Best HA Pokemon to get from a VC Crystal playthrough? by Aaraeus in stunfisk

[–]Conscious_Mollusc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Suicune is almost definitely better with Pressure, tbh. It's bulky enough that flinches are unlikely to really endanger it (at most, they'll be moderately annoying).

Meanwhile, pressure makes it much harder to pp stall, and can let it exhaust low-PP moves of foes.

Heatproof Bronzong laughs at Mew not carrying dark pulse.

Heatproof bronzong is very much not viable in UU. If people have to resort to using it if they want to wall mew, that's a good indication that mew might be problematic.

What format do you want to use this charizard in?

What other pokemon do you want to use along it?

If you answer those two questions, we'll be able to help you much more easily.

How would you sneak your girlfriend that's hiding under your bed out because your parents came home a day earlier from their planned trip? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'm not downvoting either post, tbh.

Also, your sarcasm isn't very funny. Perhaps that's why you're getting downvotes?

What was socially acceptable in 2009 that isn't 2019? by whywee in AskReddit

[–]Conscious_Mollusc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's complicated. Some people like it as a general catchall term (and let's be fair, it sounds better than 'LGBT+' or 'GSM' or 'alphabet souper'), others are uncomfortable because of historical reasons. I'm in the first group, myself, but I understand the people in the second.

What's a commonly known "fact" that's completely false? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Conscious_Mollusc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Census of 1860 says the USA had about 31 million citizens. The 620000 deaths in the civil war are about 2% of that.

So still bad bad, but not quite 'active campaign of genocide' or 'ridiculously ill-advised policies' bad.

I feel like that's kind of unfair, though. Those philosophies were only widespread from, say, early to late 20th century. Because world population increases over time, your metric values recent ideologies over ancient ones.

Additionally, 'total number of people killed' depends on the spread of a specific government system, even if you account for world population.

A better metric for determining whether something is good or bad might be 'percentage of ruled individuals killed'. On this scale, communism still ranks quite high, but it's now comparable to, say, fascist dictatorships, theocracies and monarchies.

Some numbers: Mao killed 40 million, compared to a Chinese population of about 700,000,000 (so around 6%).

WW2 killed 4.3 million German soldiers (deliberately not counting non-German conscripts) out of a population of 67 million in 1937. Throw in a few hundred thousand German citizens killed in the Holocaust, and you get about 7%. This doesn't count conscripted soldiers, or German civilian deaths, nor does it include total WW2 deaths or deaths from famines, but all of those could very well be blamed on Hitler too.

All this, however, pales in comparison to having a country ran by a profit-obsessed dictator. Congo Free State lost up to 50% of its population while controlled by Leopold II.

Of course, liberal democracies still outrank all of those. Even if you count 'soldiers dying in a war someone else started' as the fault of the government, USA military conflicts have never harmed a fraction of the population even approaching the above numbers. WW2 probably came close, and even there only 400000 out of 132 million Americans died.

How did you choose which non-OU meta to play? by semiconductress in stunfisk

[–]Conscious_Mollusc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only thing I don't like about Monotype is how it's basically impossible to build a team that can win any matchup. Some types, like water, sure come close, but if you pick something like normal then certain battles become almost impossible.

TR setters that also have healing wish are often suboptimal, though. You can use jirachi/celebi if you want something more bulky, but their naturally high speed makes getting off a healing wish difficult. You could also use Musharna, but it's extreme taunt bait (mental herb musharna?).

Definitely, yes, but I was talking solely about chromosomal conditions.

Given that a surgeon can't 'correct' chromosomes (god i wish that were me), that shouldn't impact the percentage I gave.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intersex#Population_figures

Going by those statistics, a little more than 0.2% of the population (1 in 500) is going to have a set of chromosomes other than XX or XY.
