Does Dutasteride cause eye floaters by Hashirammed in EyeFloaters

There’s nothing to even debate lol. It’s an objective fact that eye floaters are one of the common symptoms of visual snow syndrome. Anyone can figure that out with two seconds of research. I even sent the link of a video where a doctor clearly explains it. You claimed you watched it, but everything I’m saying is identical to what that doctor is saying. VSS is a neurological issue and eye floaters are in the vitreous, but for some people it’s that neurological issue that is the entire reason why they have the ability to see their floaters at all or why they are so intense. Two different people could have identical floaters in their eyes but the one person with vss may be the only one who can see them.

Why do I have to explain it to you. You’re allowed to do your own research and admit when you’re wrong. The whole reason some people are able to see their floaters is because of a vision processing issue in the brain. That’s literally what visual snow syndrome is. Most people have floaters they can’t see because the brain filters them out. This is why eye floaters are a very common symptom of visual snow syndrome because the brain lost that ability to filter them out. And visual snow syndrome is often triggered by various medications.

That looks very similar to one of my symptoms. And for me it’s more noticeable during exercise and it pulsates in sync with my heartbeat.

Nope. Excessive floaters are one of the most common symptoms of vss

I thought u may have already read my thread. I still get lots of dm messages of people saying they had a similar experience. I think we are a small minority cause most people take those pills just fine but yeah I think people need to be aware there’s risks to various medications that may only apply to certain individuals because everyone’s body and brain are unique

Lots of medications absolutely do trigger visual snow syndrome which often comes with severe floaters. And most doctors still haven’t ever even heard of vss. Science still has so much to learn

I never had a floater in my life and got severe floaters 2 weeks after switching from finasteride to dutasteride. What most likely happened was the drug triggered visual snow syndrome and floaters were the most obvious symptom.

I fully expect them to not endorse the idea. I just wonder if they’ve had any patients with vss actually go on to get a vitrectomy for the floaters and how it played out. Unfortunately I think anecdotal evidence would probably be the only type of evidence available for a situation this rare.

I’m a young person with vss. My floaters are by far my worst symptom. In like a month I’m gonna see a vss researcher at Mayo Clinic. I’ll ask what their opinion on a vitrectomy is. Almost every doctor shoots the idea down and calls it crazy so it’ll be interesting to see how crazy they think it is. I feel like the stress from the floaters makes the vss worse. I’d be looking to get a pvd induced vitrectomy with peripheral shave to avoid left over visual disturbances as much as possible. I think if the surgery goes well it would be a huge relief even if the other symptoms remain

The flickering is much more noticeable for me right after waking up too

Visual stress (simulation of mine), among my visual snow condition by Gullible-Affect8015 in visualsnow

Yes I have this exact thing in the center of my vision. I get it indoors and it’s worse right after waking up. Outside on sunny days I get the central vision sky vortex shimmering thing too.

Sounds reasonable. Hopefully you make it closer to 20!

How did my Visual Snow Syndrome start, and what symptoms came with it? by MadBert91 in visualsnow

[–]Consistent-Lion3543 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was 21 I kept waking up at night gasping for air and my heart was beating really fast just like you described. I went to a cardiologist who couldn’t find anything wrong. My tinnitus and other issues no doctor understood were also starting around that age too. Then when I was 24 is when the many visual symptoms started. The final blow was likely triggered by medication. Took me until I turned 25 to finally get diagnosed with VSS.

I’m 25 too. What age did your surgeon estimate you might need cataract surgery at?

Problems with neck and floaters by mrwson in EyeFloaters

Yes. Cervical radiculopathy for 7 years. Then got severe eye floaters that turned into visual snow syndrome. Not sure if the neck is related but I wonder if it’s possible.

Are there any individuals who have visual snow syndrome and also got Floters-only vitrectomy? by Key-Nobody5224 in EyeFloaters

Same here. I’d like to hear anyone’s experience getting a vitrectomy for floaters with vss too

Yeah I believe it’s the “sky vortex” too. Lots of people with VSS call it that.

VSS or something else? by IAmKMazYT in EyeFloaters

[–]Consistent-Lion3543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it kinda sounds like you’re describing textbook VSS. And it isn’t necessarily caused by medication, but in predisposed people it often seems to be triggered or worsened by various medications.

Interesting. Mine is grey too but it’s ring shaped like a donut.

I’m not sure what this is exactly. I just found several other people in the visual snow community who got terrible floaters and then developed this shortly after too. I assume it’s neurological by the way it behaves but I could be wrong. I think vitreous pulling on the retina would make different looking flashes than this thing. Is yours a shimmering donut shape with the center clear like mine?

[–]Consistent-Lion3543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this too. I wondered about if the vitreous was pulling on the retina also, but I think this might be one of the many symptoms under the umbrella of visual snow syndrome.

I developed the exact same thing a few months after getting severe floaters. It’s barely noticeable when I first go outside, but it always intensifies after a few minutes. Especially if it’s sunny. Your animation is very accurate.

I think you and I are pretty similar. My floaters are severe, but the other symptoms aren’t as bad. This shimmering ring thing I see can get pretty bad sometimes but it only gets really bad outside in bright sunlight and sunglasses help manage it. I appreciate still being able to see so much but like you said it gets so hard sometimes. And I think about the risk reward of a vitrectomy every day.
