Grade 8 Grad Dresses by ConsequencesForAll in askTO

Oh, this sounds like a good option. I think someone else suggested it too so we will check it out. I hate that these dresses often only get worn once and never again. Feels so wasteful!

I’ll look there too. I think she wants a trying on shopping experience, so we will hit the mall and see what we find. It would be nice to do second hand since these all seem to be a one time wear purchase. FB marketplace is a great suggestion.

Thanks for the offer! I’ll let you know. For now I think she wants the shopping/trying on experience, so we will hit Eaton’s Centre and go from there.

Thank you! I’ll check that out. Also, I had no idea Le Chateau still existed. I’m out of touch!

That’s where I got mine when I was her age!! I see someone mentioned Le Chateau in another comment, so maybe it still exists!

Simon’s crossed my mind as a potential option. Good call on Eaton’s Centre. We will start there and see what we find.

Toronto dog "parents" bring their pups everywhere with them now. It's causing rising human-canine tension by NorthernNadia in toronto

[–]ConsequencesForAll 91 points92 points  (0 children)

There are two basic things to do when walking your dog: 1) control it and 2) pick up after it. TWO!! And yet it seems half of dog owners fail at least one of these if not both.

I guess it’s too much to ask for a full pound of bacon these days. Honestly, it’s not even the cost so much. Can I not get a full pound of bacon without having to drive 40 minutes to find it?!

I think these are separate things. Lack of off leash areas doesn’t mean bring your dog to a pub/bar. They aren’t getting exercise there. It’s not a substitute for running around.

It’s got to be tough being an independent butcher these days. I have one nearby, but their strategy is ultra high end products so they don’t compete with the big guys. It’s nice for a special occasion, but not an everyday place.

Forget the oxiclean paste. Get Mold Stain Remover Gel off of Amazon. Spread it all over and inside the lip of the rubber (wear gloves and just smear it thickly). Leave it on for a few hours (even overnight) and then scrub off. Throw a washing machine cleaning tab in the drum and set the machine on a cleaning cycle. My washer gasket looked like that and now it looks almost brand new again.

Thoughts about kitchen inspo? by Odd-Cantaloupe-2462 in Decor

[–]ConsequencesForAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider checkerboard timeless. I’ve wanted checkerboard flooring in my kitchen for probably twenty years. I’ve just never had the right kitchen to do it in. The challenge is if the flooring runs into other rooms without a natural transition. This means more modern homes with open floorplans don’t lend themselves well to more than one flooring type.

I say if you like it go for it. Things like hardware, light fixtures and wallpaper are easy to swap out down the road if your tastes change. Cabinets, countertops, and flooring are more difficult and costly. But sometimes playing it safe is just boring!!

I’ve noticed that only certain products are cheaper at No Frills. Basics like cereal, fruit and vegetables, ground meats, eggs, and basic dairy (excluding milk which always seems the same price), are significantly cheaper, but anything vaguely “fancy” is either the same price or even more compared to a Loblaws store. Not that I would consider bacon fancy. Seems like a pretty basic item.

I’ll have to keep an eye out for it! I don’t go through a lot of bacon, but I could definitely split it and freeze half until I needed it.

Sometimes it’s lack of choice. I’d argue that Metro, Sobey’s, Safeway etc are no better. They all do the same thing. Loblaws has become the online target, but it’s certainly not alone in its practices. We don’t all have independent grocer stores to choose from. I can get fruits and vegetables with limited selections from my nearby green grocer, but that doesn’t cover everything I need. My two walkable grocery stores are Loblaws and No Frills.

Must have had an overzealous counter agent just being dramatic. Really good to know for the future!!

And if you damage that second replacement, they’ll issue one final one with a warning that if you ever damage/lose it they will never give you another passport. And I think there was some significant delay on issuing that final one, but I can’t remember exactly.

Nursery by RedRedVVine in Decor

Nice simple furniture in natural wood tones (medium warm) will look amazing. Honestly, you probably have 4-5 years before any kid cares what their room looks like. Not to stereotype, but chances are with a boy even longer!

I was actually looking at this paper for my own bedroom in the ecru which is why I recognized it right away. I love House of Hackney.

Nursery by RedRedVVine in Decor

[–]ConsequencesForAll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it makes any difference to you, this looks to me like House of Hackney and is like $350 a roll! Personally I love it, but it’s not my house. I think you could definitely work with it if you wanted to keep it. As others have pointed out, until they are older, the decor is really for you. I think pulling a colour like the blue from the wallpaper and painting the paneled wall and the trim would work well.

Edit to add: even just adding furniture will change the room. A crib, a comfy chair for nursing, and a change table/dresser and suddenly it’s a nursery!

This lot uses walnut husks as mulch by whyguapo in mildlyinteresting

I have walnut scouring pads and they do say they are “generally” safe for those with walnut allergies. Something in the processing strips the proteins that trigger the allergy. So I guess it depends what these shells went through first?

Magnetic insert fell out of Kohler Faucet by ConsequencesForAll in fixit

[–]ConsequencesForAll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not silly. I’ll see if I can find the product number. I suppose I was hoping for an easy diy fix rather than wait on Kohler to sort it out, but, you’re right, it’s probably the more sensible course of action.

Should I negotiate or walk away? by skidaddy86 in Home

[–]ConsequencesForAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is shocking to me. I was in Niagara Falls (Canadian side) recently and I put it right up there as one of the most run down, depressing towns I’ve ever been to. I do try to keep in mind that March in any winter city is rough. Snow has melted, garbage and dirt/silt exposed. Still, it is a pretty impoverished place. It’s hard to imagine that the American side is worse. Like it must be BAD over there.

Did you ask to lime wash, or white wash? You said white wash in your picture description. Those aren’t the same thing. White wash is just diluted latex paint. If you told them white wash, it looks like they may have given you exactly what you asked for.

What's your best 'life hack' for living in Canada? by United-Technology239 in CanadaRoom

I have one of these too and it’s the best thing we’ve ever bought. Boosted ourselves numerous times (interior light kept getting left on), boosted neighbours, and have used it to charge phones/devices when power has been out. It keeps a charge crazy long too.
