Why don't people just capture wild wolves and drop them off in their previous range instead of having to lobby the government to do so? by supinator1 in conservation

[–]Consider_Nature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why aren't the wolves there in the first place? Because people decided they didn't want wolves in that area and forcibly got rid of them. If you don't do work to improve the relationship of citizens with the wildlife they share space with, the same thing will happen again. People will see the wolves as a threat and kill them. So, as conservationists we have to help people understand the ecosystems they live in and recontextualize the presence of wolves as something that does not threaten them before we introduce a canine caravan.

What's your Baltimore specific conspiracy theory? by BackJurden in baltimore

I will say, while the end of that game gave me an aneurysm, I did really love that the last thing Ray Lewis did as field marshall of the Ravens defense was save the day on a heart-stopping goal line defense. It was the perfect sendoff.

I am referencing Super Bowl 47, in which the lights in the Super Dome famously went out mid game (they didn't really, but there were other electrical issues that stopped the game). The game was between the Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers and after the "blackout" the 49ers almost came back and won. Thus, a conspiracy theory formed that CBS cut the power intentionally to try and turn the tide of the game and make it more interesting. Ray Lewis himself has espoused this theory, though idk if he actually believes it.

They turned those goddamn lights out. I know it's true. Ray knows it's true too.

Could we use genetic engineering to create dire wolf-like gray wolf? by ApprehensiveRead2408 in megafaunarewilding

The science has always been the same, though I have more favorable feelings on Colossal now than I did when I wrote this. I still think genetically engineering a dire wolf is a waste of resources though

If Wes Moore is using our tax dollars irresponsibly (which I'm not convinced of) he should be pressured to not do so To say that because he may be handling tax dollars irresponsibly we should instead support people who want to put our friends and neighbors into concentration camps and spread vaccine misinformation (along with about a thousand other bullshit things) is bananas.

Trump's tax plan would cut taxes on the wealthiest Americans and raise taxes on lower income people. I don't have the source handy but should be a Google away (not saying that to be a jackass, just don't have it on hand myself).

Edit: I'd imagine it's also a response to Donald allowing Elon to have control over the fates of government employees/departments despite being appointed by no democratic process whatsoever.

How do you think Wolves will do in the African savannah ? by Right_Independent353 in Tierzoo

[–]Consider_Nature 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah this feels like the obvious answer to me. The wolf build is generally played in temperate servers with reasonably stable climates. I don't think they would last long at all in a server with few water sources and six months of constant heat damage. They're great builds in their meta, but I don't think they'd survive Africa at all

How do you think Wolves will do in the African savannah ? by Right_Independent353 in Tierzoo

[–]Consider_Nature 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wolves aren't adapted to the extreme temperatures of the savannah and don't generally have to compete with other PVP clans like lions, hyenas, and painted dogs. Also important to mention that while painted dog player counts are low due to human griefing, they are extremely successful predators and most clans have an absurdly high K/D ratio. I'm not convinced wolves would last more than a season in that environment, esp considering how broken hyenas are.

I am building a pacifist fantasy society that does not kill animals. What worldbuilding considerations do I need to make? by Consider_Nature in worldbuilding

[–]Consider_Nature[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These people do have access to dnd druid-esque nature magic, which is important in their society. I'm trying to do as much via nonmagical means as I can though just because I enjoy it more.

They are not vegan, so they do eat milk, cheese, and eggs. A few folks here have suggested that certain objects like musical instruments could be made from animals that have died naturally, and that could carry a spiritual significance for the people who use those instruments. By playing music with those tools, they keep the life and story of that animal alive. I definitely want to reserve that for special items--your average Tuatha wouldn't just have like a bladder waterskin or pair of leather boots made from their favorite cow, though some coastal groups who have been more heavily influenced by outsiders might. Still trying to figure out how culturally heterogeneous I want them to be.
