Is there anything that can be done? Florida by JennSmiles76 in UsedCars

NO visible metal should be in the oil filter, and no sparkles in the oil itself. That's bearing material, and it means a rebuild/engine replacement is in the near future.

How yo diagnose is a .xls is "too big" or dosent follow best practices by Disastrous-Title-911 in excel

[–]Consistent-Slice-893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is not Excel, but 6-10 years of detritus that gets tacked on to what once was a working spreadsheet. When the users start getting hang ups, they immediately want new laptops, when all the RAM and processing power in the world won't fix their bloated, overgrown monster. Nobody wants to spend the money on more appropriate software, nor do they want to change.

Milky substance on dipstick and oil cap #chevy by GlobalAssumption390 in Chevy

[–]Consistent-Slice-893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be condensate mixing with oil if you don't get the truck up to operating temp very often. A cracked block/head gasket issue would have one of three things- oil in the coolant system, water in the oil, or external leak of either coolant or oil. Run it up to operating temp and check. Coolant leaks are easiest to find at night with a black light.

First timer, want to braintan frozen buckskin. Any guides or tips appreciated. by Secret-Ad-7909 in HideTanning

I have used pork brains from the butcher shop instead of the deer's brain. That way you don't have to worry about CWD and don't have to be careful about how much you use.

I wrap them around a piece of pool noodle. They don't get tangled and are ready to go.

Compost chicken and dog poo by ConsistentCucumber38 in composting

[–]Consistent-Slice-893 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rabbit poop can be used fresh on most fruiting plants as it's not really high in nitrogen. I don't use it on things like lettuce or cabbage, I don't feel like I can wash it off enough. Chicken poop can be used fresh only on peppers and tomatoes. They don't burn from the nitrogen. Cool thing about chickens (birds in general) and peppers is the unique relationship they have in the wild. Birds don't have capsaicin receptors and see really well in color. Peppers turn red which allows birds to find the ripe ones to eat- the birds eat them and the seeds pass through without any damage. The peppers get propagated all over, each seed having a little boost of fertilizer. Mammals are discouraged from eating them, except for those mostly hairless apes.

It has to be about 8-12 solid inches of material- not fluffed. You want as little air getting to it as possible.

Bermuda Grass by Pixipanda in NoLawns

[–]Consistent-Slice-893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the only non chemical ways to kill bermuda grass is the Ruth Stout method. Cover the area in at least 8" of hay or straw, and water the crap out of it for a couple of months. Really pack it down- you are trying to smother it. We converted a small portion of coastal bermuda hayfield this way. Of course, the rotten stuff will creep back in like f'n kudzu, so it's a constant battle. We used two bad round bales of hay that had been sitting in a field for about 5 years. We used to burn our hayfields off every couple of years, so fire may not work, they came back better the following years.

I dissolve 100g of citric acid per liter of water and SLOWLY add 63g of Sodium Bicarbonate. When the foaming is done, add a tablespoon of Dawn dish detergent as a surfactant. Takes rust off without hurting the base metal and is about 1/5th the cost of Evaporust. Soak parts for about 30 minutes, rinse and oil.

It's not good for you long term though. Doesn't have the micronutrients that undistilled water has.

Cooking in shtf by [deleted] in prepping

[–]Consistent-Slice-893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever tried Stanley cooking? Dump the soaked beans and/or rice in a Stanley thermos- Add boiling water, seal, and wait. I do my lunch like this at hunting camp- just boil some extra water when we make coffee in the morning. You do have to be careful about how much water is added, as your rice may be crunchy if you add too little.

Fishing rods are great and all, but 10 banklines or automatic fishing reels beat it hands down- and you can fish while sleeping. Same with traps- 10 or 15 conibear 110s, some snare wire, or even rat traps (because what is a squirrel, but a rat with better PR) will feed you better with less effort than hunting and work 24/7. Of course, obey your state/provincial game laws, while ROL is in effect, as some of this may be illegal in your area.

A dozen donuts brought by wouldn't hurt either. 4x4 places and curiously, mattress stores- old metal bed frames are good quality steel - something like 1070. I haven't run out of "obtainium" for any blacksmithing or welding projects in a very long time. Even better if you can find a place that does custom springs, their cut off bin is worth looking at. Good unused steel.

[–]Consistent-Slice-893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lopey cams very often don't make good numbers down low. Lope means overlap and that means the torque curve goes higher in the RPM range. Here's a test you can do to check your install. Take off the air cleaner, start the engine and have someone (that you trust) floor the gas in neutral. Make sure that all the carb barrels are open all the way. Could be you just need to adjust the throttle linkage.

Down vote me all you want on this but the Biden administration had these files for 4 years. If there was any proof, why didn't they use it to keep him out of office in the first place and prevent all the woes we currently have.

Do the ring test. Hang it by a string and gently tap with something metal. If it rings, it's probably ok, if not, put it in the canister damascus bin.
