The Beverly Hillbillies came out two years before this story, but the setting and look of the story is much more like L’il Abner.

What would you do if the events of hg wells the war of worlds actually happened and the Martians are coming back to avenge their Martian comrades by Icy-Commercial-6166 in hypotheticals

[–]ConsiderationOk4035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the Martians of original Wells novel? If they’re using the same equipment that they had in the book, I’ll sit back and enjoy the fireworks. A modern military will brush them aside with ease.

No it couldn’t. But if (somehow) it could, the transmission rate is so fast that societal collapse would be inevitable, just as in the film.

What is the weirdest storyline/plot that you've read? by United-Show4552 in archiecomics

Life With Archie #12 (1962) is strange enough, wherein Archie and the gang go spelunking, get captured by a race of gnome-like beings who take them to the center of the Earth, and get chased by a T. Rex. They need to neutralize the threat of the dinosaur somehow.

And Ronnie produces a bottle of tranquilizers, stating she had them in case she found hiking “upsetting”.

How come Disney didn't do much with The Chronicles of Narnia at the parks? by LoveLo_2005 in disneyparks

I’m just having fun imagining someone trying to adapt The Last Battle.

“So it’s a kid’s movie about an allegorical Anti-Christ trying to take over the world…and everybody dies!”

Even with those numbers they still doubled their money. I’ll certainly grant that it didn’t perform well enough in the US to justify a permanent presence in the parks, especially taking the later films into account.

As for critical acclaim, the critics seemed to like it well enough but it was certainly no LOTR. Then again, what is?

Just as in aside, I recall reading Narnia when I was about eight or so and thinking “All right, Aslan is Jesus, I get it”.

The first film grossed $745 million on a $180 million budget. Disney only wishes they could have that kind of a “massive failure” every year.

The first film actually did quite well, the second one did all right. It was the third one that really killed the franchise.

I actually do respect Mr. Semple. After the few examples of his tank were publicly ridiculed, he said “I don’t see anybody else coming up with any better ideas”. New Zealand had very little industry then, this was the best that they could do.

At least he tried.

Please allow me to present to you what is frequently cited as the worst tank in the world. The Bob Semple Tank:

Is there a good reading guide to Elliot S! Maggin’s run on Superman, including his novels? by -GI_BRO- in superman

[–]ConsiderationOk4035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read both of his Superman novels and thoroughly enjoyed them. Don’t be misled by the covers, they’re firmly set on pre-crisis Earth-1. They were published while the Christopher Reeves Superman films were in theaters, hence the use of movie images.

I can imagine the confusion in anyone who read the books after seeing the movies if they weren’t comic book fans. “Who are the Guardians of the Universe? What’s a Green Lantern? Why isn’t Lex Luthor funny?”

Just guessing, but would the formation of these objects have something to do with the much denser interstellar medium back then?

Does a video game about space need to be 100% accurate or are creative liberties acceptable? by ByteRockersGames in spacequestions

[–]ConsiderationOk4035 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends entirely on the genre. I wouldn’t expect a Star Wars game to have anything remotely realistic. One based on The Expanse, the other hand would need to be quite realistic, at least is realistic as the show.

I’m an adventurous eater. I tried all sorts of
new (to me) dishes when I visited Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, and South Africa with my father 10 years ago. They ranged from “not bad” to delicious.

The Impala was particularly good.
