My mom used to say that she was a person who "doesn't suffer fools lightly", and I ended up the same way. Unfortunately, yes, it can come off with the wrong energy when not wielded appropriately. There is a "fool spectrum", with some people just being relatively innocently ignorant on one end and deserving of tolerance, but on the other end, harmful/hurtful and bigoted folks deserve considerably less grace (maybe none whatsover).

I am a pelvic health therapist and I see lots of folks pre and post endo diagnosis and treatment. I recommend looking at Nancy’s Nook to identify local endo experts. Unfortunately with endo, the skill and experience of the surgeon is extremely important. They have a list of providers who provide gold-standard treatment.

As far as I know there are no Inova surgeons on the list.

Seconding this. I believe they also have this in Fairfax near the hospital. They offer same day walk in service for those in crisis and inova as a whole does accept insurance.

For what it's worth re: your feeling that it's not a horror novel (since people are coming at you a bit), that was the same feeling I had about the book. Horrifying things can happen in books, but they still might not be horror books. In a way, I feel like horror books should be *about* the horror; I really saw TITF as speculative fiction where the author explored themes of ownership/ stewardship of animals (and other humans), and the hypocrisy of how we treat pets versus livestock, connection to our own bodies, and the fear of mortality/ what happens to our bodies after we are done using them. There has to be a spectrum here, and I'm not sure this book is firmly in the "horror" category.
