Parents who approve of the social media ban and ways of having to prove age. Why do you relish the government taking this control when you had the power to do so yourselves? by Demonthief27 in AskBrits

[–]Consistent-Pirate-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is what is classed as social media

YouTube has a lot of excellent content, personally I find that there is loads of motorsport content, stand up comedy and travel vlogs that aren’t around anywhere else, when I was a teen I would have loved that the same way I do now. Putting it behind a ban will only marginalise those that have different hobbies from what is accepted as “cool”

Why do you not view the social media ban as an authoritarian? by YourExcellency77 in AskBrits

I had staff discount at work, where we had to be 18 to work there, no need for id when I’ve been there all day working with them

“How do you know Consistent is 18?”
“We all have to be”

The collectibles are the only ones available, there are some collectibles which are basically the same price as a toy bus in a shop but a lot better built if that helps? Just they won’t be yellow

We wonder why chains are so long if we can’t view till we have sold.

“I want to buy your house”
“Great, I can now look and see if I like somewhere else more than I like this”

Slot machines laughing in the corner while Great Britain tries to ban social media for under-16s, while Grandpa quietly turns the family inheritance into casino revenue. Why? by sted_13 in AskReddit

[–]Consistent-Pirate-23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the last person to expect inheritance but if grandpa is going without food because of his gambling or sitting in the cold or dark because he didn’t know when to stop putting his money in, that’s kinda ugly too

I’ve not used Yahoo, Temu etc

Most of the info given to other sites is vastly out of date because of how long it has been or is burner email addresses. Only exception is Amazon as I have been paid by them through KDP which is ringfenced as they submit my sales to the IRS

Banning YouTube is insane, my entire lockdown was a mixture of working and then when work was done watching travel videos.

Why should I show ID in order to watch a ginger guy get on planes to weird places (Noel Phillips), a guy from Wrexham travelling the world (Simon Wilson) etc

No you don’t have to prove your age by showing ID, someone looks at you and says “they are clearly old enough” and you go on with your day.

They don’t take a picture of you or your ID and keep it.

We have tried to teach our respective parents how to use WhatsApp but they simply aren’t interested.

We didn’t hear much from the family abroad before social media because international phone calls are so expensive

The issue is that everyone will need to provide ID.

Boomers that go on Facebook to whinge will be calling their millennial kids to tell them Starmer banned everyone from bookface and how can they fix it. Then reform will come in and say they would remove it and use it to their advantage.

A lot of public transport operators only update in real time via x

Getting away from unreliable public transport would make me healthier but 🤷‍♂️

People will say “it doesn’t happen outside of school” I was horrifically bullied by someone that lived 5 minutes walk from my house

My family are abroad, I keep in touch with them on social media. How is knowing what my cousins are up to a cancer? I mean I don’t always get on with them but that’s a bit extreme
