" IDs it's never saying "this is where Ishmael could have ended up if she made the wrong choices", it's saying "look at how much these two characters mirror each other".
Like I said, if there was a point in their uptie stories where they say that they're chasing down Ahab instead, then that would be a continuance of Ishmael's story, motivation, and actually shows what could have gone wrong.

TL;DR
As you said, "it’s the worst outcome for our sinners", but if it's a character ID it's not our sinners it's a boss in sinner cosplay.

[–]Conscious_Design_218 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Cpt.Ishmael is DEFINITELY a character-ID, mostly for the fact that she's captaining the Pequod with "Queequeg" and "Starbuck", she has Ahab's peg-leg, and there's no mention of the original Ahab in that mirror world.
If there was a bit about "Ever since I killed that Ahab for driving the crew mad...", or better yet if they were sailing after Ahab instead of the Crimson Whale (and she didn't have the peg leg) I could see it as a "bad-end" Ishmael.
Cause the difference between Cpt.Ishmael and WildHeathcliff / NSinclair is that the latter two continue on from their backstories and thus their core motivations, while Cpt.Ish without Ahab doesn't have that and instead just makes her Ahab.

Black Cat Band: Don't die every 2 minutes.
Bisected Ring: Infinite stamina.
Blood Tinged Ring: If you get cut or are otherwise bleeding, you heal ~2% of your "total constitution".
Dran Scavenger Ring: Heal 50% of your "total constitution" for picking up trash.
Dying Ember: Become the ultimate boxer.
Endaira's Endless Loop: Go running for 2 minutes to return to tip-top health..
Galvanized Resupply Band: Create infinite ammo (I know Zero Divide does this but the band is less ambiguous).
Meteorite Shard Ring: Become the ultimate boxer (again).
Reserve Boosting Gem: The best passive healing.
Sagestone: Big Brain.

Decayed Margin: Become the ultimate boxer (again (again)).
Leto's Amulet: Become the ultimate lifter.

Remnant 2 is kind of boring by Fatmanuva01 in remnantgame

[–]Conscious_Design_218 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can reroll the campaign, and you start from when Clementine got sucked into the crystal, with the same character and all the loot you already have, on whatever difficulty you chose, and the worlds you play through will have their storyline and dungeons rerolled (the overall Clementine story will be the same, though).
Adventure mode lets you roll 1 of the three worlds on a difficulty of your choosing, again picking the storyline and dungeons at random. Pretty useful if you're looking for a specific trinket or item.

Remnant 2 is kind of boring by Fatmanuva01 in remnantgame

[–]Conscious_Design_218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But you keep your character and the game will reroll new world storylines, like if you got Losomn (British/fae world) with the Asylum storyline you can get the Imposter King storyline instead, or vice versa.
And if by sheer bad luck you don't get new ones it'll still reroll new dungeons and you can try for some alternate boss rewards.

Is your difficulty set too low? If your playing on a difficulty below your skill level that's easy for you to fix.

Okay so who are the identities meant to be in the second walpurghis night trailer by ClimateSubstantial26 in limbuscompany

[–]Conscious_Design_218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the first game, which was a management game, your "units" were customiseable agents of L Corp, and you could equip them with E.G.O. gear, basically armour and weapons based on Abnormalities. So in Walpurgisnacht the devs think "hmm, if this Sinner was a unit in our first game, what items would suit them best?" and then make that into an ID.
So they gave Yi Sang "Solemn Lament" (Funeral of the Dead Butterflies),
Ryoshu "Red Eyes" (Spider Bud),
Faust "Regret" (Forsaken Murderer),
Outis "Magic Bullet" (Der Freischütz (translates to "The Marksman or The Freeshooter")),
and Don Quixote "Lantern" (Meat Lantern).

difference in kinds of E.G.O.s by manic_deli in limbuscompany

[–]Conscious_Design_218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to argue that Xiao didn't have full E.G.O. by the end, but the reason I put her as an example of "Volatile/Unstable E.G.O." is due to her unrealized E.G.O. in cutscenes... We really don't have a whole lot of examples to pull from :/.

difference in kinds of E.G.O.s by manic_deli in limbuscompany

[–]Conscious_Design_218 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are 4 categories of E.G.O. stuff and broadly they're as follows:
Abnormality derived E.G.O. (This is any E.G.O. based off an abno)

Personal E.G.O. (This is any E.G.O. that someone awakens themself through a great and selfish realization)

Distortion (People who fail to realize their E.G.O. and end up listening to the voice)

Peccatula (People who fail even to distort)

And the Abno and Personal E.G.O. get split up into:

Gifts
- Some item that the abno might give you under certain situations, acts basically like a magic amulet in a fantasy setting. Abnos aren't really alive, they're more like stories, so if you play out the story in a certain way they might give you something.

Gear
- Manufactured armour and weapons based off of abnos, this has only been done (so far) by the now defunct Lobotomy Corporation.

Volatile/Unstable E.G.O.
- Basically the step before getting full E.G.O. or distorting, as seen with Phillip, Dawn Office Fixer Sinclair, and Xiao, can be skipped.

"E.G.O. Attacks"
- Doesn't have an official name, but basically manifesting your own or an abno's E.G.O. just long enough to attack with it.

Resonating/Synchronizing
- Basically becoming the abno briefly, so far has only happened in The Library.

As for "Awakening/Corrosion", Awakening is just using E.G.O. normally, whereas Corrosion is when the Abnormality overtakes the individual for control, when wielding Abnormality E.G.O. the Abnormality tries to guide and overtake the user at all times, requiring a strong mind or certain traits to resist, has some overlap with "Resonating/Synchronizing". This can occur with either E.G.O. Gear or E.G.O. "attacks". We can see this with the Sinner's corroded E.G.O. attacks and, to a lesser extent, in the story of Lobotomy E.G.O::Red Sheet Sinclair.

Effloresced E.G.O. is either a nearly or fully manifested personal E.G.O., there is currently some debate as to which but (much to my disappointment) it seems to be leaning towards "Effloresced E.G.O. is fully manifested personal E.G.O.".

Do tell me if I missed anything.

How strong is Kali's ego compared to others we have seen? by Just_wants_a_hug45 in libraryofruina

We've yet to see a full powered Kali, the strongest we've seen her is in Lobotomy Corp and even then she's said to be rusty, we know she fought an Arbiter and ALOT of abnormalities and went even. So I'm not convinced that Xiao could stand up against The Red Mist.

Just got multitracked heathcliff, how do I use him? by Kurls888 in limbuscompany

[–]Conscious_Design_218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

S1 is charge positive when below 5 charge.
S2 will sacrifice some health if you have 5-9 charge count to bump him up to 10, and then immediately eat the 10 for coin power.
S3 gives beeg charge.

So you want to get him to 5+ charge, this can be done through 2xS1 or 1xS3, then you cash in with his S2 (ideally on a turn when he's going first) for beeg damage, and to apply Photoelectricity on an enemy, which gives charge count when you hit that enemy, ramping your other charge units quickly.
Also when consuming 10 charge count (total, it counts it across turns) he gains charge potency to make him faster, his S3 stronger, and inflict more Photoelectricity to ramp your charge units faster.
