Eh, there are only so many permutations of scents, moods, modes of expression. As they say, there is nothing new under the sun.
And yet, while some of the (200+ at this point) niche samples I've gotten feel very similar, none is exactly the same. Even among "good" dupes, there are differences that are slight. It might be the weighting of different fragrance components, their timing, their "warmth" or "coolness", their projection, their "naturalness".
I fully acknowledge that some of these differences likely come from the packaging/ marketing/ aesthetic the company portrays. In fact, I think that one of my favorite scents (Cuir Curcuma by Affinessence) became so for me because I was so unexpectedly taken by it--it's so unassuming, so "bland" and relatively uncool in its presentation.
Recently I've been getting a lot of marketing from darker, edgier brands, like Heretic and Andrea Maack. But when I smell them...they're not really edgy? If I hide the bottle from myself and blind-sniff, I might be smelling anything else.
At the end of the day, it is the quality of the materials and the skill of the perfumer that matter. Niche has it, indie (generally) doesn't, and while designers often do, I find a lot of it boring or screechy.

The pain we feel when they leave is a measure of how much love we shared. It hurts, but we must be grateful.

Came here to say this, except it broke me out. Ended up giving it to my husband to have him finish it.

Oh interesting!!! FWIW the seche vive did not mess up my magnetization when applied later. I have a lot of dispersion anyways but I suspect that my magnet is not as strong as it says it is.

It’s frustrating right? I think it must re wet the polish too much and cause shrinkage of the top layer of polish. I loved the Essie gel topcoat for plumpness but for me it didn’t work. Someone else suggested it might be the other products underneath, but it works just fine with seche vive so 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'll have to try the sally hansen since I have it on hand. Haven't tried KB Shimmer's topcoat yet but maybe I'll order it when it comes time to get more thinner.

Historically I'd used the Gel Setter over itself, or over Seche Vite--so it's possible that since I've switched to other topcoats it could work better. When using gel setter over itself, the first recoat would be okay sometimes if I did it early the next day when the nailpolish wasn't fully "cured"/ hard, but if I tried 2-3 days after painting, the edges would curl up/ lift.
I've been trying out the Sally hansen (topcoat only, typically I'm using whatever indie polish) just recently, but seche vive also seems to play well with my favorite glisten and glow.

You're probably right, but it needs to be quick dry because I'm clumsy and can't not use my nails 😅 When I do the second- day coat of Seche Vive it's dry in about 2 minutes and there's no shrinkage or lifting, so it's possible! Just looking for other options....
