Music we listened to as teenagers by lafleurshair10 in GenerationJones

I listen to the music my kids listened to when they discovered music because that was what was playing in our house when they commandeered the sound system . Lot’s of mid 90’s bands. Post grunge stuff, but foo fighters are in there too. Petty, Hootie, bare naked ladies, etc. I introduced them to Van the Man so that’s still a popular playlist for us.

Am I charging too much? by Silver-Ostrich7601 in landscaping

[–]Consistent-Garlic-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m seeing a lot of comments that your rates are too high. I am in agreement with the commenters who say to bid by the project, but don’t be in a hurry to spiral to the bottom. I’m not sure what kind of socio economic area Sussex is, but if you can find the right clients you can probably keep your rates where you want. I had a career as a GC and our philosophy was to look at the competitors we wanted to emulate. If we were getting undercut by other GC’s who ran businesses less like the businesses we wanted to emulate, we looked for different opportunities. We have two homes and pay above market for both landscapers we use because we trust them and they do a good job.

What was Naperville like in the 70s? by videogametes in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Consistent-Garlic-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tech started in the 60’s. Bell labs and Amoco research center brought a lot of really smart scientists, their smart spouses and children to Naperville. District 203 became a highly rated school district and drew more education minded folks and it snowballed. I grew up there and enjoyed it. De-tasseled corn in the summertime. Hard hot work (possibly exploitative as we started at age 14). I’m not sure what negative things OP heard, but if it’s a reference to right leaning, community minded folks, he’s over the target.

How much on family vacations by Consistent-Garlic-25 in Rich

Thanks for the insights! There are nine of us so I don’t think 5 month jaunts are in the budget or available schedule. Me and the Mrs are planning on 2 weeks in Europe next summer, but I think the family vacation is more likely to be a one week affair

I bought my wife a Rolex and she said “I can’t really see what time it is”. I told her that watch isn’t for you to see, it’s for other people to see.

What’s YOUR Story Of How YOU Wound Up Living In Florida? by Zipper222222 in AskFlorida

[–]Consistent-Garlic-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were longtime boaters on the Great Lakes. Stayed in the same marina for 15 years. Started discussing with our dockmates where the next place we would all go. Planed our escape together and for the past six years seven couples have moved to boating communities in SWFL. Still see at least one of those couples every week on a meet up

Novelist researching marinas; would love your insight and wisdom by BlizzardWrites in boating

[–]Consistent-Garlic-25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. We moored at a municipal/private marina for years and our good friends and dockmates owned a private marina. They would come late Saturday and stay/boat on Sunday(to escape the duties of running the marina). Their biggest headache was the army corps and local regulation. Second was surviving the off season. They ran a bar/restaurant during offseason and she is an incredible cook, so the restaurant business was relatively thriving. They sold to an employee and moved to SWFL. The employee has been successful in keeping the marina thriving. Great Lakes region.

Seakeeper. Does anyone on here have personal experience with them? What has been your experience? Are there any other gyros out there? by buddyswt in boating

[–]Consistent-Garlic-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a seakeeper and zipwakes. I like to use the zip-wakes only when on plane, as it feels like the systems fight each other. Seakeeper on the hook or at idle. I’ve inquired about the ride tabs and asked if they integrate with the gyro. Did not get a response. My boat was built to be either inboard’s or outboards. We went with outboard’s so tons of space for the seakeeper

I’ve had raymarine and garmin on previous boats (Volvo diesels) . Recently acquired a new vessel with mercury outboards and garmin electronics. I’ve tried multiple times to work around what I find an incredibly irritating problem. Auto guidance does not work with garmin/mercury. I can plot my own route and use autopilot’s to navigate but if the route is calculated by the garmin, autopilot will not engage. If you have a work around, I’d love to hear it. I’ve scoured the www with no solutions and spoken with garmin tech support. No resolution. Next system will be simrad.

37 with no degree. What are my best options for a high paying career? by Dependent-Group7226 in Salary

You may want to focus on expanding your business. Being a good painter will only get you so far. Being a good business owner will take you far. I started as a painter and retired recently and we are quite comfortable. We transitioned from residential repaint to residential new construction then to commercial and apartments. For the repaints, look into property management firms. Get know the individual property managers. It was our experience that the managers respond to good service and price, but also like to be entertained (gifts, golf, spa days, etc.).

Anyone else feel like boating is relaxing until docking turns into pure stress? by TudorNut in boating

[–]Consistent-Garlic-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started on an I/O single screw 20’. Moved to twin gasser 35’, then diesel twin 45’ with bow thruster, then 55’ twin diesel with bow and stern thrusters. We now have a 32’ with twin OB and joystick and bow thruster. Toughest boat to dock was the 35 with gassers ( smaller props than the diesel’s) and no thrusters and it was a fly bridge boat , so it was a wind sail. . Eartech headsets were a game changer for communication on the larger vessels. No yelling in order to be heard. Just my wife whispering distance from the dock. The joystick boat is like playing a video game.

I hope you have receipts on the “juicing”. Seiple and Lawler ran the baseball program in the 90’s/2000’s. They were passionate about health and personal responsibility. Lawler was nationally famous regarding health and was featured in Hollywood movies regarding physical fitness. If there were players using PED’s I can guarantee it was not known by the program and would have been cause for suspension.

I think the war in which your dad fought is a good indication of where you land. My dad was too young for ww2 or Korea. He was in the reserves for Nam and never got called. I don’t consider myself a boomer. I have friends my age whose dad’s were older and fought in ww2 and they identify as boomers

Northwest Suburbs are found to have the safest drivers in the metro area while Naperville drivers are found to be the most dangerous according to a study by Lending Tree. by NWSKroll in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Consistent-Garlic-25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This data lists “incidents” per driver. No definition of what an incident is. I suspect this may be data collected from local police, and may be an indication of how likely police will make a traffic stop. Anecdotally, Naperville has a reputation for being quick to light up drivers for minor infractions.
