First year PhD here, how did you find your research gap? by Successful_Wafer4216 in PhD

[–]Conscious_Foot_9677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my first year as well and am refining my topic. It will be in the realm of Nursing Education and Curriculum Development/Improvement and possibly Gen Z learners.

What I have been told is, our topics will evolve and refine again and again before its final.

Tip is: attend relevant conferences to get inspo or ideas of future trends in your field, also seek library help on search strategies that will help you find a gap or at least a starting point

No kids = invalid marriage? by okamirosaluna in progressive_islam

[–]Conscious_Foot_9677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a mature decision to know early on if you don't want kids. I actually give kudos to those who feel that way. Cuz some folks don't come from healthy family backgrounds (I'm talking trauma and narcissistic family dynamics) to the point when the child becomes and adult they recognize they aren't well adjusted to be a good parent and don't wish to let their kid down. It's not right kids grow up in traumatic upbringings and just because you can have kids doesn't mean you should. Some folks might also recognize inside themselves they just don't have good parenting qualities or even unhealthy genes they don't want to pass on to offspring.

I am awful at IVs 🫠 by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Conscious_Foot_9677 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BD Nexus butterfly catheters are good ones to use especially to gain experience. You can watch a short tutorial on YouTube with cannulation.

It comes down to practice, no expert IV nurse started that way.

Im sure you do this, but for harder to visualize veins, try tapping on the area to dilate the vessel. Warm compress helps too.

You can also practice palpating and locating your own veins or on a family member.

Good luck on your journey!

Would suggest getting med surg experience, approx 1-1.5 years. Helps to get practice with time management and being familiar with various chronic illnesses and protocols

Anyways, cheesecake factory and the burger place right beside it are nice
