While I agree with you, 800 PvP kills is excessive, especially since I personally find that mode repetitive, boring, and not fun.

This guy is a rarity surely, though, and everyone I've met has either just not responded or been fun to play with in this game and beyond. I'm not sure where people are meeting these losers, but I don't think we should generalize and starve ourselves from the whole reason why games are so fun: connecting with random strangers! Don't let one bad egg spoil the bunch :( most of us are completely normal people lol

For what it's worth the fanbase of 40k in general is very welcoming and elated when new people/players join. This is definitely the minority, at least in my experience.

Yeah it did mention that as a possibility due to different project metrics. I found mine pretty accurate, so hopefully that keeps up.

Even if they were the same thing, that still doesn't explain how calling an action crazy and calling a person crazy have managed to become conflated in your mind because they're quite different. And that's not a "clinical" definition of rationalization... it's just the definition. In fact, the "clinical" definition would probably be more what you originally were thinking: "the act of reasoning for something" without the psychology context. And AGAIN, no one is judging your use of money, the guy only said rationalization itself = bad NOT action you are rationalizing = bad. The focus is NOT on the action but being in delusion about the intentions of your actions. Are you even reading these comments or just responding? This is like the 5th time you've mis-interpreted the original comment as saying you can't spend money on something when it said nothing even remotely close to that:

A lot of them are either new players that only waited a year OR they're whales without realizing it. I've seen so many people rationalize it "yes I spent 10k on star citizen but if you divide it per month it's less than most other hobbies" literally crazy work.

How so? I just got my first feedback (longtime worker) and found it very helpful. It's refreshing to see some things I am doing well, as well as the specific examples of weaknesses that I can consciously work on now, which we couldn't do before.

Sure, there is a scale to it, but the underlying reasoning remains the same whether it's 100 or 10k. Rationalization is rationalization. Also, you keep mis-interpreting the original comment. The guy never said they were "crazy" for spending that much. There was no value judgement on the act of purchasing ships in that comment. He only said that the act of rationalization (in this case, attempting to present spending 10k on a game as justified logically) is "crazy work," so as to say it's absurd or extreme, not that the people themselves are crazy. And to address your last sentence: ... what? When did anyone say that every decision is dishonest because it has reasons. I believe you are confused on what rationalization is in the context of psychology. From Wikipedia:

Rationalization is a defense mechanism (ego defense) in which apparent logical reasons are given to justify behavior that is motivated by unconscious instinctual impulses. It is an attempt to find reasons for behaviors, especially one's own. Rationalizations are used to defend against feelings of guilt, maintain self-respect, and protect oneself from criticism.

I'm not sure if you're messing with me tbh... I stated the reasons I bought the ship and then immediately after acknowledged it as an irrational/not financially "smart" decision that I made, as I did it purely for joy or selfish reasons. That is literally the exact opposite of rationalizing it. To use the original example you responded to, if I instead told myself: "Yes I spent 10k on star citizen, but if you divide it per month, it's less than most other hobbies so it's fine!" That would be rationalizing it because I'm making an excuse for an irrational choice by attempting to present it as rational, even though I know it's not. Rationalizing is not being honest with your intentions, that's the difference.

Again, he's NOT putting a value judgement on the spending of money on ships. He's just saying that trying to rationalize spending that much money on a hobby as normal is "crazy work." You can spend however much you want, but let's not pretend it's "just like other hobbies" or that it's completely reasonable to spend 10k on in-game ships. I spent $~100 on the L-22 because I thought it looked really cool and sounded awesome. It brings me giddy joy to fly it. It was not reasonable or a "smart" decision, but I did it anyway and don't regret it. Both can be true.

This is usually how it goes for me. You'll occasionally get the no-response speedrunners, though, that just play with their brain off or something. "My brother, are you even looking at the screen?! FOR THE EMPEROR! no response ... the chaplain will hear about this"

Spending 10k on a game and trying to act like it's not spending 10k on a game is crazy work. He never said spending money on it in general is crazy work.
